P650 and P670 are not gargantuan beasts from the early 2000s.
The profile, weight, and thickness is well within boundaries of slimmer system so you wont have any issues any thinner and your looking at extreme thermal problems and ultrabooks aka mostly overpriced toys.
Good luck!

That sounds a lot like you are in hybrid mode rather than discrete mode. Double check that that's not the case. And if it's not then reinstall nVidia Drivers making sure to select "clean install" when you do.

4TB on a laptop via SMR drives alone is delicious. Very worth it over a MBP especially factoring in uses for gaming and what not.
Not to mention the programs eat so much ram four slots is a godsend for expanding when needed.

Hey, folks!
I decided to give an update to my review on the P650RS-G and my impressions, after all the issues I found with power and voltage. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my notebook. The more I use it and the more I play games on it, my impressions get better.
As I said in a previous post, I found out that the power and voltage issues are, in fact, related to CPU bottlenecking. After testing over and over, I noticed that all the problems were happening in CPU-intensive games and that I should accept the performance of the 6700HQ is somewhat the same of a 6600K (although better in games that use multiple cores and threads more efficiently).
Playing heavier games in 60+ FPS, such as Witcher 3 and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is excellent in Highest/High settings in 1080p and many others, such as GTA V, Gears of War 4, Fallout 4, in Highest settings in downsampled 1440p is awesome and that is what I believe is the main objective of this notebook. Also, at least for now, G-Sync is not quite useful (for me at least), but I believe that, as games get more and more GPU demanding, it will be a must for those who own a 1070.roraiamfilho and Hanamichi23 like this. -

FWIW, MSHYBRID seems to work pretty well, but I am curious to see if I can unlock more of the 1070's potential in discrete mode. -

The impact of optimus is pretty low on the actual FPS, but you do get a lot more screen options in dedicated mode as the nvidia GPU is controlling the output in that case.

I guess with inspector I could still hack settings, though I would have to change manually for different games. -
Anyone tried the new bios that got uploaded a few days ago? https://www.mysn.de/driver/XMG/XMG_P507_P707/BIOS/

Hi,
First of all, I read a major part of the posts about P650RS
I just bought from PC Specialist (england reseller) a Defiance III 15" with GTX 1070 (Clevo P650RS) and I have some questions about something I do not understand well with this brand : BIOS, EC, vBIOS
I went through a lot of clevo reseller website in order to download new BIOS files. What I realise is there are a lot of BIOS files, always different from a reseller to another reseller. I mean, I went though XMG, Obsidian, PCW website (not an official french reseller) and they all have their own BIOS files. So, those are my questions :
1) Which BIOS version is the good one ? Which EC version ? Which vBIOS version if applicabe ?
2) I see there are some BIOS like 1.05.04 and some like 1.05.03TR. What are the differences ?
3) It seems that the method for flashing the BIOS can be different, depending on which BIOS file you choose. Is this normal ? What is the classic method to update the BIOS ?
4) I do not see any vBios files. Is it normal ?
5) Even if it is not an XMG laptop (it is an exemple), can I flash my laptop with their BIOS files ?
Thanks in advance and forgive all the text mistakes, I am french. And like a lot of french, I am not so good in englishhfaz63 likes this. -

@Meaker@Sager I've heard other opinions on this and I wanted to get yours. Should we be trying to use CCC (Clevo Control Center)? I am tempted to give it one more try since it does offer some useful functionality. I was able to backout the last time I installed it, so I figure I could (worst case) uninstall Intel XTU right right afterwords.
Or maybe in your opinion XTU should not cause problems for us? I didn't play with it much. I think I switched to performance mode in CCC and my system crashed while playing Witcher 3. I took this to be due to overheating and a bad fan profile. Any thoughts you have on this would be great.byunjoe likes this. -

Just in case someone knows: for those who took their p650rs' apart, have you tried replacing the thermal pads? If so, what the the size and thickness required for good coverage? Planning to replace the stock ones with fujipoly ones, for peace of mind

Clevo has updated their drivers again, at least for P65xRP6. Notably Nvidia driver to 369.56 and CCC to .98. Same crappy servers.
-
Intel 8260 is more stable. -
Guys, CCC does not destroy any fan tables. Either you have a working EC or not. Dont touch the latest XMG EC. It messes up the Fan profiles.
Right now there is no EC around that has perfect fan tables but the XMG EC in their Archive is ok for now.
Regarding CCC: install the latest Version, boot up in safe mode and delete the XTU Folder - done. Not because it ****s up your fans but because its bugged **** and not recommended for undervolting.
Use thottlestop for that.
Edit: and for everyone who is wondering about crashes. you might have done too much of undervolting. simple as that.TomJGX, byunjoe and FredSRichardson like this. -

