It hasn't been fully validated/proven yet. Many are thinking you may not be able to. My hope is there will at least be the capability to manually switch in the BIOS or something.

This already runs cool, 3612qm won't make a noticeable difference and will only run slower. And if you were talking about surface temps, they never get hot.

    Please clarify.

I've been noticing that whenever I start up my computer or wake it from sleep I notice these artifacts on the screen on the top left of the screen (always in the same place). Sometimes they disappear within a few seconds, other times they only disappear when I open a window or start an application.

I think it's a driver issue. If I start my computer in Safe Mode or if I uninstall the Intel graphics driver (with the default VGA driver instead of the Intel HD 3000 one) I never see them. I even tried to update the Intel graphics driver to the latest one from the Intel website (latest version there is .2622 while the one on the CD is .2618). The latest ones install but all I get is a black screen after the Windows startup logo. I end up having to go back to the default ones.

Anybody know what could be causing this? It doesn't seem like a big deal but it's annoying to see it at every start up. I haven't had any BSOD or crashes or anything: just these annoying artifacts that appear to be more cosmetic than anything. I've attached a photo to show what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Intel® Core? i7-3610QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)

Yeah, it's interesting that the 3612QM does support it at 35W TDP. Strange: http://ark.intel.com/products/65710/Intel-Core-i7-3612QE-Processor-(6M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz).

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought you were referring to a specific cpu, and not all 3610qm's in general. 3720qm should have it, mythlogic has that at almost 1/4 of what everyone else wants for it. I think 2760qm is $47 over 2670qm, so it should be the same for ivy.

Could anyone tell me what type of memory comes as the default in this laptop from Malibal? I would really like Corsair memory since I plan to buy it with the default 8GB (requested to be installed in the under-keyboard slots) and then get 8GB more off Newegg or a similar site. So if that's what the default kind of memory is to begin with, then my proposed idea works fine. If not, I'd best order the laptop with no RAM and buy myself 16GB all from Newegg (also this would save me ~$3, but honestly I'd rather not have to be taking the keyboard off or anything like that).

    Thanks,
    ~Tyranids

Why does it matter? You can install as many brands as you want, but it will slow down if you don't do them in pairs, including size.

Anyone got a link to the audio drivers for the p150-em?

Got my machine today, instantly whop in my ssd and install my own copy of win7, but just can't seem to get a hold of the right audio drivers.

Tried the clevo site but for some reason the downloads just seem to conk out and die before they finish. Did manage to install a driver that looked like it was behaving alright, but it wouldnt work with THX and the sound quality was awful. Anyone got any ideas?

is that the right one? searching the version number from the clevo website shows some realtek driver... but it was kinda rubbish.

    Got a link?

EDIT: Ugh, seems that whenever I run anything with the dgpu, and the power is plugged in, I get electric static noises from the sound card :/

Think this one might have to go back...

So if it comes with 8GB at 1600MHz then I install another brand which is also 2x4GB @ 1600MHz, then there won't be any performance hit? Thanks

9.5mm will work just fine. The 7mm versions will fit as well, though they might be looser in the primary bay without a bit of extra padding.

I see what you did there...

True. You can even change the sizes. For example, when I buy mine it will come with 2x4GB@1600 samsung, and will be adding 2x8GB@1600 corsair later. The only thing you have to watch out for is that all RAM will downclock to the speed of your slowest stick.

The other thing you have to watch for is whether the RAM is JEDEC rated or XMP. JEDEC means that it runs at the rated speeds without any changes, while XMP RAM requires chipset support for overclocking to reach them. JEDEC can also be listed as "auto overclocking" or "plug and play".

speaking of memory, when I buy my 150em in a month or 2 I was thinking about possible upgrading the memory. What is everyone's favorite ram to use in their sagers. Is it corsair? kingston? mushkin? Not really up to date on laptop ram at all. Back in the day in 1999 I had mushkin in my desktop that performed like a champ, fast forward 10 years and I had a corsair stick that went out on me. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Take your pick with RAM. Doesn't matter much really. Just stick with the popular brands and you should be fine.

You can make a bootable Windows 7 usb installer. Just use the official tool and either your retail install disk, or an .iso image.

    Microsoft Store Online

You can also do it manually if you prefer command prompt and diskpart:

Woohoo, ivy bridge time!!! And guess what? Mythlogic has it a few dollars cheaper than sandy! Take that, pessimists! Also, they have 3612qm, but it's $80 more than 3610qm. And all the sandy dual cores are still there.

    I got a question.

Does it matter if you have your SSD(disk i will be using for OS) in the optical bay as a secondary? In short, i want to know if it matters where your HDD and SSD is located in the computer ie. optical bay or primary drive???

Is their a difference in performance etc.. ?

    Cheers,

D: none of the other resellers have IB up...

Xotic PC has IB up for MSI laptops, but not Sagers. Malibal doesn't have IB up either.

EDIT: and powernotebooks does too. What happened to Xotic and Malibal?

I don't know if the optical bay is sata III or sata II, but just in case, I would put the SSD in the normal hard drive slot and your much slower hdd into the optical bay.

The thing is that the configuration with the HDD in the optical bay cost 25$ more for some reason.

How can i know if the optical bay is sata 2 or 3?

Well order it with the sata in the optical bay and then swap it yourself. You could always test the ssd in the optical drive by looking in the intel rapid storage technology window to see what it says, but you'd have to have the laptop in hand. Someone will hopefully chime in with information on the optical bay's specs...

The i7-3160QM is probably the best for the price. However you can compare their performances here.

Optical bay uses SATA 2 which is slower than SATA 3 in the primary drive. If you were to install a SSD that uses SATA 3 in the optical bay it wouldn't perform as fast as if you were to install it in the primary drive.

Mythlogic told me that both the mSATA drive and any drive installed in the ODD bay will run at SATA2. Only the main bay runs at SATA3. Because of this, I scrapped going mSATA and scrapped putting a drive in the optical disk drive bay...because I no longer like using HDD at all and SSDs would be limited in their speed by SATA2.

Down the road, if I need mass storage, I may dump a 7.2k RPM HDD in the ODD...but at that point I just may buy an external eSATA drive.

Yeah I meant the i7-3610QM. No, I think 7200 rmp in SATA 2 will not lower its performance, since SATA 2 offere 3 Gb/sec which is as fast as you are going to get with a 7200 rmp drive.

I am not an expert to go into technical details, but from what I know you aren't not going to see much differences between 3610 versus 3720 and the performance that you will see is not going to worth the extra $200.

For what it's worth I think it's better if you invest the extra $200 in the a better GPU, AMD 7970M which is what everybody is waiting for. What's your budget, thailandgod?

For the average user, ssd will be the biggest gain. More ram won't help for games, even way down the road 8gb should be enough and it's very easy to upgrade. Most people can't use the extra speed of the 3720qm, the only reason to get it is if you need VT-d, are buying from Mythlogic, or run programs that are CPU-intensive enough to see the difference from 300Mhz. Personally, I fall into the last two categories, so I'll definitely be getting it.
I should add that the 2630qm was already overkill for games, to put things in perspective.

Is there any cons with 3610 compared to 3720? As I can see they both support the same amount of ram and ram speed.
What cpu needs/support1866mhz ram? Is it a point having 1866mhz ram?

Pulled the trigger on the below config at xoticpc. What do you guys think? I forgot to enter the free shipping code, and to remove sager branding, but I figure I can fix that by calling/chatting with them.
