PLEASE HELP-- ANYONE WHO OWNS A CLEVO N850 HJ or HK
My new PC keyboard and others on brand new PCs of this model for sale here in Australia are displaying colours incorrectly on what appear to be faulty keyboards.
I trying to determine if this problem is specific only to this model here in Australia and if my reseller has gotten a faulty batch or if it is worldwide and very bad engineering and quality control by Clevo.
I will be submitting a written complaint to my resellers manager to forward this issue to Clevo.
CAN ANYONE who owns one of these PCs PLEASE CHECK if your PC is behaving as below and post a reply in this thread describing what you see. Thank you
THE PROBLEM--
When displaying red, green or dark blue over the whole keyboard ALL LEDs under ALL keys display the correct colour.
When displaying light blue, yellow or purple as selected from the colour wheel app, ALL the keys and LEDs on the entire keyboard also display the correct colour selected EXCEPT
ALL the keys on the front row display 2 different colours, one on the Left & one on the Right side, front and back of EACH key.
When light blue key colour is selected the front row only shows dark blue one side and green on the other.
When yellow key colour is selected the front row only shows yellow one side and green on the other.
When purple key colour is selected the front row only shows purple one side and dark blue on the other.
This fault is very obvious, looks bad and most would naturally assume is a definite fault with the keyboard. -
Some reviews for anyone interested--

Also a New review from Toms Hardware-
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sager-np6852-gaming-laptop-review,4955.html
A few of my own observations that differ from the Toms review-
The first of these is that my CPU and GPU are not getting as hot as they did in their tests.
In a 23C room, running separately several times, Prime 95 stress test saw my CPU go to a Max of 85C and Furmark had my GPU at a Max of 80C.
This was with fan speed on Auto, switching manually to 100% fan speed and the temps were slightly less.
If you add 10C to the room temp to make it a very hot 33C then Add the same to the above temps then 90-95C in a very hot environment.
The max TDP for the i7700HQ CPU according to Intel specs is 100C.
So I dont think with normal gaming and multimedia use the cooling is really a worrying issue.
Your results may of course vary.
Regarding build quality, I don't think it is quite as bad as they describe it -
The main hand rest and trackpad area is very firm , the area has only a very slight flex IF you press very firmly with your fingertips at certain points and try to deliberately flex it.
The keyboard in a few spots has a very slight flex IF you push abnormally hard on the keys and hold them down with that hard pressure.
Unless your stab at the keys individually very hard when typing you wont notice any with normal key press pressure.
I dont touch type but henpeck at keyboard with 2 fingers and a light touch and dont notice any flexing whatsoever with normal usage.
Yes it does flex if you push on the screen cover or try to open the screen against the firm hinge pressure on on side only instead of in the middle. Yes this could have been made out of thicker stronger plastic.
If you were very rough with the screen or hit the closed cover very hard with something very solid then you may do some damage to the screen but again with normal care in handling a PC it shouldn't be an issue.
I'm sure the same could be said of some Aluminium covers too.
Most of the mid and higher end Clevo PCs have an Al chassis so that is always a different buying option.
This is the entry level range.
The plastic is very resistant everywhere to fingerprint smudges which is great .
I am having an issue with the colour display as I have described in detail in my post above in this thread.
I will update this post with a few more observations as time permits.

The vbios is in the BIOS and I would not try to flash it, Nvidia laser cut their chips.

Do you by chance know where i can purchase "Part No: 6-43-n85h1-010-2s"
the 30pin LVDS tp 40Pin 4K Edp Cable?
In service manual as that part Number -

Usually your reseller is the best place to get such parts, there are a few parts suppliers out there though. I would not be able to directly recommend any however.

Well you have a decent package for now, no need to jump in immediately But yes they are fun too.

A) Maintain the same standards of testing/work.
B) Not place in their own code to potentially get up to no good. -
Sorry Prema did not know this...

