validated at 5.2 Ghz (havent properly tested 5.3 yet), 4.7 ghz stable, 4.8 ghz throttling, 4.9 ghz system crash in continuous CB15 load (loop)
funny thing about this: thermals are never an issue looks like my VRMs just crap out on me / overheat once i reach about 150W package. will have to look into my thermal pad placement, maybe stack some fujipoly onto the mosfets and see if that helps any.
also still dialing in voltages for proper stability.
but hey, a 15 incher from 2015 can keep up with a 9900k at stock clocks, not too shabby id say!

so after checking the service manual i now know that the 4 phases on my mobo can handle 120A max. at roughly 1.2V, so around 145W max. TDP package. i was never able to reach those wattages on my 7700K, always hit thermal limit at around 125W haha. but yeah, ill definitely need to focus on keeping those VRMs as cool as possible...and use the PremaMod to limit my amperage to 120, no need to overstress those poor little phases
btw, i know that intel xtu aint that popular here, but: anyone noticed that the newest version 6.4.1.25 actually offers a PER CORE CLOCKING FEATURE???

so far, we were only able to set clocks at one core load, two core load, three core load, etc. but we couldnt define WHICH cores were used for that.
with per core clocking u can do the following (which is also my plan):
- first determine the lowest Vcore at a given frequency that is still stable and inside thermal / amperage limits for all-core boost (in my case this looks to be around 4.7 Ghz with an offset of -125 mV, specific VCore at load to follow)
- now that all-core clocks and VCore (offset) is set, choose a specific core, i.e. "Core 0" and check what the max. clock is that it can reach stable at the previously set Vcore
- check Cores 0 to 7 (in case of 9900K) for their respective max OC capability at the given VCore offset
- Choose best Core for one core boost clocks, then the best and second best for two core boost, etc.
that way you're able to bin each individual core of your cpu and squeeze out every last bit of performance -

there "could" potentially be two options to test that: either running a single thread benchmark (i.e. prime95 executed on 1 core only) or manually deactivating cores in the bios and fully stress the leftover cores.
not sure if option two would allow to select which cores to disable though, need to check that. also, should be interesting to see how windows 10 runs on a single core, albeit clocked pretty highCedricFP likes this. -

@jaybee83 nice job on getting the vrm temps down. I'm penciling that one away for the future as I'm considering a 751TM-R as an upgrade.
What kind of temps are you seeing on your 9900k, if you don't mind? Delidded / LMed? -
ive raised the tjmax to 115C to get more headroom and at 4.6 ghz all cores im getting peak temps of 93-97C in realbench stress testing. thats with a delid, conductonaut below the ihs, kryonaut on top, a Vcore offset of -115mV and a highly binned cpu so basically this is best case scenario for a 9900k in a DM1 laptop

im currently finetuning the amperage limit values in the bios. in the long run i dont want my machine constantly shutting off when the VRMs reach their power limit, that wont do their health any good. at the same time i dont want any power headroom to be left on the table so im testing to see which bios values give me the max power allowance without the system shutting off. ive currently narrowed it down to a range of 125-130A.
theres also still the option to undervolt the igpu and uncore/system agent to make room for more power on the cpu VRMs. however, id like to save the latter for last since that could potentially hinder my ram overclocking abilities. so will have to find a good compromise between the two

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to get my new spanking TM-R set up and have downloaded and installed the bloatware free OS from ultraMale. But I lost about some of the things in there.which he describes here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-cpu-and-gtx1070-80-gpu.816154/#post-10718834 . Would appreciate it if someone could enlighten me.
1. He says there is a great new 'search' built in which does search from start. Earlier I used to just click 'WIN" key and start typing my search term. Right now typing like that nothing happens. What am I missing
2. The windows updater is still enabled on the system. Is this required or should I forego this and if so how to do it ? More importantly will these updates REinstall somethings like spying and telemetry that are not present in the system ?
3. I still see windows defender firewall. in the system. Is this 'defender' version to be removed / replaced by some other firewall/setting ?
4. I installed the fingerprint scanner but cannot seem to find it anywhere. There is nothing 'synaptic' in the system tray nor something in the 'installed applications' . What should I be looking for ?
5. Windows automatically installed nvidia 2080gtx drivers but I don't see the nvidia desktop show up when rightclick on the the destop wallpaper. My worry is if I download something more from nvidia apart from the drivers (which are already there), it will also download more spying software which I don't want.
Can someone help / point me to more detailed help for the above.

I meant that the VRMs are a problem long before needing more power is a problem in terms of getting more performance out of that 9900k/980m setup.
Edit: I'm mostly curious about how far people are getting with the current standard 330W power adapters, vs the 780W options others are looking into.jaybee83 likes this. -

330W psu should be fine even when everything is overclocked so no worries on that front. the cpu VRMs actually keep me from reaching any wattages that would come close to the 330W psu's tripping point similarly, since my machine does not provide an external gpu power connector, the mxm slot power delivery limits the wattage i can reach on the gpu side as well.

Considering that mxm (the design of the actual slot) was designed around 75w like the desktop the slot does pretty well considering.

so if the mxm slot is only engineered for 75W, how can it possibly take a 980M at 125W stock and 150W overclocked without any issues? u cant tell me that engineers were like "meh, whatevs, let beat the crap out of it for the funsies!" designing 100W+ cards for years on end for a 75W slot....?

Some benchmarks on the eurocom site with 9700k and RTX 2080. I looked up the Firestrike ID in particular, and it looks to be reaching a graphics score (26k) just short of what the handful of users reporting are showing for the P775 (~27k+). Also TimeSpy. Lower core clock achieved? Really unfortunate that the notebook RTX categories doesn't seem to be working still so it's hard to compare.
Physics scores are a bit less than the expected value for a 9700k, I think, but I have no idea if that's still good for a laptop.
I think my takeaway is that the P75x chassis isn't throttling nearly as much as I thought it would with the new heatsinks. But it's still a 15.6" laptop.
Note that it doesn't say what kind of tweaking they might have done. I assume it's with their unlocked bios... can someone more adept at this see signs of the usual Clevo bios power limits?

Also perusing vendors, I see this coming up as the P750TM-G1/2/3 (Sager NP9156-G1/2/3).
Given the thermal challenges, I'm wondering why most vendors seem to be offering only 9th gen CPUs (9600k/9700k/9900k) as part of their configurations. Why no 8700k? Does the heatsink not fit or something? -
