What's the difference between the TM and TM1? other than price? I saw both on hidevolution and the TM1 was more expensive for similar specs.

I do like that the Prema bios is standard though.

Whats up with that 4th cpu fan? anyone got this to work yet. I like to lower my temps im getting 90C with my 1080sli in vapor. I got Gelid on the card and i have ensured they are making contact. The Fans never hit max. They stay at about 80 but it sounds like jet pulling off. I was thinking about clamp fans but cant find any that are big to fit. I saw someone water cool it but im not that skilled. CPU hits 60c it was delidded and has liquid metal. Any suggestions. I do play on ultra.

So I finally got the laptop. Not fully enjoying the laptop yet. I bought the laptop directly from HIDevolution as if I were an american citizen. HIDevolution shipped the laptop to Miami where a Chilean delivery service shipped the laptop to Chile to me.

I recieved the laptop, installed the O.S. and the first thing I noticed was the awful screen, banding everywhere, the worst bleeding I ever saw in a LCD screen. I'm not sure how Clevo give this screen even as an option, is a total shame excuse of a screen. And I was like, "hell if this screen is bad, the B173QTN01.0 most be even a worst thing". The I excecuted HWinfo64 and surprise surprice I got the wrong screen:

I ordered the B173QTN01.4 and got the B173QTN01.0. This is maybe my fault because initially my order was for the B173QTN01.0, then I changed my mind and asked for the B173QTN01.4, and I was charged for the B173QTN01.4 screen by the way.

Then the battery. as if the screen stuff wasn't enough the battery won't charge to the 100% it gets stuck at a 89% level. Then again the battery isn't new, it has near a 3% of wear level, and probably some damaged cells and that's why it can't get full charge:

Now to make things even better, Synaptics drivers don't work as expected, the notification icon is missing and can't get access to advanced properties.

In case you ask, of course I didn't got the global warranty from HIDevolution so RMA is not an option. So I have to burn some extra cash now buying a new screen and a new battery. So here are my questions:

    1. What's the part number for the 1080p 144Hz IPS and where to buy it? (yeah, and changed my mind again, 3K sucks on a 17 inch screen)
    2. What's the part number for the battery and where to buy from?

Why can't you just return it and order another one?

Or, ask HID directly for help given the situation, maybe add on the Global Warranty as an incentive for them to handle the rest of the problems.

If they can't / won't do this, then a simple rejection based on the wrong screen and bad battery should be reason enough to justify the return.

Order mistakes and broken / failing components out of the box negate return / restocking fee's at most places - you only get charged restocking if the laptop is otherwise working but unexpectedly unacceptable for your own needs.

Already payed $500 in taxes plus shipping and waited around 1 month for my laptop to get build. If I was in USA I'd returned the laptop in a heart beat.

Hmmm, well that's too bad. How handy are you with pulling apart laptops? Maybe HID can send you parts?

HID is experienced with such things as shipping for repair internationally, so they know what can be done to avoid further charges between customs and you, I assume.

HID is easy to work with, best to contact them directly and work it out with them. :)

In theory, if I ship the laptop back to HID for repair I have to fill a form in customs and say the laptop would be out for repair. Then when the laptop get back in theory I shouldn't get to pay taxes again. Now that's in perfect world in real life is not as smooth.

Shipping alone is around $120, plus the 2 weeks to get there, a couple of extra weeks for repair plus 2 weeks to the laptop to get back. We are talking of at least 5 to 6 weeks in best of cases. Seriously in this case I'm more in the boat of expend a few more hundred of dollars and waist less time. Plus, if HID failed the first time, how can I trust they won't fail again?

Well I changed the screen and motherboard of my XPS M1530, changed the screen of my M17X R1, upgraded the two graphics cards of my AW 18. So I think I can handle taking apart this laptop aswell. I contacted HID and they want to talk to me over the phone. I don't have the time or I can't speak english anyway

For you perhaps, not for a lot of people going for this machine. It would be interesting to see an mxm to m.2 converter though. Most people won't be able to use the speed but there is always a niche.

tell me about it, i've been looking for this adapter for years. still havent found anything of yet to be able to use the untouched PCIE lanes in slave GPU slot.

x8 lanes, would be a nice additional for a lot of anything, storage wise.

just a question, do you know if laptop can only boot via primary GPU slot? or can it boot off slave GPU too like desktop. my old alienware with 2 GPUs installed without SLI cable, if primary GPU fail it will simply not use 2nd GPU to continue to work, no such option in bios too even if its unlocked. i dont see anything in clevo so im assuming not thought i'd ask.

No as all the outputs including internal are wired to the primary card. So kissing primary = system failure as far as the ECU is concerned.

    What is this 8086K?

Seems like a very slightly OC'd version of 8700K, but can't see any sesizable increase in performance...

maybe another extra binned cpu. time will tell from silicon lottery. 8700k top was 5.3ghz sample at like 1.437v as per their own test setup/conditions. as per SL june 17th is when they release info for 8086k, if even 1 sample does 5.4ghz then its just a tad better.

then theres 8 core possibly end of this year, so kinda no point.

Not really a marketing stunt...it is the new 'binned' by Intel CPU with Max Turbo Frequency of 5.0GHz. See https://ark.intel.com/products/148263/Intel-Core-i7-8086K-Processor-12M-Cache-up-to-5_00-GHz

SL is cherry picking from there, and will release their bin tiers on the 17th.

So, 5.0GHz instead of 4.7GHz stock Max Turbo Frequency, and overclockable from there. It will be interesting to see what SL gets out of them.

We are currently testing them, successfully, and will know in the next few days how far we can push the non-cherry picked pieces.

thing is intel could call them w/e they wanted to call them tho, i'll accept the fact that 8086k a higher binned once i see the sample in SL. i'd like to think its a higher binn with a 14nm+++ if possible but doubt it.

We are now offering the 8086K as a configurable option :)

The 8086K is simply a good binning for the 8700K at a much lower price than many places were charging for that. It's great for notebooks as it means lower voltages for the same frequency so much cooler temps/lower power draw. I'll be going from all day 4.7Ghz to all day 4.95Ghz.

not really fantastic - only one more time - manufacturers overclocked old ips up to 144hz, change firmware - and here you go - 144hz.
so if you use fantastic display - the best one from quality is 4k uhd by Clevo - this is really fantastic :) but only 60hz.

    I see

    Still doesn't feel very compelling

Also, the fact that it can go a little higher than 8700K doesn't mean it has more cores or a serious improvement in performance.

A delidded 8700K would beat a non delidded 8086 anyways, so it is not like they reduced the need to delid or anything...

For sure, I agree, the 4K display is the best look-wise, but I am using a 4K 43", without scaling, on a 17" you would need scaling with anything to be readable.

There are always things around the corner, on the other hand 6 cores is excellent for a lot of users, even with an 8 core 6 may still be advantageous.

Besides increased temps, I can't see any reason why you'd want to go for anything less than 8 cores if they'd exist, if you are a power user doing rendering and such.

Of course, if you're a very light user who only does gaming, then even 4 cores was plenty :)
