No I didn't change the scaling. I never did on my 8268 and it looked fantastic. I'll give it a try though. I guess I'm picky since my main desktop has an ips display.

I'm going to upgrade the screen within the next week, with the same on mytholgic uses (the one that starts with BH... ) which won't even void the warranty :)

I just don't get why they would go with such average ( some would argue below average ) stock TN screen .
Sure you save a few pennies but risk alienating customers who expect a much better screen, I'm really surprised more US resellers do not have options for 1080p IPS screens. I would like to avoid getting the 3K/4K screens but that seems like the best way to go if you want a good screen.
To tell you the truth the screen is the only thing holding me back from ordering,

I bet compared to an IPS u would be....

To me the screen is the interface to the amazing machine... Why not make it beautiful for only ~100 more? Its the only component you will constantly be staring at...

I am also very particular about my mouse and keyboard... As these are also the features that you actually interact with. I don't mind spending 70 dollars on a mouse. If it makes my experience better... Its the thing I have to use daily why not make it great!

I agree. It'd be fine if they offered an optional screen for more cost, but they don't.

Does anyone know what screens can replace the 1080p one, and where to get one? I'm concerned they won't have the curved edges though. :/

Haha the screen doesn't have that dimensionality to it like the chassis does. The screen is just a 16:9 rectangle, and there are a variety of models you can go with. I went with the B156HAN01.2 Panel.

Oh yea there is definitely a noticeable difference. I'm really interested in seeing a teardown of the LCD assembly to ascertain whether or not I'm comfortable doing it myself and maybe a list of good sites to buy from that sell the model and not compatibles

Is there an overall consensus on what screen is "best" as a replacement? After seeing prices listed here, I'm feeling more comfortable with trying to swap it out myself. A guide would be helpful of course ;).

Just ordered the Metabox P650 SE (Metabox is an Australian version of Clevo).
Was originally leaning towards the P35W v3 but due to some of the problems people have been having and the nice price drop i switched at the last minute.
Interestingly the Metabox version comes with IPS screen standard which seems to be the only problem people have with this laptop.
Should have it in about 5 days, seems so far away.

    Better link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JMM89NC

Yes, that is a pretty good IPS screen that should fit this system.

You should probably ask the seller before you order to make sure you'll receive that exact part number. Some of these places deliver "compatible" screens instead.

Thanks a lot for the review Htwingnut. I was wondering if you could test the microphone on the P650, to see if its decent, so that I know if another mic will be essential or not.

It's just the exterior finish that is modified between those two versions. IPS or TN depends on the resellers P651 or P650

Depending on your reseller, if they had an IPS display for the P650SE there is a better chance that they will also have it for the P650SG.

    At the p651se the seller said "15.6”(39.62cm) FHD non-glare matte (1920x1080) 16:9 panel, 3.5mm"
    I think is tn.

How the heck are your temps during 3D Mark so low?

My P650 hits high 80sC to low 90sC in 3D Mark 2013. All other reviews I have seen (XoticPC, Notebookcheck, etc.) reach similar numbers...

Repaste and prop it up in the back slightly.

Here's video of the run. I accelerated the 3DMark Test so you wouldn't have to sit through the whole thing. I do have the back propped up with bottle caps about 1/4 inch is all.

My Samsung LTN156HL01-102 LCD I ordered from eBay (China) is in Chicago Post Office Customs yesterday! Hopefully it will make it's way over here to the Detroit area in the next couple of days! :)

Thanks to Dabeer for pointing me in the right direction!

Woo hoo! Glad to be of service! Here I thought I'd be able to help everyone out by being one of the first to do the screen swap, and by creating a how-to, but by the time I get mine back from RMA and get a chance to do it, everyone else will already have it done :( Oh well, still feels good to have this community of support, and to know that others are having success with their systems :)

I'm heading out on vacation soon, so if my LCD doesn't get here in the next few days I won't be able to do it for at least another week or so. But since the LCD in at the Chicago Post on Friday, I would think it would be making its way over to our main sort facility in Detroit area this weekend and out for delivery on Monday or Tuesday (crosses fingers). My "how to" may end up being a quick an dirty mount the camera on a tripod as I do it the first time with Benny Hill theme song in the background as I fumble around.

    No.
As far as I know only Eurocom and MYSN offer 1080p IPS screens now and ship to the U.S. but are pricey, if you want to step up to 3K/4K they will be available soonish...I hope.
Personally I would love to see US seller have a 1080p IPS display but so far I have yet to find one unless you want to swap out the screen yourself. ( Again personally I'm a little hesitant to go this route only becuase I have never done this sort of thing before and with my luck will break something trying it for the first time....they say it's relatively easy but.....anyway)
Im just waiting for the SG (GTX 980m)version to get released before I choose between the two models.

Another question, I read that m.2 SSDs get really hot while not being much faster, except for the Samsung XP941 which is faster but gets really hot. Is this a problem at all with the P650? I know the temps are good but worried about long term durability.

    Problems like what?
It runs every game on High or Ultra and still runs cool, only problem that I can see is the stock TN panel is just average but other than that it's pretty good doing everything else.

It runs hot when you're doing large file transfers. If you do frequent large writes then it may be an issue, otherwise regular OS use and occasional transfer should be fine.

Can someone explain me why in the notebookcheck review the cpu got so high temps ? And in this review the cpu stay cool ?

And is the 180W power adaptor sufficiente to overclock the gpu ? (moderate overclock, just by softwares like nvidia inspector or evga precision)

They probably had a bad paste job, or damaged heatpipe, who knows.

And yes about overclock. I did overclock in the review if you look at the performance and temps and power draw charts. Maximum peak power consumption with GPU +135MHz, vRAM +1000MHz was 155W, so plenty of headroom for even more overclock.

Bad paste job, heatsink, early model, bad chip, bad conditions etc.

The 980M is very frugal compared to the older chips.

What I noticed is that in the notebookcheck.com review they used a i7-4870HQ. I've read that it's hotter than the i7-4770HQ

And what about the room temperature when you benchmarked the temps ?

    thank you

    Room temp was about 72F.

And yes the i7-4870HQ should increase CPU temps but really shouldn't affect GPU temps.

In the XoticPC video review, the CPU temperature during Skydiver is around 90 degree Celsius, which is kind of high. Should I worry about that? Some games that I want to play such as Civilization and Football Manager do tend to use CPU a lot.Do you know how their CPU loads compare to the games you tested?

Not clear what's going on with some of these units with such high temps. My peak CPU temps with gaming at stock GPU settings was less than 80C max and less than 75C in most cases.

I ran the SkyDiver test and got 81C on the CPU:

I did read somewhere, that at least with the NBC-unit there was indeed a problem. AFAIR, some of the fans was not perfectly mounted and thus the fan could not blew its air normally through the heat-exchanger. but I would have to search, where exactly that was stated.
