It is for performance and *durability* not necessarily reliability. Reliability is still a wild card. Lots of SSD's have premature failure due to the controller. Everyone is paranoid about the limited writes on an SSD, but in reality that is the least of the worries. The controller is likely to go before the actual NAND cells.
And battery life with a low power laptop/netbook can be improved decently with an SSD. If you go to ssdreview.com you can compare all sorts of actual tested characteristics of SSD's including power consumption. I can tell you Intel and Crucial and Samsung have much less power consumption than an HDD.

hmm guys, I'm not sure if this is typo or not but the w110er on prostar stated that it is with the GT 650 GDDR5 1GB...
https://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?...id=20074746&ramid=80117656&batteryid=10056810
And also, can anyone tell me what SATA does the laptop support up to? -
It is true i called prostar and asked them if the clevo w110er they had was a gt 650m 1gig gddr5 they said yes.
-
Then they are mistaken. It's definitely DDR3.
-
Dear Mr. Eddy,
Thank you for your inquiry. If you place the order today it will still take us about 4-5 business day to built and test the unit for you, therefore we are looking at the eta. ship out date of 4/30 or 5/1. The W110ER has the GDDR5. Thank you again, please let us know if we can be of anymore assist.
Have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
Lilian Hsiao

Whatever they want to say, fine, but it's not true. Just trying to prevent disappointment.

Is Mythlogic the only reseller offering the matte screen option?
-
-
I will keep checking thanks for the heads up HTWingNut man i hope your wrong i really want this laptop,i really do not want to have to order the m14x r2 .
-
and they also list the options for internal optical drive in the config page so it's kinda weird lol
-
LaptopUserExtreme Notebook Consultant
Yeah, how is it possible to have an internal optical drive? I don't even see space for a drive like that in the pictures posted by Prema:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ager-np6110-owners-lounge-13.html#post8455036
i.e. specifically this pic:
Isn't that the space for the HDD? -
Here's some confirmation of DDR3: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ries-w110er-w150er-w170er-37.html#post8435494
I don't know what people expect from an 11.6" though. -
no, what I tried to say is that the website is so broken ~.~ so many misleading info
-
Yeah I figured. Good catch though. I'd trust LPC-Digital, Mythlogic, and XoticPC over the other place. They get the machines from the same manufacturer.

I have no doubt they're good, but that doesn't mean they can't or don't make a mistake.
-
Very true, thats why i called them and emailed them to make sure it was not a typo cause originally they had it listed as gddr3 on the main page and when you add to cart it said gddr5,20 minutes after i got off the phone with them the main page was changed to gddr5.
-
Its gddr3Attached Files:

@mythlogic, do you have these machines in stock? Possible to open up and get the part number off the video RAM chips?
I don't doubt it's DDR3, but it would be good confirmation nevertheless. Based on that image of the laptop, it looks like you should easily be able to read the chip.
---------
@Prema - see that HDD slot? Maybe a SATA to mSATA converter might be in order. Notice how it's right next to the CPU? Perhaps a few copper stick-on heatsinks on the CPU, cut a slot in the HDD wall and mount another laptop fan in that HDD space, blowing air directly over the CPU. Not much room for extra copper over the GPU though, but maybe something. Copper shims on the GPU vRAM too. I'm sure there's four more video RAM chips on the other side of the motherboard, possibly no room for extra cooling there. I may end up buying another whole chassis and heatpipe after I end up hacking up this bad boy, lol. -
To HTWingNut you sir are correct just got of the phone with them and told them i wanted to order one but need it to be sure that it was gddr5,he put me on hold 3 minutes later he apologized and said that it is 2gigs gddr3 and they will fix web page.
-
K4W2G1646C-HC11
Which is GDDR3 -
well, guess now I just wait for the intel i7 3612qm and order the laptop
-
-
I just put in an order for a w110er with a I5-3210m. Hope I wont regret it, but as far as CPUs goes I've always had the impression that the better i7 QMs have been much more thermally taxing.
I really really hope they manage to keep the heat and noise at a manageable level... -
Who knows how to open that bottom plastic cover? I mean, do you need some force or just a few screws to open it and thats it?
-
99% of the time there is some screwing involved, and that requires force.
Unless its like the HP DM1 and you just pry it open but I have never seen that in a CLEVO laptop. -
I as well ordered my W110ER from Mythlogic. I've asked them to expedite everything so I can get it as soon as I can.
. -
if it had a backlit keyboard I'd be all in on this thing
-
-
good news or bad news, the other laptop i was interested in, lenovo y480 does not come with the gt 650m, putting this on because some people here are just interested in sub 15inch gaming capable laptops...
There's still time for lenovo, hp, dell to get their stuff toghether and bring out gt 650m laptops though, but now it looks like ur going to get the best performance in the 11.6 inch form factor. -
Where did you get info that the Y480 doesn't get 650m? In their marketing it states 650m with 660m optional.

srry should have posted link, but yeah, only gt 640m and im suspecting some to be the LE version which they dont post.
hopefully, this is just for now, and they come out with a better version later on, -

dont want to sound like a moron or anything. but if i just want a plain ol reg config of this laptop (meaning no matte screen or other specialized conditions) why would i order from anyplace other than the sagernotebooks website?
-
I have found them to be priced higher than most other resellers on a lot of models.
-
That is not really surprising.
You want a reseller network.
And dealing with resellers is usually less complicated, than dealing with end customers. So if I compete with my resellers on low price levels - where is the point for a reseller to sell my product? -
-
I found that sort of strange too, probably just waiting "official" luanch date.
I'm waiting until monday and see what IVB options are available. -
You'll find everything you need. -
It's not on malibal's site yet... probably waiting for Sager's announcement before posting anything
-
You should go Mythlogic, I've pre-ordered from them, fantastic service.
. -
I'm still leaning more towards XoticPC as I believe I can get a better price from them... I have to say though, that I am very impressed with how Mythlogic has conducted themselves on this board and how responsive they have been... kudos Myth
-
I've also been very impressed with Myth's responses here. The only thing stopping me from shopping there is the price compared to other resellers
I'm also curious about fan noise (especially when just browsing internet and stuff since I'd want to bring it to class) and speaker quality. I know you can't expect too much from such small speakers, but it would still be good to know. -
-
found something a little odd. the i7 2640 is more expensive than the 2740 and was wondering what was up with that?
to get a i7 with this is a +200 dollars on xoticpc, but, to upgrade the 14 inch 2240 to an i7 2740, its only a +100. i dont get it -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
If so its because the i7 2640M is a more expensive CPU then the i7 2670QM. While the 2670QM is a quad core you, the clock speeds are a bit lower. The i7 2640M is 2.8-3.5Ghz vs the 2670QM 2.2-3.1Ghz.
