Good point. Hybrid Graphics with reboot is a better solution in my opinion.

From the specs and all, it's bit slimmer, bit lighter, thunderbolt port, different aesthetics etc.
Since it is replacing P67x model, so I guess it might be better

I am waiting for mine to arrive

You can actually, the Clevo P series also had them both. You go in BIOS and you select if you want GSync or Optimus. I don;'t know any other laptops that have both.

Looks much slimmer and sexier than the older bulky Clevo cases!

Ahh I see, since it's slimmer but does that mean heat management would be better on the bulkier chassis? As they both do have 1070 which can get hot

frankly i hope that this newer (thinner) PAxx series does not cause the latest P6xx to be discontinued or eliminated from the current Clevo lineup. the current P6xx series is quite solid (the addition of TB3 port would be nice) and runs very well, and also handles heat very well too. while i can appreciated the innovative design that goes into making a thinner lighter chassis capable of housing very powerful graphics cards, that does not always translate to a more efficient overall design as far as optimal heat dissipation and some other practical & important laptop design aspects are concerned.

It's actually been confirmed that the current P6xx series will be eventually dropped and the PAxx series is kind of replacing them.

thanks much for that info, truly appreciated. would you possibly happen to have any sense of a general timeline as far as when that might happen ? i have noticed in the past that this kind of thing usually happens quite suddenly and unexpectedly with Clevo, all of a sudden a specific model will no longer be available thru U.S. resellers. any info appreciated, thanks again !

Probably the P6xx series will stop once the new Intel CPUs make their way into Clevo laptops, the Intel 8700HQ series. Probably end of autumn/December.

Looks like a well designed thermal management system. Hopefully the Temps are decent. Kind of worried considering how thin the laptop is.

"Hello again! Under full load, this system was averaging approximately 79 to 85 C on the GPU, while the CPU retained a slightly cooler average at approximately 78 to 84 C. The battery life, on idle is just under 3 hours with full backlight settings on the screen and keyboard. " Prostar

Those CPU thermals are pretty nice, will bw better with undervolt and whatnot. Is that with a 7700HQ or 7820HK? Gpu may need a repaste or something to get a bit lower. Maybe even an agressive fan curve. Was the battery life test done with the MS Hybrid mode enabled in BIOS or just discrete mode? Thanks!

Those CPU scores seem good but the GPU is running to hot for my liking.

    Is this the stock paste?

As for the battery life test, I didn't get confirmation on whether it was on DGPU or IGPU

Those are pretty normal temperatures for a laptop GPU. Anything below 90C is generally okay. 95C+ is a sign that you need to repaste!

I honestly was comparing the GPU temp to another Laptop this size (or at least I think they are the same size).

From what I gathered so far, it looks like the MSI GE73vr Raider GPU is staying in the mid 60's, low 70's with stock paste.

Temps are okish, but depends on ambient temperature. I'm fairly certain the battery test was done on the non-Optimus enabled version. That's how much I estimated it would last on dGPU.

It's available as the Sager NP8372 at the moment. https://www.sagernotebook.com/Notebook-NP8372.html . It's hard to recommend this over something or vice-versa as of right now because it is so new that I don't know of anyone who actually has one.

The GE series is MSI's value series where as the NP8372 is one of our premium finish series I will say at least ;)

What are the performance gains in terms of FPS in games, comparing the 7700hq and the 7820hk at stock speeds and I guess with minimal OCin'?

I'm really just curious because and comparing the GT Dominator to the GE Raider, I cannot come to the same conclusion that the GE series is the value series for MSI. I believe the GP has always been the value series and the GE, the mid range. From what I've been told, MSI is moving away from the value/high end model and the new model will be something along the lines of (GT = Full Desktop Replacement, GE = mid weight and GS = thin and light.)

They will be discontinuing the Apache and Dominator along with a slew of other gaming based notebooks. The Titan will be the only desktop replacement model and the Raider will be the only mid weight model. They will have two light and thin models to choose from. One being a regular GPU and the other being a Max-Q.

I think MSI is just trying to rebrand its notbooks while gearing up for the holidays moving into next year. They started it by making the Dominator irrelevant once the Raider was released. If you look at the models side by side, the Raider as the same display and in some cases, an even better display. The Raider has the upgraded thermal design system (cooler boost 5) while the Dominator is still stuck on CB4. The speakers included on the Raider are better than the Dominator and possibly the best on any laptop even close to its size. Lastly, the Raider got the upgraded keyboard with per key RGB. A feature usually saved for the higher end stuff.

My final thoughts. Just comparing the Raider against the Dominator, if I didn't know what GE and GT stood for, I would assume the Raider was the higher end notebook.

I mean, someone please tell me if I'm out of line on this. I've gathered this information from two separate resellers and I've only done this research because I'm anal about notebook purchases that I'm giving for gifts.

If you're comparing the PA70HS-G to the GE73VR then current offerings are pretty similar, with slight differences in specs. You'll have to decide what's more important to you. The Clevo model has thunderbolt and G-Sync, the MSI model has per-key RGB, a 120Hz panel, and probably better speakers.

The Clevo model will have better options for the panel and CPU coming out in a month or so (from what I've read).

Im just going to wait on thermal reviews before I do anything. When it comes to what I look for in a portable notebook....... Cooling > Everything else.

HIDevolution has the new PA71HS-G 17.3, any ideas on when an 120hz panel will be available as well. Also is there a pic/image of the cooling system inside the laptop?

Looking at this as my next system from a Lenovo y50

Why is there so much tape on the heat sinks? Is it to hold it down, but shouldn't the screws do that?

Is it worth it to get this laptop with the i7-7820hk keeping in mind how thin it is?

Would there a noticeable difference of FPS in games between the 7820hk @ 3.8ghz versus the 7700hq @ 3.4ghz?

That's debatable. For normal Usage and whatnot, the difference is negligible. However, given good conditions (such as good paste, undervolt, etc.) A nice overclock on all cores could be achieved. This could make this laptop last a bit longer in to the future as a viable option. As for FPS, no real gains most likely.
*Edit: Even though there are negligible, if any gains for gaming, the 7820hk does better overall for other tasks, even at stock clocks. I would refer to this video if you wanna know more.

I've seen some comparison in topic whether the mobile CPU bottlenecks GPU in games.

The result was that in cpu demanding games (like PUBG) even an i7-7820HK (not-OC) can bottleneck 1070.
However, in 95% of the games, the fps difference between top HQ, HK and K are negligible.

From what I could match, the gain's from using the 7820hk OC'd over the 7700hq was anywhere between 1 - 7 FPS in games.
