I created this thread to talk about issues that we have with the unit and any fixes or tweaks that we can come up with to improve the performance of these machines. That is why, after all, that we bought these beasts....because we demand the utmost performance from our systems. I'll keep the 1st post here edited with any issues that we know of. Please feel free to post any problems/tweaks/things you like about your D901C as well and happy gaming!

    Top D901C News!

Just released Nvidia 8800GTX Cards for the D901C! Some resellers are now offering them!! Eurocom, Xotic, PcMicroworks to name a few. Scores will be posted when available. Yay us!!

Just confirmed by Xoticpc: 8800GTX's will require a motherboard revision. If you currently own a D901C then you'll have to get a new motherboard in order to install 8800GTX's in SLI!

    Motherboard Revisions to date: 2

How to get SLI Drivers to work: (Thanks to Grey728 for the info)!! (If your throwing Rep around throw it his way for figuring this out!)

    1. Download desired driver from www.laptopvideo2go.com (go into the forums for the absolute latest)
    2. Download .inf file that comes with driver.
    3. Uninstall your current driver and reboot.
    4. Unzip driver into a folder.
    5. Move .inf file into driver folder. This WILL overwrite a file. (Good thing)
    6. Install by selecting 'Setup'
Next step is important! as this caused me MANY black screens with no output!!
    7. Install 1 card only. When the driver asked you to install and you click 'Continue Anyway' Do this only once!
    8. Cancel install for second card. This cancels out install process
    9. Reboot
    10. GO to Devicde Manager, and select 2nd card that didn't install. (Most likely called 3D Hardware and not recognized as a video card, I can't remember exact name)
    11. Update driver and select folder you unpacked in step 4.
    12. When the driver installs, click "Continue Anyway"
    13. Reboot and done!

How to find out the info on your Graphics Cards. Find out if SLI is really enabled!!

Download and run GPU-Z!! Great little program!

Nvidia Drivers that work with mobile S.L.I.: More to come soon!!

    i got mine last week
    2.4Ghz
    2G 800Mhz ram
1 7950 GTX, i got vista so i'll upgrade later
    1 100Gb 7200 rpm HDD.

The think i enjoy the most about this is the user upgrade capabilites, and the fact that the same speed/quality custom laptops are 2x-3x more expensive

BTW, because i didn't order the installed media card can i install it later for the inputs?

You mean the TV Tuner? It's a Mini-PCI slot. It is user upgradeable. Or are you talking about the 7 in 1 card reader? I thought it was standard on all models?

For those of you with hard drives in raid 0 or 5, can you see a measurable performance increase or does it just "feel" faster overall. Notice any games loading faster or something along those lines?

Oh and for those with only 1 7950GTX and WUXGA can you comfortably play games at the highest resolution/setting?

This is not a known issue to either Clevo or Sager.

From Sager's senior engineer: "...no we do not have this delay issue...if there was a 1 minute delay it would be a major bug. Sager wouldn't be shipping the orders that way."

I can play 2142 on high with no problem, but i prefer Medium for online play, i.e. 64 player maps

I, yes, i meant the tuner, sorry for the confusion.

Is anyone here a retailer for parts?

This is what my reseller PCMicroworks is telling me Paladin44. They are currently the only ones offering (to the best of my knowledge) the Hitachi 7k200 drives. In a RAID 5 array the drives are causing a problem with the RAID controller. According to PCMicroworks it can take up to a minute and 1/2 for it to boot. Once it boots then there is no performance hit.

According to PCMicroworks they do not go through Sager....hence I imagine why Sager doesn't know about it. They told me that Clevo, as I posted and you quoted, WAS aware of the problem and that a fix for the bios should be release within the next month or so.

Just giving out the info I have Paladin44. If you have had no problems with the Hitachi 7k200's then I imagine that PCMicroworks would like to hear how it was solved.

Sager uses the Hitachi 200GB 7,200RPM hard drives as well, Hitachi is the only manufacturer that makes that size and speed drive at this time.

What the Sager engineer was trying to tell you without saying it bluntly is exactly what pyro9219 said bluntly in the other thread: "In my lifetime problems like you describe sound like a poorly created array.". Your reseller has a problem building it correctly and is trying to blame Clevo...

