this is appropriate place to ask some casual questions?
get the rant out of the way. just window shopping and still wondering why Clevo can't make a keyboard specifically for 17". smh.
wasn't clevo, or maybe resellers, offering more models with desktop cpu options? I am still rocking my signature and it's working great, even with a mobo replacement in early '18. Unless I missed something, only Clevo's most ridiculous DTR has a desk cpu and only model I noticed with a swappable battery, though for that lineage of DTR it's always been more of a UPS.
chances are I am going to a desktop build next computer but just curious if any of you nerds know what's coming down the pipeline soon? Clevo usually releases new models 1st or 2nd quarter of the year iirc. More AMD cpu offerings? what about AMD gpus? I still have to ask because Clevo/Sager has always offered what I wanted, it's just economics and being diagnosed with autism (asperger's) in your 40's changes your needs, wants and budget.
oh, I didn't think of this yet but I saw models that said embedded battery. so are some or all of these models still highly serviceable by user and can the battery still be easily swapped or is it under mobos or soldered?
thanks.

Clevo currently has two desktop CPU models, the Intel 10th gen based X170SM-G, and the Ryzen 3000 and 5000 (?) based NH5xAx.

Batteries are not soldered and can be replaced without specialist tools.

If price is a factor the desktop is always going to win.

I am actually quite eager to see what happens in the mobile/desktop space the next 3 years. ARM based laptops could be pseudo desktops in the near future depending on designs. imagine an express slot that actually had a use of future thunderbolt implementation to boost your gpu or just swap it out. it also wouldn't take much for Clevo or another ODM to start cracking on designs where you could just upgrade your "dumb" laptop every once in awhile with the latest SOC in the ARM motherboard socket that interfaces seamlessly with your storage, display, keyboard, touchpad, etc. I don't think it's that hard. kind of solves too many problems with price and repair so probably never see light of day from big company. -

An integrated into the CPU thunderbolt type solution could be very nice in future I agree. With a reduction in latency and nothing to compete on bandwidth.

I just got an X170SM-G labled as a Sky Z7 from Eurocom and I went with the single 780watt power adapter. It is very easy to upgrade and fast. I have always gone with 17 inch laptops, this clevo is about 2 inches deeper for the cooling than my Alienware from 8 years ago and the massive power brick is is about the same size as the Alienware 330watt power brick also.

The only problems being the fan and the lack of certifications for office use on the PSU.
Didn't Clevo have 2 or 3 models with desktop processors?
