So I've been having a little bit of trouble configuring the switchable graphics in the 7970m:

I can add an application temporarily to "other appications" and set a profile, but when I restart it's gone, so mostly I'm stuck with what you see above.I have the most recent non-beta drivers installed from the web site.

Yeah, it'll memorize everything even though it doesn't seem that way.

Isn't that the most dumb idea ever? It's the same on my P151EM... So annoying... put my laptop to sleep halfway through a BF3 game... at least now i know how fast it goes to sleep...

    Folks,
I finally got my machine, but a few issues:
    I ordered 16G of 1333, and HWinfo64 reports 8G of 800MHz. Windows right-click of my computer->properties also shows only 8G.

HWinfo64 also says slot 1 and 3 are occupied. I want to open this sucker up and see if 2 od the memory modules are just not seated, and there was a video of the 9150 being taken apart, but I can't find the link. Anyone know that?

Second thing... Using windows Device Manager, it shows the 7970m, but using HWinfo64 is only shows the intel. I added hwinfo64.eve to the Catalyst and assigned it to high performance, then rebooted, and still no showing of the 7970m.

I need to completely re-install anyhow, but wanted to take an inventory of my machine before moving forward, and would really like that video.

    Thanks!

Did you order 4x4GB or 2x8GB DDR3 1333? If 4 modules, then just open up the bottom panel and check to see if two are under the bottom panel. Otherwise the other two are under the keyboard.

It's easy to pop off the bottom...4 screws and it slides right off. The nut is right--if there are only 2 modules, they should be under the keyboard. If four, you must have them below.

The 7970m will not show up in HWinfo or HWmonitor. The temps for the 7970m are the temps for the listed intel GPU...I know its whack, but that's how they're reported. Download MSI Afterburner and look at the temps reported for the 7970m there and you'll see they're the same reported for the intel GPU in HWmonitor.

    E. Blar said how to disable it. "Click on the battery icon on the bottom right, go to More Power Options, click Choose What The Power Buttons Do, and set the sleep button to Do Nothing."

    Thanks, dude!

I have a Malibal Lotus P150EM with i7 3920, 8GB 1600MHz sdram, 500gb HDD which I replaced with a Vertes 4 512GB SSD and a Nvidia GTX 580M because the 675M was on backorder. I have not been able to get the switchable graphics to behave. Intel HD 4000 is okay but I have had 0 luck getting Nvidia drivers to recognize the 580M.
I found upgrademonkey on ebay and purchased a AMD HD 7970M and installed it. Unfortunately the same problem still exists, I am unable to get the 12.6 and 12.7 beta drivers to recognize the 7970M. The 12.6 drivers refused to install, the 12.7 beta drivers installed but fails to detect the video card. I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. I will check to see if I need a new vbios or something.

tried that and the 12.5 that alienware users were using. It gave me a blue screen saying my computer crashed and forcing me to reboot. the 12.4-12.5 catalyst drivers do not support enduro, therefore WILL make your clevo 7970m laptop crash. alienware users can use any amd driver they want because they can run without enduro.

Opened the bottom -- no memory. So, they just didn't add the 2x 4Gs. Emailing Xotic now. WRT the speed reported by HWinfo64 -- 800 MHz doesn't seem right... Does Afterburner show details like that?

isnt 12.4 the ones that comes with the machine?
    the default clevo drivers?

that makes no sense since many other people using the default clevo ones are doing just fine enduro still sucks but no bsods and such

2 questions. First I have the 8.970.0.0 version of drivers are these the 12.5 beta drivers? and second what exe file do i use to switch the graphics for skyrim or any steam game for that fact? Do i have to go into the C:\steam\steamapps\username file location or do i just play the game and when im done will it ask me what i want to use for the program? I have tried skyrim and it doesn't give me the usual pop-up message saying that program has already been assigned. I know alot of people have had issues with skyrim and the 7970m.

Edit: I have an issue using the official amd drivers, it says i have incompatible hardware, what does that mean?? I have the amd gpu?

I'm not able to use the stock drivers, 12.6, or 12.7, or the Alienware ones -_-

I am using a Digital River copy of Win 7 64 bit Pro, does that make a difference? I got the link from on these forums on the legal copy thread thing.