It would be great if someone, who already has a P65XRS-G/RP6-G and already test several BIOS/EC, can post his best BIOS/EC files which work fine with all the P65RS-G/RP6-G laptop
I will thank him a lot. Even kiss him -
And also the tuto to update ?
Another question, when go to xmg download section, I see that the last BIOS update is 1.05.04. But I do not see any EC update inside
Do I have to use another file for EC update ? -
-
You dont need the XTU stuff that installs with CCC at all, thats why i wrote "boot up in safe mode and delete the XTU Folder"
also uninstall your manually installed XTU of course (First).
yes, throttlestop should show up in the notification area. just select the Options start with Windows and start minimized to not get bothered from it.
im still experimenting with it but i can undervolt even further, compared to XTU.FredSRichardson likes this. -

I've been following this thread since its inception, from my early interest in 650RS laptop to in-depth use, I would say that 650RS is a solid laptop. you will never get such specs for 1.5k. Everything is just flawless - performance-wise, built quality, everything, POWER is just amazing.
Finger print
Finger print scanner was a must for me, in my dv6-7000 I've had it since 2012 and cannot imagine entering passwords manually, here in 650rs works just fine (the only problem is poor windows UI (its absence) on my HP dv6 there was an app with all 10 fingers visualized and you could assign/enroll each finger and never get lost, here its only poor ADD another finger. THATs it=). there is a small annoying gap right above scanner and whenever you swipe, you leave your "fat and sweat". Tooth pick fixes that=)
Light bleed
I donno, you can only see it in a pitch black background, like stripes while watching the movie, if you are not watching movie but looking at those stripes, however you won't notice it while gaming, using windows, browsing the web etc. BTW, if someone is too worried. My wife's got Yoga 2 pro, ultra thin laptop, and its 3k IPS, and her light bleed is much worse than mine. she has small bleed all over the rectangular edge of the screen. I've got small bleed right bottom corner which dissapears when I stick my nail there and prying the frame a bit from the screen. so this problem is sooo minor that it shouldn't be your decision making point. I bet most laptops with IPS have some sort of yellow light bleed. screen is very beautiful though. coming from 720p TN=)
G-sync
Since G sync is bugged and just doesn't work out of the box, i don't want to waste time on that, for me MS hybrid mode is perfect, nvidia GPU is "sleeping" until u really need it, I like to watch movies on my bed and browse with no wires, thus battery life is important (sorry discrete mode). in terms of gaming everything just buttery smooth for my subjective "unprofessional" view. Coming from gt 650m 2gb, 40+ fps is just unbelievable. and any game
CONS
The only real CON, is the sound, again coming from Dv6 with Beats audio, I've had small sub-woofer in the bottom which made such a great difference for laptop audio, here you WON'T find ANY Bass. but on the other side - headphones audio is rich and very competitive.
If you have any further questions I'm happy to answer.
Windows 10
As for people may be wondering in terms of windows 10, I got my laptop with no windows, but ensured that I've linked my windows 10 copy with my MS account. and took picture of windows 7 key from my HP dv6. and just logged in with my MS account with digital serial of windows and then entered my win 7 key from the bottom of my HP dv6 and viola, I've got win 10 for free on my new laptop which saved me 70 bucks=)
PS
New versions of CCC (Control Center AP (5.0001.0.98) for Windows 10 64-bit.) and XB5 (
SBX-Fi MB5 AP (1.01.21) for Windows 10 64-bit.
) are up on clevo=)Last edited: Nov 11, 2016DoomLP and FredSRichardson like this. -
And now to the questions. There are two things that are bothering me:
1) can anyone clarify the presence of simcard slot on 650RS, and how to make it work? everything else worked pretty well by default windows update drivers. How to make simcard slot work, didn't find any drivers on clevo, or sagernotebook.
2) sometimes i get freezes for a second or so, while navigating through windows? does anyone have the same problem? -

You need to have a Qualcomm 3G/4G M.2 Module in place of your Intel AC / Killer Wireless network card. Insert the SIM, and it will use your data as an internet connection. I believe all P650RS models come equipped with a functional sim card slot, unlike the previous gen P650SGs, where 99% of the time the sim card slot was there but no hardware underneath. -
Has anyone successfully found a replacement panel for the 15" RP6-G?
I love the color reproduction but I can't handle the very slow response times much longer... wouldn't mind too much losing gsync too if it meant a higher refresh/ lower response time panel -

-
So has a newer BIOS fixed the external display problems once and for all? Which companies have released good ones?
-
The latest XMG BIOS does not fix flexicharger nor the Display bug for me. I think it would be mentioned in the *.txt if that would be the case anyway
