Have this notebook a 144hz display? https://www.gamingguru.de/guru-moon-rtx.html#1cedbcae4f6370605f9b9fd5dc7dce71

Usually I'd it does not say the refresh rate it is 60Hz, speak to the reseller.
-
Do you know if any larger power supplies are compatible with this laptop?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Any reason why? I believe 230w is the maximum size with the barrel type connector.

I see. I was debating on buying the RTX 2070 model and some of my work requires CPU and GPU usage at 100% simultaneously

Reviews:
The main advantage of this model to me is the 65W desktop processor setup using hybrid graphics combined with mini-DisplayPort connectors for both the UHD630 GPU and Nvidia dedicated GPU. This allows the machine to function well as a dual purpose work / gaming machine with great alternative OS support and performance. I intend to triple boot Linux / MacOS / Windows 10 and will post feedback on each experience.jaybee83, alaskajoel, B0B and 1 other person like this. -

The 9900 non K will be interesting to see how far 65w gets you.

Why does that matter in a locked platform? I mean you could test it I suppose but I've not seen the results yet.

WOWWWWWW i9-9900 stress test at low 80? Seems too good to be true!!! -
win32asmguy Moderator Moderator
Yeah, thats correct. I had one with an i9-9900 and it had no trouble cooling the 65W CPU.
-

Nice big die with the same TDP so it's still good
-
Does anyone have a unlocked bios, or the latest bios by chance?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The latest will be from your reseller. No unlocked ones that I know of as there would be little point.
-
Why "little point"? Can list quite a few disabled settings that would greatly enhance the system. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What sort of settings?
-
Xmp is by far the most annoying option not to have. Forcing me to use Xtu to set my profile is absurd.
I overclock as a hobby over at hwbot. Laptops prove to be the greatest challenge, due to tdp limitations, and just the sheer amount of cooling available. Hell had the laptop 30 minutes before I voided the warranty by putting liquid metal on the gpu hs.
Funny to gather points you have to balance the system as a whole, instead of brute force like the desktop counterparts. For those interested my hwbot hwbot.org/user/deanomax/
So imo buying a desktop replacement should follow the same path as if it was a traditional system, when it comes to settings within the bios.
Would you accept a neutered bios on your gaming desktop motherboard? Due to the vast majority of users, being practically braindead when it comes to bios's? No, because that would be absurd.
I mean there is absolutely nothing enabled for user control in this system. Its insane. I even called eluktronics, and told them Id waive any liability towards them for an unlocked bios. Sure you know where that went. They didnt even have a driver page for my model, and instead directed me to clevos download repository.
Dont get me started on trying to find software to adjust and manipulate my system via windows.
Then again for 1,099 bucks shipped to my door with a rtx2070 maxq that runs at 1600mhz + comfortably at under 70c, is well worth the aggravation imo. Plus I will be recieving an unlocked bios from the bios gods thankfully.
Glad I didnt have to wait on my deadbeat reseller lmao. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's the value model with a locked desktop CPU which tend to be more locked down than the mobile chips even so there wont be too much to tweak AFAIK.
-
I just bought the barebones, and populated it myself.
Got sorted out with a bios as well. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'd be interested what options work tweaking wise.
-
Not sure I follow, exaclty what your asking?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You say you got a modified bios, did you get anywhere with it?
-
Lot of irl stuff atm. But from initial testing very much so. Prema is a god!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It has been a while since I've seen the locked desktop machines tweaked so when you get a chance, please share.
-
Keep an eye on the bot. Were on the same team
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Good luck, just watch that vrm if you have power control.
-
Thanks for the pointers, no stranger to air. Getting that 7700k up to 5.4 xtu stable on aio was a pain. This time custom waters going on all . So should be very interesting
-
So how does this laptop stay so cool with a 65w desktop chip? It looks like only 2 heat pipes on the CPU. Other laptops have 4-5 heat pipes and have trouble cooling a 35w mobile chip. Is it because the desktop chip physically larger?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Heatpipes are one side of the equation, but fin area and fan size also matter.
-
Debating between this unit and the Mech-15. Like the size and weight of the M-15, but the horsepower of the N970TF sure is an attention getter.
I guess my question would be how is the battery if a person is just using the integrated graphics for browsing?
Looking for a replacement for my Dell Precision M-6700. I will get a spare battery for backup. Just would like to have some idea if one spare is enough. -
Well, bit the bullet and ordered a N970TF from Amazon. Didn't think $1,499.00 was too bad for a i5-9400, 512gb SSD, and 16gb dual channel RAM to start out with. Can always upgrade later.
-
This is not a bad laptop. That 9900 non K looked pretty good in R20 at over 4,200 score with only 65-75 watts? Wow.
It is amazing what it actually takes to get a 8700K or 8086K near these numbers. And the power draw we are putting out on 6 cores to manage over 4,000 in R20.
I wonder how the 9900 non k would compare to a 8700K at around 5Ghz in 1080P gaming in BFV.
I’m super interested. -
Darn food and utilities. Lol. But anyway, figured the i5-9400 is a good start, and now I have something to ask for my birthday next November. -

Here are my Linux notes. With the RTX 2070 disabled and brightness at 30% power consumption is only 12W or so, not bad for a DTR with an i9!

51 years old, and still I like to game some evenings when I get home from work. Now with this beast, I can finally spend some time learning Blender and play some major World of Tanks.
Now just need to convince my wife to give up our current DSL line, which we have simply for her fax which she uses once or twice a year, so I can get us a fiber optic Net connection. -