Does anyone know if there is a Sager NP6852/N850HK1 specific bios update or when it is coming out? Has anyone successfully installed the Obsidian BIOS on the Sager NP6852/N850HK1? Thanks

@GroupilFroid
Mine is M2 ssd, I have one small termal pad on it covering only part of ssd.
I talked with XMG to buy another bottom cover and to mod it, make more air holes. Then fans on my laptop stand will be able to push more air inside.
I am frustrated with inability to make custom fan profiles. -
Oh you have a laptop stand ? The 55° idle is with the stand runnning ?
I've managed to get the temps down by removing the "Turbo Max Power" in the Intel software, and removing an Autodesk app which was using too much CPU.
Now I'm running at 50°C, with 10 Firefox tabs including one youtube, Steam, Discord and Winamp open.
I haven't tried the "Custom" mode for fan profile for now, I'll do -
Yep, 55 is with stand. If i turn fans on when I power on laptop temps are normal then, 42 for cpu, 38 for gpu and 39 for ssd. That is why I think this chasis has poor air flow.
I will try turning off that Intel Turbo. That is the only downside of this laptop for me. -
I have an idea about adding additional heat pipes, and additional heatsinks. I'm waiting for delivery, I hope everything will turn out as I planned)
-
Interesting, will follow that (oh crap, I have mine since last monday and I'm already considering modding it )

I really want to buy such cooling for the CPU(
-
i've just put a heatsink on PCH. With tape around chip, i have a good contact through thermal paste. Temperatures before was 90-95 under high loads in Division. Now, temp can't get more than 55 degrees. CPU dropped 3-5 degrees as well. First part of upgrade cooling is done.)
Must have everybody.LeMalina likes this. -
Interesting, does it still fit in the case or you did modify it ?
I'll have to check temps of my PCH -
-
I played a bit, and my PCH didn't went higher than 45°
CPU and GPU both reached more than 75°, so I guess I won't have to do this mod -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
-
oh ok, I'll keep monitoring it then

Is there any bios mod out yet?
-
Not to my knowledge
-
Only OBSIDIAN bios is modified for our models.

Intel(R) Speed Shift Technology - Now Enabled by Default and option in BIOS
Boot performance mode - Now TURBO Performance by Default
OS Select - Now default is "Windows 10"
BIOS Fast Boot (not to be confused with Windows Fast Boot) - Now Enable
Full Security Menu Options for Password Set (BIOS / HDDs)
CSM Options
That´s basically it, i´m about to finish the new version, which is basically the latest from CLEVO, but with menus filtered, our current version for this model is messed, too much options that do not do anything, so basically i´m cleaning the house on this one.
Still it wont give you "extra performance" just options, which most of them you can already control in Windows with software like TS.
The basics for this model is finding the perfect Undervolt value and rising power limits.
By undervolting your CPU will be able to maintain turbo clocks under heavy loads, and the temperatures will be fine if the builder used good thermal compounds. -
-
I think to buy one N850HP6 i7 from Obsidian.
I saw it is with GTX1060 - 6 GB - this model had same cooling system from N850HK1 or is modified to handle the heat from GTX1060?
The last "revision" from N850HK1 arrive with double heat-pipe for cpu and for gpu too.
But still, the heat from 1050 even ti can not compare with heat from 1060.
So, anybody know something about that?

I know it isn't the N850HK/HJ but my sisters N850HN has a weird touchpad issue where if you press any key on the keyboard the touchpad stops working until you release that key. This is bad for games that can be played on the go (eg.Minecraft) as the mouse freezes! Anyone have this issue?

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's designed that way to avoid issues when typing.

What's the recommended path for someone who wants an updated NP6852 [N850HK1] BIOS?
I reached out to Sager tech support and created a ticket, but haven't heard back from them in about a week.Last edited: Feb 2, 2018 -

Did anyone know how to fix problem "can't adjust display brightness using hotkey" (fn + f8, f9). My n850hk1 got that problem. I already tried 2 methods:
1. Disable graphic card driver then uninstall monitor ...
2. add "KMD_Enable ..."
None of those works. The other hotkeys work fine, except the brightness hotkey. I even tried clean install the windows, still no luck.Chapo likes this.
