Review of MYTHLOGIC Pollux 1455 (Clevo W150HRM chassis)

After college, I wanted to buy a decently powerful, portable gaming laptop as I would like to still play games but have much less time. I settled on the Clevo W150HRM as the computer I wanted a month ago but I needed to choose a builder/reseller. I researched most of the resellers on this forum and eventually settled on MYTHLOGIC.

I was most impressed by their custom builds and their attention to detail. Most of all, I greatly appreciated how quickly and comprehensively they replied to my questions at a time when I had not purchased my computer. I did not personally contact any other resellers but I expect they would have given similar customer service. In the end, I chose MYTHLOGIC for their stellar reviews and their meticulous build and testing processes.

Anyway, I settled on the Pollux 1455 with these specifications:

    MYTHLOGIC Pollux 1455
    Intel Core i5-2540M
    nVidia GT 555m
    8 GB DDR3 1333 mhz RAM
95% Full HD Color Gamut Matte Screen
    640GB HD

First Impressions: When I first picked up the laptop, two things crossed my mind: it's remarkably light and remarkably sturdy. I think I was more surprised by the latter since I've heard that Clevo is about middle of the road when it comes to build quality.

Aesthetics: It has a very clean look with its black brushed "metal" appearance (though its plastic on the outside). Regardless, it is very well built with no flex in any area. The glossy screen back and bezel does not detract from the overall look and I rather like it. The MYTHLOGIC branding is limited to their name printed on the bottom right portion of the bezel, and it looks very good. Nothing too fancy.

The bottom has nice, high friction pads to elevate the laptop and which prevent it from slipping on my cooling pad. I was very happy they were included as I've previously been using folded pieces of paper to elevate my old notebook.

To be honest, this notebook has a very understated, sleek look which I think would make it equally suitable as a business laptop.

Keyboard: There was no discernible flex in any of the areas of the keyboard, or anywhere else on the laptop for that matter. The keys have good action but they do make a slight clacking noise which might upset some people. The layout is slightly odd, a little cramped on the left side but nothing terrible. I am also coming from a laptop with a similarly odd keyboard layout so I've been up to my normal 100 wpm after a day or so.

Touchpad: The touchpad is a very dry, matte surface. I like the feel of it but I can see it being quickly ruined by oil and wear. The few multitouch gestures I've used have worked decently.

The buttons are just decent. They feel a little cheap as they click differently in different spots and are overall, a little small. However, since I usually always use a proper mouse with laptops, this was not a problem for me. I have not tried the fingerprint reader yet but I will let you know when I do.

Screen Quality: The 95% color gamut matte screen is a beauty to behold. First of all, it is incredibly bright even at the dimmest options. Second, the colors are incredibly vibrant and there's impressive contrast. To be honest, I really think that the matte screen here is the better option. I feel that the matte screen is so impressive that the glossy screen might actually be inferior from the glare alone. I can't speak to the stock screen's capabilities but I do believe the upgraded screen is worth it for the price.

Cooling: The fans are not very noticeable until they shift to max. However, noise has never really bothered me so I suppose I am not a very good judge of such things. The fans were usually blowing decently hot air out even while under normal circumstances, which makes me very optimistic about the cooling (I'll post temps later). During light gaming, the air expelled was not burning hot, only reasonably hot. (I also had my Zalman-NC2000s on full rpm so that might have helped a little).

General Impressions: I am really enjoying this notebook. Currently, I am in the process of installing my games so I imagine I will be enjoying it more soon enough. The look, the keyboard, the screen, the service from MYTHLOGIC and the functionality have all exceeded my expectations.

Customer Service: To add to what I said before about their attention to detail, I also bought a Razer Abyssus mouse from them a few days after ordering the computer. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that they were kind enough to download the drivers for me in advance.

I have already talked a lot about my great experience with MYTHLOGIC's customer service. So I will leave it at this. I expect it will be just as superior if I ever need repairs or decide to upgrade any components. And because of this, I will certainly be buying my next laptop from them.

I will try to post pictures, information on battery life, sound quality, gaming capability, and temperatures at a later date when I have the time. I hope this helps anyone trying to decide to buy it or any computer from MYTHLOGIC.
