    Thank you very much! Rep+1

So HT can you confirm that the not supported 3610 doesn't throttle under full gpu load while the supported 3612 does?

EDIT: The Prime temps look good, they are like 10c less than the 3610... ;)

Guess we have to try to hack that throttle out of there!!! Is your Notebook Sager or Clevo based, what does the bios revision say? 1.00.02RSA or 1.00.01/2 ?

That's good info. Maybe there's hope.

That's wprime, not prime95 Large FFT. I get similar wprime temps with 3610QM. I use Prime95 because it's stresses the CPU the most that I've found. CPU does throttle with Prime95 + Kombustor running. It bounces between 2.3 and 3.1 GHz. But I don't see that as an issue for gaming. Rarely will any game stress the CPU enough to run it at full load along with stressing GPU at full load.

Right HT, but they block Turbo while 650 is active with 3612 (read:no turbo at all), they don't do that on 3610, that's why your turbo works (at least going back and forth like we are used to).

Thanks, HeavenCry. And HT of course. This info (and there's quite a bit of it) is only going to be helpful as I decide if and when and what to get.

Please let us know how battery life is with the 3612 when you're able, HeavenCry. It doesn't sound too promising on that front though, does it?

I was just looking at one of those the other day to give me an idea of the size of the W110ER screen. Next time I'm at that store I'll check the device ID of that MBA 11.6 screen.

My predictions about the temps on a 35w cpu were accurate, around 6c-8c less. But it might be less at full load.

I don't think this will be different with the 35w ivy dual cores.

Great to see these reviews :).

It is me or it seems that these processors are underperforming under this machine? The cpu scores of 3dmark 06 don't seem right.. Don't get me wrong this offers GREAT performance for such a small size, but these processors are a little bit more powerful.

Bios version is 1.00.01 and EC 1.00.02.
Splash screen is of Style Note so i guess this came directly from Clevo.

Ill post my battery life measurments tomorrow.

Where are you getting 6c-8C less? I see 60-62C at idle, similar to the 3610QM and 92-94C at full load.

At full load (His load temps are lower). Also notice that he has not applied ICD. But well I don't think temps will be way too different.

That's wprime, not Prime95. I believe I get similar load temps with wprime on 3610qm. I'll post temps later with both this evening when I get back home.

Usually games are more GPU bound. Suppose we have a limited amount of heat dissipation then we need to allocate the resources to maximize performance. If we let them run unbounded we don't know if the gpu or cpu will win out since they each have a turbo mode. By doing what they are doing they are ensuring the gpu will win out.

You mean in terms of heat dissipation? Or resources in terms of bandwidth?

But that doesn't explain to me to lock the 3612 down and let the 3610 live.
Ok 3610 isn't officially supported but so far for me it looks like these are the same CPU's (if they really just picked the "best" ones to label as 35TDP).

I mean in that case probably 90% of the users would never need a turbo. Or is Office so demanding? :)

How do you get wprime to display the readout of the calculation once it's done? With 32M it takes like 10 seconds and then just jumps back to the main screen, 1024M takes a while longer but it looks like only the 32M was run which is hardly indicative of full load.

Thats right i just repeated runs of 32M one after another.
You can check the results from the main menu.
I can run OCCT or something like that tomorrow but i didnt have much time today so i just did the quickest tests i could.

I can. I just don't like Furmark because it's OpenGL and tends to run cooler than DirectX torture tests like Kombustor. Which in theory sounds good, but since 99% of games are DirectX

I know you can get the end results listed, but your screenshots show it saying "completed in xxxx seconds" which I can't bring up that detail once it's complete. In any case running 10 sec runs and 1 minute in Furmark really won't tell you much. You need to do Prime95 and/or Furmark/Kombustor for 10 minutes or more to get a realistic temperature reading.

Anandtech says the ID is "LTH116AT01A04", which a quick google says is a Samsung panel (couldn't find any detailed specs on the Samsung website though). It also seems that Apple uses LG LP116WH4 displays as well, which apparently is an eDP panel. So I'm confused. Maybe Apple switched from LVDS to eDP (or the other way around) sometime down the line?

A quick google brings up a lot of sellers selling LVDS cables for the macbook air, so I'm not quite sure what to think.

