I dont know if this review was already posted: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Guru-Fire-KS-Clevo-P950HP6-Laptop-Review.257730.0.html
But the verdict is kind of crushing. Not only the fan problems but also throttling.
Can anybody confirm this throttling at whitcher 3 after one hour?
I'm really interested in this laptop but I already got an throttling one here...
I just checked the english version of the article, it misses an update:
They got a new BIOS / EC (08/09 instead of 07/08). The fans get better, max idle from 44db down to 37db. But still throttling and no better score.
-
I also saw that review and it out me off a bit. Which is a shame as it seems like such a cool machine. I second that. Can anyone confirm these heat problems?
-
What I find strange is heat problems appearing in the 1060 model and not in the 1070 MQ one. Maybe Eurocom sent their Q5 with upgraded thermal paste or something? Seems odd, though...

Larger cores at the same power are easier to cool.
-
Fair enough. But hgwingnut's review of the p950hp6 showed no heat problems at all. The notebookcheck review showed crazy heat problems. The other reviews on YouTube (except one) and on other sites I've read found no heat problems.
Could it be something wrong with the model tested by notebookcheck? Is that too optimistic?
The best people to ask might be the resellers as presumably they do benchmarking before sending out the machine. Do you guys know if benchmarking results in this kind of thermal throttling?
Thanks! -

Usually it's worth investigating the one abnormal result in a trend.
-
But maybe it's 80 to 20 on the reviews. So it's kind of hard to easily isolate those cases. It's worth noting that there are people who test dozens of these machines, namely the sellers. I don't suppose they know anything about temperatures and throttling?
-
I recently ordered this machine from a dutch reseller and so far I'm happy with it.
The fans were pretty loud and erratic when idling. After I reinstalled control center however, its completely silent during browsing or light use. I undervolted to -100mv and put the profile on quiet with auto fans. The cpu fan still spins up on startup sometimes but it only lasts a couple of seconds and happens rarely. It gets loud under heavy load but its a thin machine so.. Havent noticed any serious throttling. BIOS/EC is 07/08 with latest control center from the clevo site.
Other than that, its a fast and sturdy machine. No negative points really.Ramsey66 likes this. -

I really hope that the one sample notebook from Guru is somehow faulty.
For instance i dont think that the differences between the eurocom eq5 and this one should bei that dramatic. -
Did my reseller not have the current BIOS / EC? -

Got help from HIDevolution tech support (phenomenal tech support!), and successfully got my Bios updated to 1.05.07.

I have P950HR and noticed a problem with USB Type-C ports. I tried using my MiniPro RAID V3 dual disk enclosure connected to Type-C port but experienced device resets and IO retries (found them in Event Viewer in System Windows Logs). It's basically unusable. The same device works just fine connected to Type-A USB port of P950HR. Problem is present on Ubuntu Linux and Windows 10. I did some research and found that in P950HR (and probably in P950HP6 too) Type-C ports have separate Asmedia controller chip handling them, probably something is wrong with it. Did anyone else notice this problem? Also if you have P950HP6 or P950HR and some USB Type-C mass storage device laying around could you please check if it works without problems? I wonder if it's a general problem or just present in this particular machine.

Have you tested the cable with another device?

For the people with the updated BIOS: has it made any significant difference to the fan noise? Just wondering whether it's worth chasing my reseller for an updated BIOS.

How difficult is it to install a new panel on the p950hp6?
Was looking at getting one through Hidevolution but the one on gentech I speced out with a 250GB SSD, 2TB HDD, and 16GB ram for around $1500 while the same speced one on HID (with a 120hz panel) is almost $1900.Last edited: Oct 25, 2017 -

Not too difficult if you know what you are doing, you need to unsnap the bezel from the inside edge using a soft tool ideally.

So if you buy it now will it have the new BIOS update or do you have to ask for it?

