Not all HDDs are 9.5mm some are 7mm and should make what you're wanting to do a bit easier.

It's the capacity matters for data storage. 7mm hdd is only up to 1TB and absolutely no 2TB hdd have 7mm height yet(for now) FYI. ;)
2.5" 2tb hdd used to be 11.5mm before if not mistaken and made it into 9.5mm so hopefully sooner a 7.5mm 2tb hdd will arrive....

As a total noob in terms of SSD, what SSD (about 250gb) would you recommend me with a good price\performance ratio?

    I own a P650SE.

What format of drive? For 2.5" the 850 evo offers a lot of value.

What's the main difference? Now I own a 5400 rpm 500gb crappy and slow HDD which I would want to leave installed for media data.

I don't even now what size I need or what's the difference between sizes xD

Pretty much all fairly recent SSD's are 7mm height and should have no issue fitting.

    See this video I made:

I have a 1TB Samsung 850 Evo in my P651SE, very happy with it, though I've read it's best not to use the Samsung Magician application to tweak it, but to leave it as is, so that's what I've done

I would go for a Crucial M550 or Sandisk Extreme Pro or Samsung 850 Pro or Intel 520.

Is there any problem leaving the stock HDD installed?

Is there enough place for having both of them?

    Thanks.

I would suggest the Sandisk Extreme Pro.. I wouldn't touch the Samdung SSD's with a barge pole, especially the 840 Evo... Even the 850 Evo is something I would avoid...

850 Pro is a solid performer. If I buy another SSD it will be a Sandisk Extreme Pro though. Just wish they made m.2 models.

guys, hes coming from a platter drive, we could just recommend ANY 250gb ssd out there, might as well just go for the cheapest and itll be a lightyears jump for him in terms of performance :D

It's a 5400 RPM drive on top of that so yes, pretty much any SSD will be a large improvement

Thanks a lot sir HTWingNut you made my day with this video . So it's indeed possible to fit a 9.5mm hdd + 7mm ssd into the NP8651 Clevo P650SE drive bays without the SSD's case.
Too bad my old SSD isn't gonna fit on it. Well at least I have one more extra slot in case I need another ssd into the drive bay.

I notice quite a bit of coil whine from my new eurocom m5 pro with a 970m. Anyone else have bad coil whine?

Depending on the size of your HDD a standard 2.5" SSD may not fit in the second HDD slot. The P650SE has 2x m.2 SSD slots in it so I would go with one of those. Options that Sager offers are Micro M600 or Samsung XP941 PCIe.

I have a eurocom m5 pro I don't believe I experience coil whine. I think my CPU makes the most whiny type noise but it definitely isnt bad.

Edit: when I use full fans mode I do hear a whine, I'm not sure how to gauge if its bad or not, but it doesn't seem too bad.

That sounds like it is your fan. Mine is definitely associated with my gpu. Playing BF3, upon entering the game, I clearly hear the whine or ticking sound kick in. And it immediately shuts off when I exit the game. The fans will still continue to run to finish cooling the gpu back down to a reasonable level and then you can hear them slow down to silent.

I recently got the NP8651 and mine had coil whine from the GPU. Currently, it is back at Sager hopefully getting fixed.

Why would you need to take off the case though, unless you're trying to fit it alongside a 9.5mm HDD

For testing for Prime95 everyone is using the older one and not the latest one right? I got 98 degree celsius on the latest one for a bit then I assume it power throttled and the temps went down and the cpu clock speeds went down. Hopefully that didn't do any damage... right? Also, so the only way to stop the fans from kicking up a bit and stopping really quickly is to somehow set it to intel GPU (probably using the Nvidia Control Panel) ?

it would help to define "older" and "latest one" by listing which versions ure talking about, specifically ;)

Can you guys share your temps with your CPUs when fan is set to Automatic, Maximum and Custom 80%max on full load when gaming?

I am wondering since if I set my fan to Automatics or Custom set to max(80%) my CPU temps reaches 90-/+ but when I use Maximum speed I get just 65-70C on CPU. I'm not kinda not really like setting to maximum fanspeed when gaming since it's too load(unless you use headphones/set)

    Thanks ;)

You might also wanna look at the newest MSI GE62 Apache Pro-055 which I think rivals with clevo ps650se. msi gs60 is really good since it's really more slimmer but clevo ps650se wins in terms of cooling. But by design I think msi wins against clevo ps650se ...

You are asking this in a Clevo/Sager thread... Expect the answers to be more biased toward Clevo/Sager.

I was in your boat once. I was looking pretty hard at the MSI Ghost Pro FHD. It's more comparable with P65xSE with the 970M. However, it is much more expensive than the Clevo. Value-wise, you will get more bang for you bucks with the P65xSE.

The MSI is thinner, but wider as its bezel is huge (I looked at one at a computer store). Also the build is quite plasticky with lots of flex. The P65xSE at least has metal bottom, it is also more sturdy overall with less flex.

Also if you are planning on upgrading, the MSI will be a pain to upgrade as its memory slots are on the other side of the motherboard. This means after removing the bottom panel, you will have to remove the motherboard completely, then flip it over just to upgrade the memory... Ugh... No thanks.

Also, MSI has less storage options. Bear that in mine as well.

In the end, I got a good deal on a P650SE. I actually had an MSI G60 Ghost Pro on order too but canceled it as my instinct told me the P650SE is a better choice at less cost. I cannot be happier. Enjoying the Clevo/Sager everyday now. :)

Thank you for ur opinion well its true the answers here will be more biased but if thay can backed it up and from what im looking now thatvit is true well that is ok. Yeah i just take a look at the gs60 in msi store today and it looks cheap with a lot of plasticky feel but damn p650se in my place right now look damn ugly.

P650se here is called Terrans force (ugly name) but it is friggin cheap 1600 us$ and you get ips screen, 16gb ram and 256gb ssd and windows 8.1

You could probably contact the reseller and ask to see if they still have any codes. A few resellers still have the promotion listed.
