I'll be getting my 650RP6 this Sept and I'm new to Gsync and all the high-end gaming tech. But I'm a bit confuse... Do we have to cap the FPS (<60) to have Gsync all the time or having Gsync on automatically caps tha frame rate to 60?

Those temps were high. Even with furmark burn in and prime95 max heat my GPU does not go beyond 80C, and CPU 94, but that is a totally unrealistic scenario. When I play Fallout 4 the worst temps I have experienced are GP 74C and CPU 73C, with my current -180 undervolt both CPU og GPU rarely pass 70C. There must be something wrong with the thermalpastejob on the reviewed sample.

Works fine for MMOs that aren't so clicky. I use a controller for FPS and don't play MOBAs.

Depends what you want. You can have vsync enable at 60, or GSync will turn off. Locking it below 60 leaves GSync on all the time.

How exactly do you lock the display below 60fps? Would constant 59fps be possible?

It is pretty much under 60 when you use gsync. In game you can probably cap lower fps. AFAIK in nvidia you can't make gsync a custom rate lower than your screen. It is just gsync on or off

Does anyone have a follow up to the external display issues referenced in post 1080? I just purchased a NP8153-S from Sager and plan to connect two external displays via the miniDP ports. Has the high CPU usage when connecting external displays been addressed by Clevo?

Did you do a repaste by chance?
My 1070 equipped rs-g with factory IC paste hit 96 CPU and 88 GPU in testing.

I don't know if the rs-g has the same panel but I find light bleed on mine very minimal. I only notice it at the bottom when the screen is 100% black. Otherwise I can't tell at all.

There are third party apps to cap the fps you output. GSync will then stay on if you lock it at 59.

The quality of this review seems not so good.. Seems that they don't have enough experience on other laptops espically those with Pascal gpus. This makes it impossible to make a proper rating.

So are those the little pads shipped in a bag with the laptop? I haven't gotten around to reading the manual yet. Yes, I'm a laptop hardware amateur :p

I think so. IC diamond should do better so perhaps you should get a repaste?

    Hi everyone,

Been a member here for a long time but upgraded just a few weeks ago to a new Clevo (ProStar) P670RS-G 17.3" with:

    i7 6700HQ (2.6GHz)
    8GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM stock + additional 32GB DDR 2400 MHz RAM (40GB RAM total)
    1TB SATA + 256GB OCZ RD400 (M.2 NVMe SSD)
    GTX 1070

Screen does have a few stuck pixels but a minor quibble since I use 2 externals on the DisplayPorts. Performance obviously screams and can get into that later, but wanted to ask a few questions:

    1. Other than the 2 SODIMM slots in the middle of the motherboard, where are the other slots located, and are they upgradeable (easily)? I ordered factory direct with 8GB DDR 2400MHz and filled the 2 empty slots with 2 x 16GB, so 40GB is obviously pretty decent for now, but might want to look at maxing out at 64GB down the road, hell I would need to overclock the RAM to even take advantage of the 2400 MHz.

    2. I do sit my laptop on a fan, sp my GPU temps when running DOOM maxed out are low, like 65C at the worst, but since the main vents are on the back of the laptop, the fan probably only makes a minor difference. I might overclock eventually, but just seeing how others are doing, since mine seems to run ice cold.

Yea this bleed is seen best during pitch black rooms with 100% brightness. At 40% brightness in a dark room with a black screen is more acceptable and with background light its even better to handle.

Hey, back again... I'm probably going for the Prostar P653rs-g. I was wavering between Prostar, Hidevolution and Xotic... Hidevolution was about a $100 more expensive for the same config and Xotic is selling these units with the 180w adaptor while the others are giving the 230w ac adaptor. Do any of you guys have any experience with Prostar? The online reseller ratings and reviews I looked at seemed positive, but another opinion wouldn't hurt. Thanks!!!

I just got a ProStar machine, shipping was quick with good packaging, system I ordered was a bit barebones and added some upgrades afterwards without much trouble, running great so far.

