No, like I was saying before the release it does not make the current models obsolete. There are improvements but they are incremental. Nice to have but not required.

Does the P750DM Supports Optimus? (I hope not...)
-
It does not and never will (the desktop chipset does not support it) -
I am anxious for you find someone to let you help them OC to a stable OC, and then run a range of benchmarks, and then see if TS / XTU can help it get further. -

That "jokebook" is one of many laptops that will come with the 6820HK that won't be able to go much past 4ghz, due to power / thermal limitations. It will again be the exception to find a good home for a high end CPU so it can really stretch it's legs.
Any bites on your offer for testing the 6820HK?
Do any vendors want to offer up a sample to test with D2 Ultima? -
6820HK machines will be in user hands soon enough, so im not worrying about D2 being able to find sufficient test subjects

maybe one of the xotic guys could answer that for us. if i wanted to use the 4G slot would i need to make any modifications to the rig? ie additional antenna etc?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You need the m.2 card and antennae along with the slot on the motherboard for the sim.
-
Is the screen acceptable? I have heard some bad things about Samsung 4K screens.
-
I removed the Nvidia graphics card and could not even POST. Is that normal? There's so few BIOS settings and none of them seemed on point, so I didn't troubleshoot it much. Are these laptops known to require a graphics card?

Yeah, I spoke with a Sager representative earlier, and he confirmed that the new screens are 60 Hertz. However, I was wondering more about color reproduction--yellows in particular. Also, someone seemed to think that PLS screens had a lower effective resolution for some reason.

Such a shame to lose 16 PCIE lanes to graphics I couldn't care less about, especially since the GPU is the main improvement in Skylake. Plus those drivers add to the possible linux issues.
Does anyone make laptops with an i7-6700k and only on-board graphics? -
not in laptops, at least not yet. the closest thing to that would be a muxed machine with a 6820HK...
besides, even with those 16 lanes for the gpu u still have more than enough lanes left with the skylake chipsets

Yes 20x gen 3 lanes (max 4x bandwidth in total at any one time) these are gaming machines/workstations so the gpus will be there.

HTWingNut or other Sager 9758 owners/reviewers, what is your opinion of (a) the color reproduction (yellows especially), brightness, and clarity of screen, and (b) the keyboard quality? I am thinking about buying one, and I would like your opinion. Some numbers for the first one would also be nice, if you have them.

Sorry, I though it was a Samsung display, and PLS. That's was listed on some reseller website, maybe Xotic PC. Is that not correct? Are you perhaps talking about the 1080p screen?
Edit: From your tagline, it looks like you have the ZM. I think the most recent one is DM. Anyway, I'm looking more for information on the most recent ones, with the 4K display. -
aside from a few updates, the screens havent changed much across ZM/DM models

Oh, which model was the display that ASUS used? Was it a Samsung 4K screen, and if so, is the one in the 9758 a different model? What is the model number of the screen in the 9758, vs the one that ASUS used?
-
Panelook.com only lists one 4k Samsung panel.

I finally got Win10 and Ubuntu booting off their own SM951 drives, but to do so I had to cut RAM down to 16GBs. After testing both OSes and re-booting multiple times, I brought the RAM back up to 32GBs, and immediately got Windows boot errors; Ubuntu seemed fine....ugh!
Does that make sense to anyone, other than it being another windows fail.Last edited: Oct 24, 2015 -
I think that only leaves 4 lanes (20 total), and the M2 SSDs consume 4 each. That puts me at 4 over for a total of 24 lanes. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
16 CPU + 20 chipset = 36 total.
The only caveat i mentioned is the total throughput from the 20 chipset lanes can't exceed around 3.6GB/sec.jaybee83 likes this. -
Pl0x! Pl0x! I'm a newbie, as you can see from my mini-profile. Does anyone know how to get HTWingNut or someone else with a Sager NP9758 to answer these questions: What is the color reproduction (yellows especially), brightness, and clarity of the screen on the NP9758, and how is the the keyboard quality? This would be nice to know before I buy. Also, does anyone know the model number of the NP9758 screen? How does it differ from the 48 Hz screens we were seeing a while back?
-
EDIT: I should say that some small text (rather than icons) don't appear as sharp as the Alienware UHD screen.Last edited: Oct 26, 2015 -
Do you know the model number? You can use get-edid | parse-edid from the read-edid package if you have Linux, or the application DumpEDID from Nirsoft if you have Windows. This will provide a ton of panel information. Also, is the keyboard fairly solid? Does it lie flat (i.e. no bulges)?
-
I ran the DumpEDID and it showed the following info about the screen:
Registry Key : DISPLAY\SDC434B\[...]
Manufacture Week : 0 / 2014
ManufacturerID : 33612 (0x834C)
ProductID : 17227 (0x434B)
Serial Number (Numeric) : 0 (0x00000000)
EDID Version : 1.3
Display Gamma : 2.20
Maximum Image Size : 34 X 19 cm (15.3 Inch)
Maximum Resolution : 3840 X 2160
Support Standby Mode : Yes
Support Suspend Mode : Yes
Support Low-Power Mode : Yes
Support Default GTF : No
Digital : Yes
Supported Display Modes :
3840 X 2160 60 Hz
It seems the info is not as complete as desired. I did a google on the "SDC434B" and there are a few hits on some Samsung screens, but may not be specific enough for your purposes.
As far as the keyboard, it is very sturdy and very solid, minimal if any flex - it is flat.Last edited: Oct 26, 2015 -

The listed average brightness is 270 nits. Is that what you are getting? If you have an Android device, you could measure it with the Physics Toolbox Light Sensor app, in a dark room with the phone screen on dim and the laptop screen on max.

I didn't know such an app existed for android. That actually could be pretty useful. thanks for that one!

yupyup, same here, very interested in that app, should come in very handy

I have ordered the p750dm from schenker with one 256GB Samsung 951 PCI-E m2 & one 512GB Samsung 951 PCI-E m2.,
Today the mailed me and told me that there is a compatability issue with that model which prevents from using two PCI-E SSDs together.
Anyone knows anything about this? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Are you sure they meant that exactly? One of the selling points is that you can raid two PCI-E devices together for instance (an option you did not select due to the different sizes I assume?)
-
ADDENDUM:
Sorry, I'm an idiot, just looked at the website and I was using the camera rather than the light sensor on the phone. Will give it another attempt later.Last edited: Oct 29, 2015 -
I gave the Physics Toolbox Light Sensor app another shot and was getting ~340 lux in the center, ~360 on the left side, and 290's the right side. If 3.14 lux = 1 pi lux = 1 nit, that would still be only ~108 nits in the center, ~114 on the left and ~92 nits on the right side. This does not seem right as the screen appears plenty bright to my eyes. I tested on a blank white browser window, full brightness, dark room, phone on dim measuring about 3-5 cm away from the screen. Hope this helps; this may be more useful if someone else were to give it a shot as well on this Samsung QHD screen (if anyone else has this model).
-
I think I made a bit of a mistake. Lux are candelas times steradians per square meter. Nits are candelas per square meter. So you may need to take solid angle into account.
-
Another thing which bothers me is the 951 getting hot issue with no ventilation with those cases. -
