Someone mentioned that in another thread, LOL it is not a special addition, so I fixed it. But I think the 8850 will do just fine for me. :p
I don't need no 8550 (which sounds like more of a downgrade if you look at it.)

I would try XOTIC, Powernotebooks, GenTech. Try to take advantage of the pricematching to save some $$$ OR get a barebone from RJTech and just get 940XM ES @ Ebay & SSD + HDD.

Alright guys, I have an NP8850 in for review.

    -17" 1080p glossy
    -W7 Ultimate x64
    -Core i7-940XM Extreme
    -GTX 480M 2GB
    -8GB DDR3-1333 RAM
    -Intel 80GB G2 SSD
    -Intel 6300 WLAN

It is one nasty beast. :) I'll be running benchmarks on it soon.

    Edit: 3DM06 (1280x1024) . . . 16167, first run @ stock.

I'm very interested in getting this machine. I've been reading about the high levels of heat that it produces. Will that cause the hardware to die quicker or is the cooling system good enough to keep it up and running?

That is the amazing thing about it. It DOES NOT produce much heat at all! The temps during gaming and benching are very, very good! ;)

The temps are very good as noted; I recorded the temps with HWMonitor while running 3DM06 in an 80*F room.

The cooling system on this notebook is superb. The only areas that feel remotely warm are right above the keyboard and around the fans on the bottom. Everywhere else is room temperature. It is also reasonably quiet though you can definitely hear the fans. I don't find the fan noise annoying at all. It seems to me like the fans on the NP8850 are quieter than the ones on the NP8760, though maybe I am just hearing things (maybe that should read "not hearing things" ;)).

Clevo/Sager and the newer Alienware notebooks have the best cooling systems.

This man speaks the truth. :)

Clevo and the new Dellienware machines cool like champs. Clevo has been known for quite some time to provide some beastly cooling.

Yeah the W8760CU i had was quiet overall.. Idle noise was not much louder then when it was under load though the machine was audible pretty much all the time since the GPU fan was running constant...

The M15x i have now is very quiet underload and idle ... The M17x's i had were leaf blowers but still great machines if you can handle the noise ...

I actually got mine yesterday. I had taken several photos of the unboxing. When I got the machine turned on, however, BAM! Dead pixel in the upper left part of the screen. I purchased the system from Maingear (their 8850 is called the eX-L 17), so it came with a 30-day dead pixel guarantee. I called them up, and in less than 5 minutes, we arranged an expedited replacement be sent, along with a pre-paid label to return the defective system. Yeah, I realize I could have paid less for the machine from Powernotebooks or Xotic PC, but the difference wasn't that great once you figured in the cost of the dead-pixel warranty and the fact that I'm getting 3 years of in-house tech support, rather than having to deal with Sager directly.

It's too bad because the system itself was fast as all get out. But when I'm spending this kind of money, I want perfection. I give kudos to Maingear for their prompt responses and acknowledgment. Hopefully by the middle of next week, I can finally sink my teeth into this monster notebook.

and im just wondering if the laptop case or body is like the D900F or more like M17. D900F is good coz its hard, high quality plastic but.. its a fingerprint magnet! i guess this also applies to those who owns a w870cu and w860cu. i just wanna post it here coz im having 2nd thoughts of what to get, w880cu or x7200. it takes like forever hell for the x7200 to be available.

I don't have an HD 5870-equipped notebook right now; I have tested them in the past but have not run any DX11 benchmarks on them.
