What are the 7970 driver issues? How would I fix them? I wouldn't think there would be to much issues that far into its life.

Sry hate to spam your guys forum but how long do you think a 7970 will last me? Will I still be able to be playing games 4 years down the road from now?
-
So I placed an order with XoticPC before the $50 off summer promotion and payed by check... My order is still pending and Sager has not built my system yet. Do you think I could get that $50 off?

I might want to upgrade to an 8250-S... Could you cancel my original order so I can place a new order to simplify things? I've made a lot of changes to my order. >.> -

[EDIT]
Last time that I bothered to check a few years back, nvidia was still going back to GF2. Granted no new features, but still bug fixes on occasion...

The 5000 series will hit the 4th year pretty soon.
If they really dump support after 3 years they are late in doing so (5000 series). -
hello.
these are my 3Dmark scores
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Notebook P15SM

Grrr... stupid fedex tried to deliver my hdd 4h early and of course noone was around to sign for it... (why the seller sent it signature required is beyond me... it was c. $120 package... I could see it for my 8250(c. 18x the value), which the UPS guy ALMOST forgot about... )
Now I get to make a wonderful excursion out to near the airport... Probably try to do the hdd/ssd on friday... depending upon whether or not I feel like driving to the airport this evening...
Did you run that on batt? It's showing core clock as 324, shouldn't it be 823? -
-
i think 3d mark only gets the idel core clock??!! idk.. does any one know if the gtx 780m should be 823 insted of 324?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Detection might be snapped at the wrong time, much better to rely on proper monitoring software.
-
i used 3D mark do u have any other program that i can test this with ?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Probably from the results page.
-
i searched for other ppl score and they all have the same clock !! NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3940XM,Alienware M18xR2 this is am example .
i just downloaded nvidia performance tools and clock was on 324 but i can overclock to 648.. should it be on 823?! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Why are you overclocking your 2d settings?
-
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, the other program was detecting your 2d clocks. Your card is working normally.

Made the onerous journey to pick up my hdd, and crucial m4 128gb came, so maybe I'll experiment in the morning...
(I HAD been thinking that the hdd was TINY until I opened up the crucial package... stilly teeny tiny for an hdd just hope that it works out well...)
Going to try out a brand new win7 install on the ssd rather than trying to be tricky, i.e. imaging the current 750gb boot drive onto it somehow, but for me this is all experimental and for $100 if the ssd dies in a few months no biggie, and if it doesn't maybe 256gb for the other msata slot... if nothing else should make finding the optional update(s) that trashed wifi net MUCH less tedious... -
...well hdd is in. adding 935GB of storage...
Just a good thing that I remembered that bag of screws that came in w/the manual & driver disks wondering WTH they were for at the time...
Also the downloadable manual has the WRONG instructions for model B(P157SM) batt removal. The D&E instructions are correct, so it should be B,D, & E. It's pretty obvious how it comes out as the batt cannot possibly slide anywhere, just have to lift/tilt it out.
Next step will be SSD(mSATA), might just go ahead and do that this afternoon as it shouldn't take very long given that it's a simpler mechanical operation that the 2nd hdd bay was. Of course then there will be the tedious OS install/mb/drivers/chipset/setup... which will wait... -
Trust me, you have TOTALLY made the right choice. I have purchased two exact spec'd machines like you did, except P150SM model's and with 16GB of ram. The screen is also amazing!
Here is the most recent benchmarks I just ran which you will most likely be getting: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/721360-nvidia-gtx-780m-benchmarks-overblocks-vbios-afterburner-evga-etc-27.html#post9270604 -
For anyone who has got a P15*SM, is the optical bay hot-swap-able?
-
Found something interesting...
X75 Power Connector - 7.4 x 5.08mm Female Jack to 5.5 x 2.5mm Male Plug
If that adapter fits perfectly with the 240w Dell PSUs (PA-9E), then that means easy, no soldering needed, high-wattage rated PSUs for all!
I know it says 7.4x5.08, but the picture shows 7.4x5.0! -
Could anyone else weigh in on this? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I believe it works but runs very hot as the middle is quite thin. May not be suitable for really pushing it.