Anyway, here's a good list of all 11.6 panels currently in production. The AUO A116XW02 panel (350nit, matte, wide viewing angles, 72% gamut) looks particularly promising. edit: doesn't seem like a notebook panel though... Hmm.

I'm guessing the 3612QM is the CPU to get if you're going quad on this. Why did you get the 3610QM, HT? Cost?

Yes, cost. And based on the heat and power usage so far the 3612QM doesn't look much better than the 3610QM. Until we get a real battery life test we won't know for certain.

That's too bad though. I had high hopes for the 3612QM.

It doesn't look good at all...
I surely hope that those 10W of difference do some magic to the battery or else I'm pretty sure that the 3612QM is a waste of money.

    Don't disappoint me 3612QM, please :(

The 10w difference is for max tdp. The idle voltages are going to be similar between both processors so when doing the typical things that you do on battery, like web browsing, there won't be much of a difference.

Well, if nothing else, the 3612QM is supported by the mfg due to the TDP being in-spec, so we may see some stuff down the road.

Does anyone know what processors are on their "list" that get throttled while using the 650m? I wonder if the i5's would throttle as well.

Hello. I'm thinking of buying the Sager NP6110 but I still have some questions. As far as I now and according to the the review concerning this laptop the Ivy brdige Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz) a temperature of 85-90 degrees celcius is normal. But what's the expected temperature of the sandy bridge i5-2450M Processor ( 3MB L3 Cache, 2.50GHz - 3.1GHz) dual CPU? Am asking cuz i honestly hope that this beautiful machine will last at least 2 - 3 years and if the temperature diference between the i5 and i7 is signifinact i prefer to purchase the i5 (the logic being lower temperature longer life). Please answer my question in detail if possible. What is the battery life with the i5 CPU? Is it worth it to get the 750GB Seagate Momentus XT ST750LX003 7200RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 8GB Solid State Hybrid isntead of 500GB Seagate XT 7200RPM 500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) NCQ Hybrid (Serial-ATA II 300 - 32MB Cache) (diference in cash 65 USD)?
The options that I have postet are the only options avalible by the provider form whom I'am thinking of buying this laptop.
I'm thinking of buyin the laptop form lpc-digital. The adapter that they are providing is auto-switchable between 12W-220W, right cuz i'm from Europe.
I'm from Europe can you give me links or tell me all the providers of Clevo W110ER in Europe?
    Thank you for yout time!

    There - a 7:30 Prime95 (large FFTs, 8 threads) + Furmark run.
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting
Temperatures fully stabilize after the fan kicks in full at around 91C.

Tested battery life this morning (Browser test with five Firefox tabs refreshed in 1 minute intervals, using balanced power profile, brightness at 40%, wifi obviously on) and it held out 4 hours and 18 minutes before the infernal beeping started at 5% (sounded like a fire alarm).

I cannot comment on the i5's temperate as I do not have the NP6110, nor the i5 CPU. Shouldn't be too much different from the Ivy i7 :)

I would comment to say that the 750GB Seagate Momentus XT is SATA-III and therefore has faster speeds, not to forget the 8GB of cache ;)
Totally worth it if you ask me!! :D

    To your last question:

Check out my thread :) http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/652403-clevo-resellers-european-union-v1.html

    One of the few providers:

Take in mind PWNPC's offer the 3610QM, currently the 3612QM doesn't seem to offer much..

    Enjoy

Wait for Prema to remove the turbo limiter for it (i already sent him a Bios dump) and youll be in business ;).
And since its the same price as the 3610QM here in the EU it is a nice upgrade imo.

The 90W power brick is much smaller too :).

You have to know though such a test (full load on CPU+GPU with Prime95+Furmark) is not a realistic usage scenario. Nothing will put such load on the laptop so those temps are really something you shouldnt be so worried about (gaming doesnt heat it up that much, but even if it did 90C is still a decent temperature). The idle temps are so high due to the fact the fan doesnt even begin spinning before around 70C and it gets to 90C only becouse the fan doesnt kick into full gear before then. Im not sure why they made the EC act that way but i guess they think these temperatures are fine as they are and they just wanted to make the laptop as silent as they could.
But looking at 52C on the Momentus XT at full load and 46C in idle is worrying as HDDs arent designed to operate at such high temps. To anyone who is getting this laptop i suggest you buy it with an SSD.
The laptop is built and performs great, but i have to admit im still considering to return it as i just cant get used to its small size and small keys. I knew it would be smaller, but i just didnt imagine it would be this small...

