Hello all so from my findings this is what I have found and understand.
The GPU side heatsink by default SUCKS ( due to utterly sh1t design not working with the fan profile that is default other than turbo mode FN+1)
Things I have tried
Liquid metal
Copper shim
Paperclip
Regular mx4 thermal compound
And last the heatsink from a p775dm3 ✓✓✓✓✓ THAT WORKS PERFECTLY
but I don't have a spare laying around so has anyone else come up with a fix to this ?
I'd even go as far as using software with this non unified heatsink to control the fan curve as you can fix this with brute force on the fan curve but I don't want to be constantly pushing FN+1 if I can manually program it to ramp up and down .

Remove the stock thermal pads as they too thick and prevent good heatsink contact. Use K5 Pro instead and you won't even need paper clip or shim to get good results with liquid metal.

i have ordered some more of the K5 used it before was fine before but even with out the thermal pads the heat gets up to 90 ..but is that due to the surrounding components heating up and contributing ?

Running without thermal pads is a bad idea, you can easily kill the VRMs.

Hello EVERYONE just a update on this
It was that the EC was the original EC that their unit with shipped with possibly back in 2017
And BIOS is the baked unlocked BIOS that I installed a few days ago..
Now thermals now are much better.
I did pile the K5 PRO on but this made no difference in the heat going to 91° ( just happy I know there is great conductivity between the components and the heatsink now )Attached Files:

87° sounds high but there is no cooler under the laptop and no signs of thermal throttling
My opinion is the heatsink is a very poor design if I could say it's under engendered . Never a good thing but still better than things like the Alienware 51 and razer blade type of products -

With tweaking of pads and TIM it should go lower.

This is using liquid metal on both the DIE and copper heatsink along with K5 Pro . The copper shim makes it no better .

That is pretty high for the model, some undervolting may help as it won't go above 87c normally but the clocks will go down gradually.

Hmm, that is a little high, what clocks and voltage are you running on the 1080?
Mine with an undervolt of 0.0975 @ 1600Mhz and kryonaut on the die with new thinner(-0,5mm) Pads and CoolerPad im getting after long sessions in witcher 3 on ultra a maximum of 76 C on normal profile with ObsidianFan. It is possible you have a warped heatsink. I had one on the CPU side, my delta between Cores was crazy because of the warp.
Did you try and elevate the laptop so the air flow is better? Also try and see how does perform with the backcover off. -

I see, I recommend you do an undervolt curve with the Afterburner, its a must on the 1080, it runs much cooler and quieter and its easy to setup. With the back cover off and my coolpad blowing air inside i got a -5 differnce in temps, thats why i am in the process of modding the cover, i cut the vents off with a dremmeltool.
Im going to try now a repaste with kryonaut extreme see how it performs and maybe in the sommer when ambient temp is higher im going to go with LM on it if i dont change it with an RTX CardDamin likes this. -

Oh that's the absolute voltage, I read it as -0.9v less than stock.
