I was looking at buying a Sager 9150 from Xoticpc seeing as they seem to have the best prices and most deals. However I live in Canada and this can occasionally create issues.
So I was wondering:
Do their prices stack up well to Canadian outlets?
How is their customer service for Canadian customers?
And finally how do I calculate the total cost of my order in CDN on their website.

There currently is one Canadian-based Sager reseller: Reflex Notebook. Their contact here is NovaH.
All Sager resellers will provide the Canadian warranty coverage for a certain amount.
Other Clevo resellers will vary:
Malibal, no extra charge
Eurocom, no extra charge
Mythlogic, extra
Prostar, extra
To calculate the cost in CAD, check with your bank or credit card issuer. They're the ones who are going to be charging you the exchange. -

As Canadian as Eurocom may be, they're not a Sager reseller, that's why I mention them separately.

Not really concerned with purchasing from a Canadian reseller (although it is an option). I was just curious how Xoticpcs prices and service are in comparison to other resellers particularily when dealing with Canadian customers.
To be more specific....because Xoticpc offers deals to NBR members does that make it more cost effective even if I'm a Canadian customer? -
You will still get the NBR discounts and student discounts and such if you meet the requirements. But after the purchase, you are responsible for the shipping fees and the brokerage fees.
These prices can differ greatly depending on which part Canada you live in.
West Coast, expect 100$+ on shipping and another 50$ or so in brokerage. Maybe more.
East Coast, Expect 200$+ on shipping and another 80$ or more in brokerage.
It will get rather expensive.
I recommend buying from a Canadian reseller such as Reflex notebooks. Although their prices may seem higher, after US-CA conversions and shipping and all, Reflex will actually be cheaper.
They cover shipping and brokerage. -
Does Reflex Notebook offer student discounts? Any promotional discounts or NBR deals?
-
Yes they do. Speak to a rep or visit their website.

If you get a Sager branded computer you'll get the same warranty coverage. To get an idea of what your final price will be check out TheFinalCost.com - Canadian total shipping fees calculator (brokerage, duty, customs) which will calculate if for you. On that page you'll see it list brokerage fees which you do have to pay if you use UPS ground for shipping, if you use UPS Express then you do not have to pay brokerage fees on top of that.
-
Just a heads up on TheFinalCost.com - Canadian total shipping fees calculator (brokerage, duty, customs) it doesn't calculate HST on Provinces that use it so the prices displayed will actually be lower than actual final prices.

I would say go for the Canadian resellers. It'll make your life a lot easier

You may also purchase the Canada Shipping insurance which covers shipping for RMA's both ways.

I purchased my machine from XoticPC last April. Aside from my AUO panel being on backorder for over a month (which I did know when I ordered), everything went quick and smooth. So for what it's worth, as a Canadian who has dealt with Xotic in the past, everything was comfortable and I would deal with them again (depending on how strong the Canadian dollar is, now knowing about Reflex).
That said, I didn't know about Reflex Notebooks when I ordered my Sager. I've looked into two identical NP9170 builds from both Xotic and Reflex, and prices are almost the same, including shipping / brokerage fees / taxes. The following applies to a machine built by either reseller being shipped to British Columbia:
Reflex Notebooks: $2500.54CDN base price + $0.00CDN shipping through UPS Ground + $300.06CDN in taxes = $2800.60CDN final price.
XoticPC: $2359.00USD base price + $79.00USD shipping through USPS Priority Mail = $2483.89CDN + $ 298.07CDN in taxes + $62.10CDN credit card conversion fee + $5.65CDN brokerage fee = $2849.71CDN final price.
So ordering from Canada, you'll save about $50, plus not have to worry about customs with any RMA or warranty issues should they arise. XoticPC didn't offer USPS shipping when I ordered my machine, so my shipping fees were around $120USD or so. In the end, I probably spent about $100CDN more than I needed to.
I know this is a lot of useless math when the obvious choice here is to go with a competitively priced Canadian retailer if you live in Canada, but I thought I'd do it anyway. Baring the credit card conversion fee, it would actually be cheaper to order from Xotic it would appear, if my math adds up properly.
