I ordered my NP9280 i7 950 on May 5, 2009 and received it June 3, 2009 and mine only came with 3 fans only too (missing the second left small fan). This makes me wonder if the first batch of machine is installed properly or not. I would definitely appreciate it if I can to get an official answer from one the vendors here to confirm it. I mean if this is a installation mistake then this mistake is causing prolong overheating which jeopardize the longevity of the laptop; which is a huge issue for a lot of users.

PS - I ordered it through PCtorque but chose to do a pick up at Sager's California warehouse to save some time.

It should be. Unless you've ordered customization, the package should turn around and be reshipped out to you after inspection by XoticPC.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

    1) yes that memory will be compatible... won't really affect the overall performance of the notebook though

    2) the OC'ing in the D900F is not mature yet... no real OC'ing implemented yet... unless if you use software to do it.

    I haven't tried yet.

but there are a number of Intel x58 programs out there that will allow OC'ing through Windows...

I will probably start with Biostar’s T-Power 2 overclocking utility.
    ... then EVGA's E-LEET Tuning Utility
    ... and ECS's M.I.B. II utility

not sure if any of them will work, but worth trying. :)

The Sager NP9262 was better in my oppinion.. it had a desktop quad extreme paired with sli 9800gtx.. my NP9280 lacks the sli but its still good enough for me..

    Hehe, yap.

I pretty much only serve the web, enjoy movie and music, play counter strike on my laptop. So currently looking between Asus's G71, SXPS 16 and Sager 9280.I hate the idea of the budget mobile quad on the Asus, despite the decent dual lamp screen, I pbly wont get it.

So I've set my eyes on either 9280, or maybe Dell SXPS 16+4670. Graphic wise I dont need much, either 4670 or 280m GTX would do nicely. Though having a desktop quad would still be sweet. Kinda difficult position, cos SXPS has an awesome screen from what I hear, and I really like the expansion possibility of 9280. Used to do tonnes of image editing, in which case, 9280 would excel in, but kinda lost that interest, given that I also will start uni in the summer, just imagine carrying around 9280 lol...

Things like the RGB-LED display and backlit key, as well as a lighter power brick sway me towards the dell. :) Shall see... though back to a Thinkpad T41 for now... (Intel PM 1.6, 768mb RAM, 40GB hdd, ATI 7500MR) :D

AW/d900f/9850...but if the d900f has over clocking, then i may just grab that and call it a day. you can over clock a 920 to like 3.6 to 3.8 without changing the voltage.

If you can OC a d0 rev 920 (2.66ghz) without voltage change, then it isn't an issue.

I think the question is how much it can be OC. I mean here AC adapter, ram and heat limitations.

Wondering how many 9280's owners are here. Still not much we know about this unit.

    stock is 130W
but seriously though...what is it your trying to get at? 99 percent want over clocking...and you on the other hand are talking about heat and watt's..we personaly don't really care abut that stuff till they say it's over clock able...then...we might think about that stuff then. :)

I know, but i.e. here you can find that power consumption for 920 in idle is 149W and for stress 264W. So im wondering how this works in 9280. Is this limited somehow? Is the clock lowering to fit 130W?

some how...i think you may have missed a thing or two...

With a TDP of 130W the peak power consumption of the Core i7 is a little high, and that shows when we start to stress the four CPU cores. Overall IDLE consumption however is pretty nice. The i7 will clock down towards 1600 MHz, differing per processor. Preserving a lot of energy.

The cnet review of the D900F here: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/avadirect-clevo-d900f-core/4505-3121_7-33682128.html

They make a note of the constant din of the fans. I'll be curious to see how the fan noise ranks compared to other notebooks. While I'm glad it doesn't match the bazooka that was the M17/Flex 840, I wonder if it is as quiet as the NP9262 under load? I guess it would be wishful thinking for it to be as quiet as the GX720/1722 and its one fan. ;)

I ordered from PCTorque on June 1.
They told me it would be "10 business days" to receive the machine and are now advertising shipment in "about 7 days," but clearly, they are at the mercy of Clevo on when they can get their orders filled so there's really no telling.
Needless to say, it is a painful wait no matter how long :)

Ordered mine on June 8th from xoticpc. The last communique I received was on June 24th saying that the shipments had unexpectedly become a 2 part shipment from Clevo--with the next batch expected in 5 - 7 business days.

They say patience is a virtue--but I'm not so sure.... :p

Mine is out for delivery today, pre-ordered it from xotic 5/22, but I told them I was in no hurry as I wanted the 975 CPU, and the slightly faster RAM.

I get to mess with it only the weekend though, as I travel Monday-Thursday :(
