    I have a new System76 gazp9 laptop which is a rebranded W650SZ.
It came with a Intel 525 mSATA SSD (240GB) and a 1TB conventional HDD.

The problem is that the mSATA SSD is getting way to hot. During normal operation (web browsing and light office work in LibreOffice) the temperature of the SSD goes all the way up to 70 degrees C. During slightly heavier work it goes all the way up to 85 degrees C. Intel specifications claim that the maximum operating temperature is 70 degrees C, so it is operating outside the specifications.
From another W650SZ owner I got the information that his Crucial M4 mSATA drive is getting just as hot.

Is there something wrong with the chassis design which causes it to be not really suited to use mSATA drives or is there another problem?

Are there other W650SZ owners out there with a mSATA drive installed as main operating system drive and could you post the temperatures for those drives and which OS you are using?

I am running Ubuntu 13.04 on my W650SZ.

Hi, I have the exact same problem. Did you manage to solve yours?
I think that the problem is the location of the disk but I can't be certain of that.

Having the exact same problem with my Intel 525 120GB drive. Currently sits at around 70º. Intel SSD toolbox doesn't complain or accuse any issue. I really hope it is a S.M.A.R.T. firmware issue that reports the temperature wrong or something. Otherwise it is hotter than any other component I have on my P150EM.
