I just received this laptop with an 8700 CPU but I didn't realize that the iGPU would be completely disabled. Does anyone know if there is any way to get around this, hardware modification etc.?

I knew the laptop supported GSync but I didn't realize that meant that the iGPU was completely disabled, I just naiivly assumed would be able to access it as I have done previously on all my other non GSync laptops. Am I the only person who thinks its odd to sell a top spec laptop with a significant part not working?

I use the iGPU for quick sync hardware encoding/decoding and I guess others must do this as well. Is this just a choice by Clevo on this model or do they do this on all there GSync laptops?

This is the trade-off with a gsync enabled monitor. You can't use the igpu without a physical switch. Most laptop companies don't do that. Sager figures since your using a desktop class processor you don't really care for battery life and give u gsync instead. You would have needed to get the laptops w the mobile versions to have the option to use Optimus.

I think your out of luck unless there's an option in the bios, but I doubt it.

That's annoying, I would not have expected going for a desktop CPU would reduce functionality over the mobile one. This also means that I loose and OpenCL device as well.

I guess the capacity for the switch is not present in the mobo, that is the hardware can't easily be modified to enable the iGPU?

For Optimus to work the display has to be connected to the Intel igpu at all times. When you game, the Nvidia dgpu runs as a co processor to render frames and then passes it on to the igpu to output to the screen. There's a slight performance hit due to the extra handoff, but you have the ability to shut off the dgpu when not needed. Intel's igpu used to be limited to 60hz refresh too. Not sure if that has been updated w 120hz screens. In order to get gsync to work the laptop screen has to be directly wired to the Nvidia dgpu. This prevents you from using the igpu without a physical switch somehow. Some laptops used to allow u to reboot and swap in bios and then reboot the machine. Frustrating right? I'm hitting this dilemma now. I want to upgrade to a new machine but like the Optimus tech. All the new machines come with a sexy 120hz screen but Optimus used to be limited to 60hz max. I don't know if that's still true. I'm trying to find out. I also like the variable clock speed on the mobile cpu compared to the limited stepping on the desktop class processor.

Thanks do you know why they completely disable it, I mean on a desktop you would still be able to see and access (encode/decode video and/or run OpenC on ) the iGPU as a hardware accelerator, even if you don't want a display output and connect your monitor to the Nvidia GPU? Is it a cheaper way of designing things on a mobile platform?

I'm honestly not sure. Theoretically you should be able to. You need one of the clevo gurus to answer this. It's possible me that a bios mod could give u the ability to enable the igpu. Then u could use it like u want.

Thanks for your help. Do you know if all GSync laptops without a hardware switch will have the igpu disabled or if it is just GSync laptops with desktop CPU's, I can't figure out how to tell when looking at laptops online as it doesn't seem to say?

I'd write an email directly to the sales or tech support and ask. It's probably the only way to find out. Your asking for a rare option that won't be advertised.

Only P7xx and P8xx will do.

No chance as the motherboard does not even carry power phases for the iGPU.

Not even mod wires can get round that.
