Hello all, I have been a lurker for quite some time on these forums, researching about the different laptops before I have finally came to a decision.
    I have just ordered a NP9377-S Clevo P377SM-A
    Here are the specifications:

Display 17.3" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen (1920x1080)
    4th Generation Intel® Haswell Core™ i7-4810MQ (2.8GHz - 3.8GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache)
IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
    NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 980M (8.0GB) GDDR5 PCI-Express DX11 (Maxwell)
    Ram 16GB DDR3 1600MHz [2x8GB] Kingston HYPER X (CL9) Dual Channel Memory
NO mSATA SSD Drives - Removed
    Primary Hard Drive 1TB 7200RPM [SATA II - 3GB/s]
Optical Drive Bay 6X Blu-Ray Reader + 8X DVDRW/CDRW Super Multi Combo Drive
    Intel® Dual Band AC 7260 802.11 A/AC/B/G/N 2.4/5.0GHz + Bluetooth™ 4.0
Operating System No Operating System [Drivers & Utility Software Only (Windows 7 & 8.1)]

Now for an SSD drive, I plan on swapping out the 1TB 7200rpm (to sell) and inserting a 512gb Samsung 850 Pro SSD for the primary hard drive.
Reason for this is because I plan to buy another 512gb 850 PRO ways down the road, and I want a pure ssd system.
Me removing the mSATA 120 gb ssd was to save money for the 512gb 850 pro.
I also plan to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit for my operating system.

What do you guys think of the Intel 730 480gb SSD? Samsung 500gb 840 pro?

Any idea what kind of software I should download on my new laptop?
Any tweaks/optimizing I should do to get the best out of my laptop?
Do you guys have any suggestions? anything else I should be doing? if I'm doing something wrong? Comments?
Any suggestions/comments/criticism will be so helpful.
I've been with a intel graphics card for all my life, and finally saved up enough money for a high end laptop. Thanks!

Get he 850 pro uses power/runs cooler, it's faster and more space. Not by much but is is more. As for tweaks I always turn indexing off, turn off page/swap file, delete the scheduled win7 defrag, turn off write cache for windows on c drive. I also disabke super prefetch. That's about all I do in windows 7.

Other than that raid up them 850 pros... Once you go raid you never go back :)

Also get put MSI afterburner, hwinfo on it to monitor temps etc. That's all my necessities I do, the load up games. :)

    Congrats! Great machine!

    Hi everybody!
I have a little problem with my clevo p377sm-a. I decided to upgrade my 880m to 980m and after i swiped the cards everything works good except for my fan. Temperature is growing up to 87 degrees and fan only works like it is 50 and doesn't go any higher. I have been trying to find a solution for it everywhere but no luck so far. Maybe you will have some ideas how to help me.
I tried different drivers and few bios versions and nothing really helps. From what I know temperatures on this Clevo model are usually between 73-78 degrees with stock Bios.
If anybody have any ideas How to help me it would be fantastic.
    Best regards.

Have you updated the system bios to the latest from prema?

Did you flash the EC at the same time? Which did you download exactly? Did you try a re flash?

I flashed with P377sm-a_310_39_pm_stock and the stock vbios as well. I have never tried to re flash twice with the same bios and Vbios. I also used the oc bios and vbios from prema but it didn't really changed anything.

I'd try flashing it again and make sure you do an ec reset like it advises by removing the main battery and ac power for a couple of minutes.

So what do I exactly have to do? :) first remove battery and Ac adapter and then install vbios? Or re flash both bios and vbios. Sorry for asking. I simply never had to do it before now so I simply though it will be enough to update a bios and vbios. I just did it like it was on their video.

Oh, ok. It updates both bios and ec firmware at the same time. But there is nothing there about removing the battery. So after flash was done I unplugged ac adapter for 30 sec and thats it. Should I do something more? I can try to flash it now again a few times and let you know later how it went.

Ok, I did it like you said but still the same. It is not a huge problem because when I game in fn+1 mode temperature is not higher then 78 in turbo boost mode but it would be really nice to have a lower temperature with automatic fan control.

What is the max resolution and hertz this laptop can drive via mini dp? Still can't get a solid answer on this.

I would think it would have more to do with what your monitor will support. Perhaps if you list the monitor model, resolution and refresh rate you want to use some one could do that specific test for you. Sadly I sold all of my 120hz displays so I can only play with 60 hz display overclocking.

That being said I did some tests with my Samsung U28D590 display over mDP (4k@60 is the official rating)

3840x2160 - 65 was the best mine could do without issues, it went much higher but had some screen artifacts
    2560x1440 - 85 hz
    1920x1080 - 85 hz

My internal display went 110+ but I just use 60. While over 60 is nice (I did enjoy 120 hz gaming for a while) I prefer steady 60 and a cooler system.

Thanks for the response this is great. I've actually tried two separate monitors and both of them locked up my machine and had to be returned. I wasn't certain if it was gsync causing the issues or my laptop (just tested the mini dp port now on a lowend monitor and it worked so I assume the port is working fine).

First was a 1080p/144hz BenQ with Gsync.

Second was XB270HU BPRZ WQHD with NVIDIA G-SYNC (1440p/144hz$

Both froze my machine anytime connected. Now I'm wonder if it was just incompatibility with the gsync module or what and if so- what's the best I can by? Seems a shame to have these 980m sli on the 1080p/60 built in screen.

    Thanks!

Yeah something weird is going on there. Did you try a different Windows install by chance with either monitor? I ask because it could have been some odd driver issue causing it. I have never had any issues with the mDP on my only mDP display, it was plug and play. I've used HDMI a bit on my TV too with no issues.

You may be able to overclock your internal display quite a bit, I think I read that someone even got theirs to 120.

Nope hadn't tried a different windows install yet. Running windows 8.1. Was so odd that it happened on two different monitors, two different manufacturers, two different resolutions. Laptop just has a heart attack whenever they were connected - both screens go black, fans start going at full speed, keyboard non responsive, etc.