I bought it at mySN. Again they use the imo ugly XMG stickers that are luckily easy to peel off if you want - due to the textured rubber they barely stick on at all (i didnt remove them yet though as im not sure if im keeping it).

The platter expansion is noticable at such high HDD temps so id be worried of the drives performance and longevity... How long do you have your M11x?

From what I recall of the google study on HD failure, it might actually help with the longevity to have it stay warm.

Good to hear. Just did another test today. I wasn't present when laptop shutdown and used the event viewer to determine shutdown time. This time I've got a batch file running that will give me shutdown time within one minute accuracy.

If the 3612QM can manage over 4 hours with that kind of load then there's hope for over 4.5 hours with some tuning.

Dang. 3.5 hours seems realistic for 3610QM. I'd much prefer to have over 4 closer to 4.5 without having to worry about it.

Maybe there's something wrong with my laptop or battery though considering other reports are showing over 4 hours without concern.

Hope we can get some more 3610QM feedback too just to make sure my system isn't an odd man out.

edit: just was thinking perhaps my SSD drains more power than I thought.

    62WHr/14W = 4.43 Hrs vs 62W/16WHr = 3.875 Hrs. That's about 30-40 minutes difference. 1W more SSD/HDD + coupled with a possibly more power consuming CPU, even 1W could make a difference.

Lets say I have 2x4 RAMs each running 1.5v

I take out both but insert 1 8 GB module 1,5V.That makes me gain almost an hour? (Based off your calcs, but it simply sounds too good to be true.)

+ If we consider that USB port can draw 5V of power..adding a cooler for instance drastically lowers battery life? Im sure things work a little bit different than dividing 64V into whats used.

Edit: My assumptions are probably way off from the topic.I am not really sure about what the 1.5V on the ram stands for in terms of W consumed.

I'm getting just over 4 hours with the 3610QM with a Intel 320 SSD which is one of the lower power draw ones. If you want to send me that batch file you used to log I'll give a try on getting more accurate numbers.

That's volts, not watts. More like about 0.3W-0.4W. It can make a difference in battery life, albeit minor, possibly 10 minutes or so. I did test on a netbook at one point, that drains only about 8W at idle, so an extra 0.3W can make a significant difference, like 20-25 minutes. At 15W, with 0.3W, you're only looking at 62/14.7 - 62/15 = 5 minutes.

It's nothing too fancy, just logs the time to a file every 60 seconds. I set up a task scheduler task to start the batch file 3 hours or so after I unplug. No reason to have it running for the first 3 hours or so. Then the last time logged is shut down time.

Just copy/paste into a notepad, name it batterytime.bat or something. Start up task scheduler and have it start the task about 3 hours or so after you unplug then it will start to log after you've unplugged. I put it in the C:\Temp folder. When you make the task manager make sure you set the "start in directory" parameter to the folder where you have this batch file.

    Code:
    :Loopit
    ECHO shutdown %date% %time% >> C:\temp\timestamp.log
    TIMEOUT 60
    GOTO Loopit
I also use Firefox with the add-in "ReloadEvery" and set one, two, three, or four tabs to refresh every 1-5 minutes. Try with just a single tab every 1 minute, balanced profile, just make sure to set it so screen doesn't dim or turn off or system doesn't hibernate or sleep.

Thanks for the info so far HT. I'm very, very close to pulling the trigger on this thing. I have one last question.

With that i7-3610QM, how do those temps look for the lifespan of this computer? They idle at 60C and hit the upper 80's and into the 90's ... how concerned should one be about this?

I'm not a lick concerned due to temperatures. I am more concerned about battery life and am starting to believe more an more that I may have a bum battery or even laptop. But I'll wait for some more info before I make that determination. Temperatures have improved actually, so I guess IC Diamond may take a little time to improve a bit. Propping up the back end of the laptop helps temperatures quite a bit at load too.

I am hoping Sager offers some fan temperature control. I'm ok if fan is on low at 50C and ramps up from there.

You didn't sound too happy about me stealing your computer names, so I might just name my W110ER "HTWingNut"