I'm very interested in this pc , but since i'm not going to use it for gaming, i'm more interested in color accuracy, so the 120hz tn panel (AUO B156HTN05.2) doesn't do it for me. Is the LG Philips LP156WF6 (LGD046F) IPS panel better?
Is there anything similar to this from asus or lenovo? -
Just to let everyone know regarding my USB Type-C problems with P950HR - on the fifth USB cable that I tried finally everything works without problems (copied a few terabytes of data from MiniPro RAID V3 with no errors). It's a cable that came with Samsung Portable SSD T5. This SSD also works just fine with P950HR.

Apparently there's another new BIOS update 1.08? Anyone have more information on that front? I had 1.07 flashed to about a week ago.
-
-
Looking for a new laptop and this one is recommended to me. Curious about the fan noise as well.
-
There is a new bios update that was just released, 1.08. I recently updated to 1.07 so I will have to update it again and tell you all my thoughts afterwards.
-
Any updates? The fan noise is the only thing that's holding me back from considering this laptop.
-
-
There is also available new EC ver. 1.05.09, I will flash later today new Bios and EC
-
-
I can't see much difference comparing to .08 version. for me laptop is not noisy, according to dimensions, especially height. With this kind of hardware CPU and GPU, and less than 20mm height you have to be prepared for fan noise, without checking on your own, you didn't know it is noisy or not, each one of us have different hearing
-
Is the fan running even doing minor tasks? It seemed like that was a comment of earlier posts
-
Today I will adjust default values on Control Center and I will check. -
-
OK guys, I've checked, CPU fan is working all the time with default Control Center adjustments, and it's a little noisy, similar to my previous Acer VN7-593G, so I'm going back to my Control Center settings

Just to make this clear, BIOS updates do nothing for the fan control, it´s the EC Firmware that matters, the latest is the 09.
This unit with latest EC and a good undervolt actually seems nice.
We also disabled the BIOS XTU Service which seems to help.sinfolmatt likes this. -

Hi all, I recently purchased the P957HR from Eurocomm (BIOS 1.05.04). I just wanted to chime in on fan noise and temperatures after some optimization:
- i7-7700HQ is undervolted by -0.110V using Throttlestop
- 1070 Max-Q is overclocked by 200 mHz using MSI afterburner
- Fan for graphics card is set to turn on at 60 degrees Celsius and turn off at 50 degrees in Clevo's Control Centre
- Hard drive removed and running on just an SSD
The most stressful scenario I regularly put my laptop under is Witcher 3 with all settings maxed. GPU fans turn on and is quite loud, but reasonable. CPU temperatures varies; averages in the mid 60s for the majority of the time and maxes at the mid 70s for very short periods of time. GPU temperatures is consistent at 78-79 degrees. FPS ranges from low 50's to high 50's with an average of around 56. I'm thinking about repasting, and will see how that changes things.
Hope this helps!anytimer, BioHazard17, Shadow Cloud and 1 other person like this. -
Hi everyone,
I posted this in my thread on what laptop should I buy but thought I would get the input from actual owners. I am leaning towards getting the P950 probably from HIDEvolution.
I wanted recommendations for upgrades. I am using this for work as an accountant and light gaming (LoL, WoW or newer games not needed max settings). I will try to undervolt, never done before.
Is the 1070 max-q worth the extra cost over the 1060? For games I don't think I will need it, main thought is managing temps, fan noise, and longevity of the laptop.
For RAM, 2x8gb or pay a little extra for 1x16 because it would be cheaper to add 1 stick than two if wanting to upgrade in the future?
Are thermal paste and pads upgrades worth it? $60 for best option form HID. Note I don't want to do it myself now or in the future if can be avoided.
No faulty pixel warranties worth it? I was leaning towards 30 days so at least I know it arrives in perfect condition but would like opinions.
Thanks, I hope this is ok to ask in this thread and forum. I though it made more sense to ask owners of the laptop I think I am buying. -
1070 doesn't seem necessary if you're a light gamer considering it will add to higher temps as oppose to the 1060.
