Nice thread.
About freakin time.
I will get this thread filled up shortly with M570TU/ETU related threads to help clean up the clutter. -
Well I might as well start this thread off with a little harware issue. I was sitting on my bed tonight, gaming on my M570TU, with fans on max, NC2000 cooler pumpin cool air, and enjoying Crysis Warhead at 1680x1050 Enthusiast 2x AA @ 30+fps, just thinking how wonderful and amazing Windows 7 is for gaming. I mean, a double in framerate, out of this world. Unfortunately, I was not monitoring my temperatures. Suddenly, my screen goes black for a second. Crap, I think; display driver stopped responding. But to my surprise, the game continued to run @ full throttle; only now the screen was interlaced and the colors all skeewumpus. So I immediately shut things down completely, wait a minute to cool, and hit the power button. ****e! POST was interlaced! I quickly reset the BIOS to default, but no go. Sadly, it seems I've fubared my video card. I've got an RMA to ship to Sager so they can take a look at it.
The overheating actually started happening a few months ago. Just last month, I re cleaned everything, and this time put down some OCZ Freeze thermal paste. And unfortunately, the temps still did not drop.
Lets hope for a brand new GPU. Perhaps with a new vBIOS. Will upload new vBIOS when I get the system back. -
you might not need to send in the entire notebook.
just ask them to cross-ship you another videocard. -
Well sadly, they want $799 to do that. Otherwise, I'd love to go that route. But those funds just aren't there ;(
And while I'm at it, I'm going to have them look at the following issues:
Removing the Creative Audio Xfi card causes the system to hard freeze. Drive usually has corruption when boot up happens. Very intermittent, but causes substantial file system damage.Had latest drivers from Creative. RMA'd one card to creative, second card does the same.
Power cable falls out of system extremely easily. The slightest movement can cause it to fall out.
Windows sounds a 'hardware plugged in' 'hardware removed' sound when moving system around. Very annoying. Might be related to BisonCam.
When using an e-Sata HDD, the system remains in post for up to 5 minutes. Plugging the drive in while in the OS, whether XP, Vista, or Win 7, causes the same delay, freezing the system until the device become recognized. RMA'd two drives before concluding the drives were fine. -
I noticed the hardware unplugged sounds when gaming, so the notebook wasn't moved (just still on it's stand) Can't figure out what hardware it is.
Power cable falls halfway out when moving a little bit, so recharging won't work. -
Yea the power cable is annoying.
-
According to another user on these forums, Sager has an improved power cable that they will ship out to you. Its built well enough that one has to have good intentions of removing the power.
-
-
From what I understand, it is free. Its a manufacture defect.
-
It must be a problem with Sager. My Eurocom power supply is snug.
-
I didn't pay any attention to whether the power supply I got back was the same one I sent out to Pro-star. -
Its quite possible they gave you a know one. Mine has a small scratch on a corner of it. Should see a new one when I get everything back.
-
Its free and a brand new brick. I'll snap a pic of it and show it to you once I hit 15 posts...that way I can actually link in an image, lmao.
I was the one who got it swapped out, its free and it does look like its a manu defect. The power cord going INTO the back of the CPU is too short, so it doesnt engage the locking pin. -
Ah yes, it was you, Roach. Thanks for injecting here. I shipped my old power brick back with my system in hopes that it will come back with a new one.
-
Now im sitting debating whether or not to install Win 7 or not. I have a 32 bit and a 64 bit distro downloaded for each of my laptops. Decisions, decisions.
Anyone want a copy? I have an extra key if you didn't snag one. -
Ive just installed Win7 Beta. Looks good and works fine.
But i cant find a driver for "Intel(R) ICH9M LPC Interface Controller - 2919"
*edit*
Fixed the Problem. Used R181761 form Dell. -
hey guys, i only get 9650 points in 3dmark06. with my t9600 dual core and a 9800mgtx. i though i would get at least 10.000n points. btw. im running windows vista ultimte 64 bit
total: 9646
sm2: 4433
sm3: 4063
cpu: 2539
all results are non oc. i dont wanna oc my notebook was too expensive
but is there anyway to get thos 10k id realy like to get a the 10k -
I alos have another Question. Is everyone else suffering with that windows vista ram score only 5.0 bug? its a pain in the to see 4 gb ddr3 only scoring 5.0 in vista scores.

very nice which bios do version do you have?
greetings flode -

Updating to the .09 BIOS did nothing for me, but the .10 BIOS took me to 5.9.
9.6k in 3DM06 is right for your hardware. You would need the X9100 to get over 10k without an OC.
You won't hurt anything by taking your clocks up to 600/1500/900. Those are very safe clocks. Especially if you don't overvolt. Its the overvolting that gets you in trouble. -
i'd like to give the new bios a try but seems to be realy hard to find the bios on the web i googled it but dindt find a good faq how to flash it ;/
-
oh my god! it ing worked. i now have a ram score 5.9 im so happy. thank you so much. the new .10 BIOS made my day.
if you suffering the low windows vista score ram problem try it. worked 4 me very well.
greetings from southern germany

Well... the scores doesn't matter at all. So I don't really care about things that don't matter.