Hi all,
New to the forums and a brand new owner of a decked out 8250-S... Ordered through Xotic-PC and loving the system so far; performance has just blown me away. The customer service over there was also great during the purchase / build process so (no I don't work for them or have any vested interest in them) a great outfit if you're looking to purchase...
That said, I've run into two issues (one of which is driving me crazy) and didn't know if anyone could assist. I've reached out to Xotic for assistance with both, but given the holiday things are rightfully a bit slow and I'm an impatient gamer The first issue was with the build / order - they sent me a second AC Adapter, instead of a second battery like I ordered; working on the RMA for it right now. The second issue is the item which has me baffled and I really hope I'm not going to have to RMA the whole system for something this stupid...
After a couple of days of use (again, system is running exceptionally well, no issues), the LED Indicator Lights above the keyboard have completely gone out. No HD lights, Airplane Mode, GPU Indicators, nothing.... I've tried shutting down the PC and rebooting, turning off unplugging the AC and battery and then plugging it all back in and rebooting... nothing seems to work. Its almost like the plug fell out, so logically, that was my next guess?!?! So, with that said, should I open it up and take a look? If so, is the plug for the LED Indicator under the keyboard or under the back casing?
Just nervous about cracking into this new rig so soon... I've owned a lot of computers and done a lot of builds in the past, but laptop ownership (for gaming purposes) is new on my list relative to repairs
Thanks in advance for any advice or assistance you can provide,
AlienJG -
Well, decided to just go ahead and install the SSD and a fresh windows 7 install... boots pretty fast now, few seconds, but for windows at least, more importantly, once actually to the desktop it loads all the additional cruft(AV, hotkey app, etc. fast). (Weather got crappily rainy yesterday afternoon anyways, didn't stop the people with fireworks though, nice hazy smoke most of last night, and fireworks debris all over my yard this morning... not happy at all about that, but the stupid state modified the law stating that they had to use fireworks from private property which is ENTIRELY incompatible with relatively cramped suburban lots... oh well just wait for them to burn down a house, hopefully not mine... guess it was good that it was rainy... I don't mind the fireworks themselves, but this private property/home thing is ill considered...)
Can't remember if it was this thread or not, but now I am also having Bigfoot killer 1103 problems. It just disconnected for no apparent reason a few minutes ago as in actually turned off the card apparently.
[EDIT]
Heh. That 1TB WD runs 8C cooler than the Seagate idling, 30C v. 38C...
[/EDIT] -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The wd do tend to be a little cooler. Fresh install was a good idea
-
anyone tried the beta 320.4x? Any "better" for us than the 311.54? (On .27 now and BTW with the FRESH install my nvidia cp HAS a video side "tab" which had gone missing at some point on my Sager factory install... still missing tabs v. desktop though...) -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Optimus does have less options as the intel chip controls much of the display functionality.
-
@AlienJG - Personally I would wait and see what Xotic says. Expecially if it doesn't affect functionality in a large way. As to RMAing - I agree it sucks but you did put down a large amount of money into the rig. No need to dig your hole deeper. That being said - from what I understand, it is a fairly simple procedure to lift the keyboard though I haven't personally researched it yet. Good luck.
-
-
CP "tabs": I really don't care too much about them as (a) the nb will likely never be hooked to a monitor(s) and (b) even on the desktop I rarely mess with the "missing" ones(on nb, no 3D display as it's just a pricey gimmick to me. I'd rather something like oculus... or that other one that was tech demoed at E3(?) recently...)...
[EDIT]
Now debating Ubuntu yet again or Fedora 19 or go cra--- wait scratch that no FreeBSD until they get their UEFI running...
[/EDIT] -
Yes, it definitely wasn't a cheap investment - but relative to performance seems a worthwhile one! Just annoyed that something so small is going to cause me so much frustration!
I'll wait to hear from Xotic; wondering if some other item cause the problem - like a software glitch with GeForce Experience, or something like that, but it seems unlikely.
Bummer...... Love the rig though -
What are the differences of p150sm and p157sm
-
The P157SM should have a bit better cooling, though.
If you don't mind the looks of the P157SM, I'd choose that one. -
...and I think that's it... (buncha people complained about the backlit trackpad so they wanted the 150, but apparently there's a new BIOS/EC fw in the works to allow independent control of the trackpad from the kb... so that point is moot...)
Probably are slight "stylistic" differences as well, but I wasn't interested in that at all, more so in the 2nd hdd bay & backlit kb. (It's dead simple to install msatas, hdds in these models, so if ordering might want to see if you can roll your own separately but also remember you'll probably want to re-install the OS from scratch, fairly quick and straightforward with an ssd, win7x64 even turned off defrag and turned on trim support automagically, still turned off indexing manually though(on ssd).
Batt life seems pretty good, the Fn-ESC panel, power saver mode(increased backlight a bit) and I'm still @ 60% batt but just with light web surfing, FF running from ssd, so virtually no hdd activity... probably 2h or so now... -

Any dangers if it runs hot? Would it damage the laptop?
I know it would run a risk of setting the house on fire... I also know that if it gets hot enough to melt the wires on the inside of the adapter, that would be horrible... Smoke and Sparks. Don't want that to happen, do we? After all, that's for July 4th. -
Has anyone found a minipcie 802.11ac capable card available retail yet? I seem to remember one of the resellers/builders(mythologic maybe) mentioned something an Intel card at such a good price that they were going to make it default...
Can't find anything on newegg or amazon(it's real mess searching for electronics on amazon unless you have specific model/part #s and even then they still pile on the cruft)...
I'm contemplating upgrading home wireless to: ASUS RT-AC66U(damn! no strikethrough) ASUS RT-AC68U, and popping in their PCIe adapter, and hence would like to pull *sniff* my killer networks 1103, which while speedy probably would feel lacking after going ac... (Not to mention that from I've read in reviews of decent routers that ac is generally more reliable/better range although I wonder how much of that is because it's not really crowded yet...)
[EDIT]
Well, I turned up this handy list:
http://wikidevi.com/wiki/List_of_802.11ac_Hardware
apparently no minipcie available retail yet, but I'm continuing on in my search even though that list appears to be updated fairly often...
Going to wait now for the 68U release, so I'm feeling less trigger happy and maybe some minipcies will popup soonish...
[/EDIT]
[EDIT2]
Yeah, thanks again, but that card is just way too wimpy... I'll just sit back for 68u and hopefully at least 3x3:3 cards... price is awesome(assuming some of those sellers actually have what they claim, although I'm skeptical given the lack of specs(or any details at all) on some of them..) 867 just not gonna cut it(even for the 66u), and I have time while I wait and watch.

If sacrificing Bluetooth is fine, this does look good.
