If you intend on actually replacing chips or lifting them off get it done properly.

I want to add more SSD space to my np8652, but both internal SATA slots are already full. (An SSD plus a mechanical drive).

What do I need to know about using the M.2 slot for SSD drive?

I tried to read online about m2 but I got lost: the slots are keyed ? Max length ? Will it boot from the m2 ?

Some discussion earlier in this thread that using the m.2 slot disables / interferes with some other slots or internal SATA?

    Thinking of this:
Sandisk X400 Solid State Drive - Internal (SD8SN8U-512G-1122)

M.2 sata drive like this will be fine.. You won't disable anything.. You can use up to 2 of these drives with no penalty on speeds etc..

The X400 is totally fine :) The max storage speed on this machine is 1.75GB/sec (at any one moment), that's the only limit so plenty of room to spare.

The P650SG? It's been phased out. Maybe a private seller (buy used).