Haha 11! YES!

Hey y'all. I just got my 5797 today, and it looks pretty impressive. But I have two questions. HwMonitor is showing the 9800gtx at an idle temp of 40c. Does this sound about right (couldn't find good idle figures through search)? Also, does anybody else feel like "silent mode" is actually louder than the normal mode? There's an annoying whine or something. Thanks guys...already learned a lot from you.
-
40C idle is fine, my 8800M GTX idles at 38C on a zalman NC2000
-
Yup, 40C is about right where it should be, appx 72F ambient.
-
hey thanks guys. Another issue I've run into is the speaker volume when playing a dvd. With the speakers and media player maxed out the sound is really pretty quiet. It's fine playing music and other stuff. Have you noticed this or know anything to try?
-
You have a couple of options to make that sound better. Set your Environment to Carpeted Hallway, and your Equalizer to Powerful.
You can experiment with the Volume Equalization function. Most of the time, it increased the volume, but sometimes, it does not.
That should get your sound back up to decent levels. -
Just got an email back from Sager regarding my repair (finally...) Looks like both the Mobo and the GPU were shot, so I'm getting a new mobo and gpu I inquired about getting a quad mobo before they put the new one in (Since the NP5796 was advertised as supporting quad), and they would not do so. I'm ok with this, as a trusted reseller here has tipped me off to a certain mobile i7 based lappy coming out later this year...
-
I forget, what are the safe OC specs for the CPU / GPU on this thing? -
to increase volume, you can also use VLC player, and set it to 200% volume, but the low volume is a known issue with this model

im still having problems with my esata hard drive and the m570tu ;(
hot plug works somehow: pc freezes for 20 seconds then the harddrives is working is recognized.
but after a few minutes it freezes again for about 3 minutes. seems to be working but not moving anydata.
before this happens my tool says the driver works with sata2 mode after the 3 minute freez it works with sata1 thats kind of strange and annoying!!
any1else having similar problems ?

^^^ Cool for you. Gay for me... Sager informed me that they can only replace the exact same motherboards, but the guy I talked to didn't sound like he know anything.
I've been more and more upset with Sager (Not Xotic) regarding their customer support. Its very outsourced feeling, and like I'm just a number to them. -
I'm suprised he didn't at least offer it to you for a small premium
-
Me too. I wonder if there is any way to physically tell what Mobo is in the system. I'm sure the model number or what not would be different.
-
there is usually a sticker on or near the RAM slots to tell you which motherboard version you have.
-
Thanks to everybody who helped out with ideas for the quiet speakers. Also mike, did you mention the eSata issue to sager while they had your laptop? Something like that systematically not working is ridiculous considering what these things cost, you know?
-
Hi emike, sorry for your notebook, I am trying not to get mine screwed altough is such a hard temptation.
Last week I experienced a lot with my GPU's clocks until I found the best stable ones ... that is no artifacts even at 80+ degrees. Also found out what you also wrote in a different post, that core:shader ratio must be maintained for stability (like on my GPU 610:1530 will give artifacts 610:1525 won't).
But the thing is I also experienced the same problem with the "driver stopped working" but in my case what seemed to solve the problem was the voltage. 0617 BIOS with v1 runs cool but seemed the GPU didn't have enough power and raising it to 1.05 solved the issue.
Also from my experience of GPU overclocking ... overclocking your memories is what will usually get your full GPU screwed.
By the way, if you get your hands on a new GPU VBIOS please share it .
PS And I still can't get the memories above 870 because they go beserk. Right now running them at 855. -
"Something like that systematically not working is ridiculous considering what these things cost, you know?"
you are absolutly right. it drives me mad everytime a think about having an external sata drive only making problems with my expensive notebook. -
Well I got my system back. Looks like I've got a new motherboard, and a new GPU. The GPU is using the same BIOS as the original, unfortunately. Was hoping for something a bit more powerful.
-
Since they are (basically) the same nbooks (Execpt for a few hardware differences), you could merge this w. the m57ru thread or something...