Sager would have no reason to tell a competitor what they are doing wrong would they?

Oh, and another little "story" they are telling you is that they buy directly from Clevo... If you do a little research you will see that they are way too small for Clevo to even know who they are much less deal directly with them.

Just a word to the wise...

You should ask Targacomputers if it will work. For that matter they should be able to sell it to you.

In the other thread (linked by Paladin44) I also updated to state that perhaps your reseller needs to try other BIOS revisions. That sort of issue is normally something that can be patched out by changing some of the hardware calls from the firmware.

As Paladin44 and I have said though, Why would they knowingly sell this DTR knowing it works, just not with the best drives on the market.

They fixed it pyro, thanks for the advice. Also one thing to watch for with these new 7k200 drives is that they come in 2 flavors. SATA 150 and SATA 300. Make sure that you get the SATA 300 ones when ordering with your D901C if you want maximum performance from them!

Glad to hear they got your system figured out :)

Please share what you can about your experience (maybe not the second you get it.. give yourself a week to get over the shiny "new-ness"). I'm lining up on getting one of these myself end of summer / fall if the DX10 cards ever make it into these machines. No rush though because my current system runs everything I care about at the moment.

I'm thinking about purchasing a sager 9260 as well. My only concern is that once the 8800M rolls will, can I upgrade it? if yes, then how can I purchase the individual 8800M card?

No one knows whether the NP9260 can be upgraded to a video card that does not exist yet.

There is no way to know what power or thermal requirements it will have, so until it has been released and tested we will have to wait to see if it will be upgradeable.

Anyone having issues with their BisonCam NB, Pro? In Vista 64 no problems works fine, in XP I get the dreaded yellow icon in Device Manager. I've tried a couple of different driver versions, the original being from the Clevo D901C drivers site. Anyone else?

Thanks for adding to the thread WuJen, I got my computer about a week ago and I freaking love the thing. It is my first laptop and it has really changed my mind about them, I can do all my 3d work and photo shop without any kind of lag at all.
    The only negatives are:
The keyboard is like half way up the frame so you kind of need to reach for it when you are typing.
Whenever i play DotA(WC3 mod) sometimes my computer will give me a blue screen of death saying that their is a memory error. I did some research and I found it was because of my driver so i tried to install a older one but it still does it. I am using Windows XP
If any of you guys can please link to me the driver you are using it would be great. Its really strange though because it only happens when i play DotA, not when i am playing CSS,WoW,Quake or doing maya rendering.
    Thanks,
    Craig

WUXGA+, E6700 cpu, (3) seagate 160gb SATA II Hard drives, 2 gb 800mhz ram, XP Home Edition, Dual 7950 GTX Sli, CDrom/DVD Player, Camera , Bluetooth, G/N wireless.

Purchased as Targa Raptor 60 from Charles at Targa Computer. Very fast (one day) assembly, ship and test turn around. Unfortunately, they don't have forum and customer to customer support groups. Don't know about service yet either. This thing has been solid.

We used Panda Software at work for the last two years due to Norton issues.
Never had a problem before, but it choked the Clevo. Just mentioning in case others might have the same problem. Dumped Panda and now using AVG with a Microsoft Firewall.

So can someone tell me if I have this straight? Both the 9260 and the 5790 have the MXM IV slots, right? Well I have seen the 5790 configurable with both the 8700gt and the 7950gtx, but I've only ever seen the 9260 configurable with the 7950gtx. So, is it possible to get the 9260 with dual 8700gt cards? Just in case someone was married to dx10, I mean.

I just ordered the D900c barebone from RJtech. Sitting at home is my 2gb 800mhz ram kit, E6600 and a 120gb 7200rpm Sata 300 hard drive. It is driving me insane that the hard drive shipped overnight ( supposed to be 3 day shipping ) and the laptop itself is taking forever. It is getting pretty hard to pass the time waiting for this monster to arrive.

I was wondering... I recently sold my sager 5720 ( which I loved BTW ) to my little sister. How much of a difference do you guys think I am gonna notice in games going from a 2.0 ghz Pentium M and a 7800GTX with 1 gb of ram to a E6600 a single 7950 and 2gb ram? I mainly play COD2 and Supreme Commander. Soon to be Bioshock as well.