When I was shopping for mine, prostar was recommended as a place to look. I pretty much shopped between lpc, hid, and xotic though. Hid charges tax where I live and was already more expensive for my specific config, and xotic was more expensive than lpc. If you don't have to pay tax hid offers some nice bonuses(you have to pay extra though) like liquid metal thermal paste on the CPU which helps with cooling. Also keep in mind HID isn't a Sager reseller. They are a clevo reseller. So where Sager(the largest clevo reseller) makes the machine and then basically uses other resellers(like lpc) as well as selling direct to sell their stuff. Hid basically does what Sager does and orders the clevo barebones and builds it for you under their evoc brand. Since they are a smaller company it's harder for them to price match with Sager who can afford to drop prices a bit(due to more volume being sold and/or bulk discounts). This is why usually the Sager models are cheaper.

Thanks a ton!... that's quite a relief. How's their application of the thermal paste? Are your temps under control?? or would I need to repaste afterwards? Thanks.

Thanks!... I was really considering HID at first since their liquid ultra paste and the Prema bios seemed very attractive. But I guess the tax applies for me since their configs are about a $100-150 above the competition. Don't get me wrong.. the added price tag does come with the benefits of the bios and the thermal paste but that cost would put me over budget.

I have a fan underneath my laptop and when I run DOOM at max settings, my GPU is ice cold (65C), I am going to do a run tonight without the fan to see if temps change much, but since the main vents are on the back of the laptop, I expect a minor difference, but will know more later. The copper cooling probably impacts much more than any paste anyway. I will also install a CPU monitor just to see CPU temps.

The job of the fan is to blow cool air into the intake vents on the bottom of the laptop. The exhaust vent placement won't change the effectiveness of your cooling pad.

Hmm I see you saying "HID is more expensive" when I see their prices lower than Sager, does HID avoid showing taxes at their prices online? How can I know how much I have to pay in taxes if I'm abroad? Do they apply outside the US? (I know, this is more a question for HID than from you, but I might just give it a shot here)

Well for me I don't even need to check for taxes or anything like that, the moment I start customizing the system with similar config to the Sagers or the Prostar, it ends up showing me about a $100-150 more.

Those temps are quite high, but please see this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...dm2-3-g-p75xdm2-g-sager-np9152-np9172.795911/

In the discussion there is a mention of having to repaste the P650RS-G with factory IC Diamond paste. The reported reduction in temperature doing this is quite significant.

I have a P650RG on order and I also ordered Gelid Extreme and Arctic cleaner in preparation for cleaning up a possibly sloppy paste job (after benchmarking and measuring temperatures that is).

You can also help the thread by posting your temps - there are notes at the top for this.

Oops, I didn't notice HID not offering an OS as default config :D still, as far as I can see, if I configure both an RP6 and a NP8151 with a single 1TB HDD, IC Diamond, W10 64b Home and Killer Wireless, the delta is $10, and let's not forget HID comes with Prema BIOS.

At least, in this case, it doesn't seem like a noticeable difference

Difference between P651 and P650 is merely aesthetical (One has brushed aluminium while the other one sports a sanded aluminium), and difference between RS aND RP6 is that the latter has a 1060, while the first one has a 1070

The rp6 means it has the gtx 1060. The RS means it has the gtx 1070. The RS is also a little thicker and has slightly better cooling to accommodate the faster GPU. P650 and p651 are same. Just slightly different visual differences(p650 has chrome accents around rear vents for instance)

I got the Sager np8153 special, which has Sandisk x400 256gb SSD, ic diamond, win 10, 1tb HDD, 16gb ram, and the Intel card. At hid that comes out to about $100 more than what I paid, then I'd add on like $200 in taxes :(

Edit could've sworn the last time I did it was closer to $200 Delta. Maybe prices came down or my memory is just bad lol

if you are from europe they offer a special service called UK dispatch service that allows you to avoid any custom duties and import taxes, by simply adding 7% more on the final price of the notebook. I am from Italy and, despite the added 7%, my P670RS G was cheaper that if I have bought it from any european reseller. Moreover it comes with Prema bios and CLLU on CPU ( to be specific HID will flash prema bios remotely when it will be available )

Almost correct ... RS has the 1070 according to Clevo website.
However be aware that many re-sellers offer the RS with 1060 too, so you have to choose 1070 in the configuration if you want it. Don't take for granted that it comes with the 1070 just because it has RS in the name.
RS can fit both 1060 or 1070,on the contrary, if it has RP6 in the name, you can be sure that it comes with the 1060.
