So I purchased a Clevo W110ER a while back. i7 processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB "hybrid" hard drive, etc. Well, the screen hinges (as I've found by Googling) are a bit finicky, and most recently my right hinge started clicking/popping when I open up my laptop. I'm not really using this for gaming, just an intense "word processing" type program (I'm a court reporter and use it with my reporting software and to send out real-time transcripts, which is basically like the closed captioning you see on TV when you hit the wrong button, usually just in the deposition room but sometimes over the internet....it can get pretty taxing on a system, so I decided to look for a "gaming" laptop in a small form factor and...bam, Clevo w110er.

Anyway, I'm trying to get out in front of this hinge issue before it reaches it's inevitable breaking point (quite literally) and I just can't find where I'd get a replacement hinge (the LCDs themselves are plentiful, but I can't find a good parts seller for this model).

The only thing I don't love about the laptop aside from the hinge issue is the thickness, and I'm wondering if I couldn't just swap out the guts of this laptop into a laptop whose form factor I might like a bit more (the NP2740 to be specific), but I haven't a clue if that's possible (to put the motherboard, HD, RAM, et cetera, into another chassis. If so, where would I buy just the laptop chassis (and screen)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated (both on the swap question or if anyone has had similar hing creaking/snap/crackle/popping issues....

    Thanks.

Chassis may be found from sites like RJTech in barebones configurations. But I would quicker say see if it's possible to lubricate it or something first? I can't say I know exactly what the problem looks like or how to fix it, but that's all I can think of that might help. I hope you get it sorted out. It always sucks when a machine develops issues like that outside of warranty. If it costs anywhere in the vicinity of $600+ to get it replaced, however, I'd suggest a new W230SS or something. They appear to be pretty sturdy machines.

The ram, cpu and storage could in theory be moved but the system would need to accept the same generation cpu and 1.5v ram. It's not simple for someone who is not experienced.

    Thanks, guys.

Well, crap. So how about fixing the hinge when it finally goes? Where might I find a replacement? I'm having a tough time finding anything other than the LCD screen when I do searches.

    TIA