I just got mine in 2 days ago, and so far, its been lovely.
But, I've got some weird stuff goings ons.
    (Copy/Pasted from other thread) :

I ordered 2x160's and a 250. I wanted the 160's in RAID0. WELL, what got shipped to me was a 160/160/250 RAID5 setup. I don't even know how that is possible- I thought ALL the drives had to be identical. Weirdest part- in 'My Computer', only one drive shows up, and its total capacity is 450GB. I think that means that its got the capacity of 3x160 drives. But wtf is with that? Also, I've been BSOD'ing somewhat often... like once every 4-5 hours.

    Any input?

Well, after being on the phone with powernotebooks for several short bouts, I'm trying to format the damn thing and get the RAID set up properly, but between the instruction book and tech support, nobody knows why it won't let me install windows. Right now, its getting a thorough re-formatting. Hopefully, that'll clear it up.

I got my little RAID diskette on floppy, but then it asks for the Intel Matrix blahblahblah in Drive A, and press enter when ready. Only Intel Matrix anything that tech support knows about is a 20MB driver thats installed after windows. So, thats why it won't let me install windows. Anybody have any clue?

    That is strange Hunter.

I've setup myself the RAID 0 config. Mine came with no OS. The only thing you need to do go accordingly to the manual.

Akile I'd just send it back to them and let them take care of it. It should have come setup properly. If it's not fixed after that then I'd RMA it and get my money back. Also make sure to make them pay for shipping both ways. Since it was their fault that the unit was not setup accordingly.

    Hunter,

Before you return it for repair I would suggest you try to install Vista first (Vista has all the required drivers) or another DVD with XP. It looks like it is an issue of the of the installation DVD's. It can happen that the installation DVD's don't have an image with all the lastest and greatest XP build and drivers.

I guess, if that is the case the only thing you would need to return will be the installation DVD.

Also, can you tell us how did you configure the RAID 0 with the Configuration Utility?

I have a question of my own for anyone who may answer:

Last weekend my system ran 24x2. Yesterday late night after disabling and enabling SLI on XP I had to reboot the system. On startup, when mounting HDD the drivers (I guess, it happened after the RAID configuration information is shown), the system sound gave me two beeps and stalled (no boot). I went to the BIOS setup, configured it to make a full HW on boot and saved. After this, the system booted perfectly.

According to your experience is this the prelude of problems to come? If it is how can I avoid it?

I'm probably going to get NP9260, except I'm getting the bare bone and putting my own stuff in. I was wondering if a E6850 would work properly in it. The only reason I have any doubts is that the CPUs from sager are all 1066mhz FSB and the E6850 has a 1333 FSB. Will it just not recognize the extra FSB but still run at the faster speed?

Thanks in advance for any help

I thought of the whole use a different install disk thing. I have a retail copy of XP Pro lying around, but the tech support guy said that the system likely wouldnt work at all unless it got the factory OS.

And I specifically got XP because of the no-SLI thing.

Well Vista now work with SLI. I have it on my machine and checking with NHance it shows SLI working. I still stand by my recommendation to RMA it.

    Wu,
"Well Vista now work with SLI"

Isn't this only for Vista 64 bits? If not where can I get the drivers for Vista 32 bits? I only have a copy of the last one.

    Hunter,

If that was the case I could have never installed my system. My d900c came with two DVD's. One with drivers for XP and another one with drivers for Vista 64. This, and no OS was pre-installed in the factory. I haven't ordered the OS as I already have a copy of both XP Professional and Vista 32 bits in the house (XP wasn't being used and Vista was in my tablet PC that got installed with the OS of my company, one Vista was liberated for my brand new toy).

Well, its XP Pro, SP1, from a few years ago.
So... I'm supposed to get a call from sager 6 minutes ago, which I'm waiting for, and I'll bring it up with them. I don't want to try right this minute because Sager support may want me to do something completely unrelated.

I only have vista 64 DF...I can't comment on the 32 bit version. But in x64 it is working.

I have small problem with my system,

I am using 32 bit vista ultimate operating system. And my problem happen when I use sleep or hibernate mode. My system boot up fine from those modes, but sometimes, after a while BSOD appear and my system restart.

Is any one having same problem ?