I feel like this may be a hardware issue I'm not sure -_-

It shows the Intel HD 4000 chipset and the AMD HD 7970M but with an error and looking further it's code 43. Might have to try re-installing the driver.

No dice for me, nothing but CPU and battery there.

No problem. Something odd I noticed when fiddling with the setting there though, if you set "when I close the lid" to nothing, then the screen will turn off (different from sleep) but the keyboard remains lit. So If I look at it just right while it's closed, I can see my keyboard glowing.

The ram is DDR so it's actually running at 1600MHz. Also you don't need to open our laptop to check where the ram is, if it's on the bottom then you can see it through a vent.

    He's trying to.

I was, but now it's the weekend and I can't until Monday when they give me an RMA code; also now that I see other people having errors like mine I'm not positive it's hardware related anymore :/

I had the error code 43 also like geedub. And can't get any drivers working -_-

Which version of .NET framework do I need for CCC? I'm so frustrated at how long this has been taking and I still can't use my 7970m

I suggest everyone to just stay with the stock DVD drivers until 12.7 WHQL which is anticipated, not guaranteed, to support the 7970m. Do not try to use 12.5 or lower drivers that alienware users are using with their 7970m, it won't work with enduro thus will also not work with clevo's with 7970m (except the HM models). 12.6 and 12.7 beta will only work right if only the driver was installed via "custom install" you must use stock everything else like the CCC version.

I'm not getting 100% GPU utilization in Furmark, but I've had no problems at all. Haven't even checked the GPU usage in games - everything I've been playing has run smoothly, even on an external monitor at 2560x1440. Never seen a GPU temperature over 75 degrees, either; which is nice. I'm not playing BF3, though, which seems to be more demanding than a lot of other games.

Using all the stock drivers off the DVD. Having to select which graphics card to use for every program is a little annoying, but I had an older Asus laptop with optimus, and had to do the same thing there.

In general, very happy with the laptop. Keyboard isn't perfect - no actual problems with it, just the layout isn't ideal. Battery life isn't great - about 3.5 hours of web browsing. But the screen (95% gamut Matte) is beautiful, speakers are decent enough for a laptop, and the performance is outstanding.

Dunno, with that many freeware antiviruses it's sort of pointless to buy an antivirus. Malwarebytes + avast is a good combo. avast has saved me from multiple trojans in my experience.

If you are smart about your web browsing, you can get by with any anti-virus.

I've used Norton for the last 4 years and I've never got a virus. Why Norton? Because my dad buys a family pack and gives me a serial. Before that, I used AVG free for 6 years and never got a virus.

I would say just get a free anti-virus. Windows Defender, AVG, Avast. Use that with Malwarebytes (also free, but you can pay for real time protection) and you are set.

Wow... this is the first time on these forums (and OC.net) that someone didn't say MSE for 10+ posts later. Get MSE, it's awesome and lightweight and free. I'm not a fan of Norton at all, not even if it was paid, that stuff and mcafee work like spyware and required so much overhead it would impact performance.

Get MSE for spyware protection and Malwarebytes(free) for scanning/removal purposes. I'd recommend Malwarebytes paid for a good anti-spyware software (I didn't see Malwarebytes mentioned either! *GASP*).

One site I've found useful for information is Gizmo's Freeware.

Some stuff that comes to mind:
Gizmo Drive - freeware for mounting ISO files
ImgBurn - good freeware for burning CDs/DVDs
Sandboxie - helps prevent viruses from invading your PC via the web brower
CCleaner - a must have freeware

Because nobody wants to use stock drivers.

Noscript. It's not an anti-virus, but works much better.

McAfee is bloatware in my book due to their shady privacy policy. The only problem I have with MSE is that when our copy of windows decides to pretend it's not genuine and our activation code doesn't do anything, it stops working.

These missed keystrokes are starting to get really annoying. I wonder if the steelseries is any better... Even if it was, though, I couldn't afford it. I currently need my money to fix my thinkpad so I have a backup computer.

hey guys, my 9150 should be here on Tuesday. I've been reading about all the driver shenanigans and it seems the consensus is to use the stock drivers for now. I believe these drivers come on a CD with the computer, but what if I configured my 9150 with no optical drive? Presumably they can be downloaded somewhere?
