You need to service that unit then.
The sudden shutdown you are experiencing is not something you can fix.

Sounds like a capacitor or VRM chip going bad to me so as above, I would send it in.

Hey guys, new here! Does anyone still uses this laptop ? Tempted to purchase it from Obsidian-PC, but can't find more recent reviews or at least how do they hold up in a long term ?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! -

I had some concerns about it as well, some persisting from older reviews of the previous 970m model.
Looking at the good/bad points at the end of the review, the laptop appears to have a solid construction but is somewhat lacking in battery life. It's worth noting that this review model contains an HDD as a second drive. If you spec yours to just have a lone SSD you may get better battery life.
It manages thermals well considering its size. Performance would be what you can expect from the given spec but it will decrease when running on battery power. The screen seems to be good, not the best colour gamut coverage but considering what you're paying, it could be much worse. Other options that have 100% sRGB seem to be much more expensive (Dell XPS 15, Gigabyte's Aero laptops). No PWM which good.
An alternative to consider could be a Clevo N850 with a 1050ti. It has a worse chassis and worse cooling design but you get a slightly bigger screen and a larger + removable battery. Something to compare. I feel a more well built laptop like this might hold up better for long term use though, especially if other options get much hotter.
You could probably squeeze in some more battery life by replacing thermal paste and under-volting the CPU slightly. A YouTube channel, Dave2D, made a video on this subject.

Replacing the thermal paste can improve temperatures but battery life, usually not so much as it wont normally make the fans spin an entire step lower.
