So just ordered a Sager NP7358 (Clevo W350SS) and I need some help figuring out how to add a SSD. Opted to do it myself because the crucial drive they offer is poorly rated and the Samsung evo is 2x the price as on Amazon.

    So my questions
1.) I see it says there are 2x 2.5" HD slots, does that mean I will be able to pop an extra drive into one of these of I opt not to have them do it, or will I need to convert the optical drive using a caddy?

2.) What kind of connection should I look for? Is msata equivalent to sata? Is one better than other?

3.) Any other particular settings to keep in mind when selecting a drive? These are the two I am considering currently:
    A.) Samsung http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E3W15P0/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1402714060&sr=8-2
    B.) Cheaper PNY XLR8 SATA 120GB 6Gbps 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SSD9SC120GMDF-RB:Amazon:Electronics

    Thanks!

Resellers don't block unused ports that I am aware of.

I suggest you read up msata vs SATA for the drives you are looking at (different devices), they should all be gen3.

There are 2x mSATA and 1x 2.5" SATA in the W230SS. The latest drives have similar performance of the same drives in the two form factors. Personally I would opt for a 240GB to 256GB SSD for your OS and apps because 256GB drives typically are faster than the 120-128GB drives.

OK thank you for the info.

So in terms of whether the SSD or 7200 rpm drive should be on the sata slot, you are saying it doesn't matter?

Should I order a drive with sata or msata connectivity? Or do they all come with both options? Do I need to order a msata/sata cable too or do the drives plug directly into the board?

Thanks for the help and sorry for the noob questions!

Since the NP7358 has 2 SATA bays you can put both the SSD and HDD in there. You also will have an open mSATA slot. As mentioned, be aware mSATA and a 2.5" SSD drive are different form factors and go into different slots. Be sure to order accordingly.

You do not need to order a cable, they will plug directly into the board.
