Dropping by to leave some feedback, as i can finally consider my upgrade done. After researching for a while the prices of GTX980M, decided to buy one from woodzstack, as it beat all of the other offers out there. Card was sent as a gift, so that saved me from being busted with a 21% import fee on it. Shipping took a bit longer than estimated, but thats because it was just sitting for days first in the canadian post office, then in spanish customs... nothing to do with the seller really. Once installed, i had a couple of software issues and the card wasnt working properly, but everything got sorted out with the help of woodzstack. Thanks alot man!

Ordered two 980M cards and a new SLI bridge to upgrade my Alienware 18...because we all want moar efff-peee-esss'es and stuffz

Had to wait a few days before they were flashed with a Prema vBIOS, tested and shipped. Then obviously the shipping.
Paid my invoice on December 10th and received the cards in the mail on 29th. Didn't have to pay the stupid customs either, which was a great bonus for me as I live in the UK and they rob us real bad here!

The cards themselves were quite well packaged, nothing to complain about there.

I had to set aside around 5h to actually do the whole thing: use DDU in Safe Mode then dismantle the laptop piece by piece, disconnect everything, take off all the heatsinks, clean them and the chips, then hard-mod my heatsinks with a dremel (ask me for pics if needed) as they wouldn't fit the new cards right, then clean up, paste CPU and GPUs with Liquid Ultra, put the heatsinks back, re-assemble the laptop back together and install the drivers.

Had to give Woodz a call on the old mobile to consult the hardware mod in one spot as I wasn't sure if I could bend the copper pipe, but in the end I decided to just hammer it down and it works fine.

Once I booted up I first went into BIOS and checked whether the laptop sees the cards - and indeed it saw them both. Then booted into Windows 10 and installed the official Nvidia drivers I've pre-downloaded before starting the job. Everything went smoothly and the cards worked with no extra effort needed. They run cool (thanks to Maxwell and LCU), overclock well to 1250MHz+ stable - nothing to complain about.
The cards are total powerhouses and I love them!

Unigine Heaven benchmarks of mine (1080p fullscreen, Extreme preset):

So they pretty much are a desktop 780 each with more than double the VRAM

Overall I'm happy with the purchase. Games run fast, cards run cool, no software mods needed. Could have shipped faster, but that was for the most part through no fault of Woodz, so ah well. But the rest - communication and support - BRILLIANT!

Bought a 980m from woodzstack. answered almost all of my excessive amount of questions, and even offered to call me and walk me through the install process. ( I didnt need the help but the offer was above and beyond expectations.) I had some help from woodzstack and a few other forum members to stop the alienware 17 throttling issues and now good to go.
To anyone purchasing one of these cards from him, my ASIC quality was 81.3% which is pretty impressive from what I've been told.
Also make sure you back up your stock vbios and install Prima mod's vbios. This solved all my throttling and got me up to the cards full potential.

Bought 970M 6GB from woodzstack via ebay, card arrived fast in very safe (professional) packaging with all the screws. Very good contact, we shared many mails before transaction, with many questions from me, all replied fast and to the point. Card sent as a private person@private address to private person@private address, as a gift, so no tax for me. Card is really a beautiful piece of kit, brand new, unused, factory sealed, with "January 2016" manufactured date. Flashed with newest Prema vBIOS. ASIC quality slightly lower then 80% (don`t remember now precise number).
I had and still have problems with drivers for my 8770w, but card itself is great and I can only recommend woodzstack as a genuine honest seller.

Some people get more lucky than others, but usually things are good. im happy I was able to help, I'm no stranger to setting aside some time for a client, though I do surely have some crazy busy days from time to time.

First of all, welcome to NBR forums ! Thank you so much for such great and detailed feedback ! That literally is the concern and questions many people want answers to, the kind of reassurement they're looking for. If you ever need anything else let me know, and about the driver for that, consider creating a post in the right section about it, I'm absolutely sure there are a plethora of other people wishing to know some of the same information you came across, and if you could upload that driver for people, someone is surely bound to figure it out and why it works and the others don't. Theres not as much support as you will find for Clevo's or Alienware or MSI etc.. but thats just because there is not as many fan boys who dedicate time to maximising their rigs out for HP and such. They are just as viable as a DELL PC most of the time (their higher end stuff, Im saying)

 

Thread already posted, link to uploaded driver too. There is almost none information of such HP upgrade on the web, so yeah it had to be posted here to share it.
BTW If you get some increase of sale numbers of 970M from 8770w users don`t forget to PayPal me my part ;-) j/k

I could finally get my 980m from Woodzstack's and I'm super happy about it.

I do recommend him providing an excellent service, even for everybody living outside Canada or the US, as the card arrived quickly and without any other fees.

Thank you for the recommendation. Ya, sometimes its slow getting the card shipped, but I only use very fast shipping, so usually makes up for it. I get a 40% discount on the shipping I use most of the time, so when someone might pay 45-75$ its usually the fastest available, whereas if I were to use UPS or Purolator or DHL or TNT sometimes, they charge 150+ and its no different, except maybe getting stopped by customs. Never a good thing.

Your welcome. your lucky, i had a huge screw up with deliveries this week, none of my restock has arrived. literally UPS, the fuktards, came to the door at 9PM today and dropped off papers saying they attempted deliveries on wednesday and thursday. Its friday - they came at 9pm today to ONLY leave papers saying they attempted delivery during the week. thing is - I was home, at my office all week. They never rang my bell. The bastards. I had a SLIGHT change of door/address and they just don't even bother reading my address anymore, they just see my name and assume they know where I am from forced abit. SO ANNOYING.

Bought a 980M from @woodzstack back in June. Great communication throughout the purchase/delivery process shipped it to me In Saudi Arabia. Includes everything you need with the card and above all the ASIC quality is excellent! Card is brand new, and sealed. It's made in Canada unlike most cards sold by other vendors.

What can I say MAN !! I've received my 980M very quickly in France last week, follow all the process(thx to the forum) & put it into my M18x, it ran since 3 days with all my software & 99% of my games (DCS Sim, BF3, BF4, R6 siege, Total war games...).I just had to downgrade from W10 to W8.1 in order to prepare installation of the card.

Ordered a GTX970m mxm 6Gb for my Medion Erazer X6819 (MSI GT683) - gave me loads of advice on modding heatsink, updated bios specifically for this model and sent to UK in good time without massive Customs Import charges.
Heatsink mod completed as in link he provided and fitted new card...... Laptop is now running sweeeet!
Will defo be in touch again for next upgrade

Payment: Very simple & safe through paypal
Shipment: 1 day from receiving cleared payment, took 6 days to reach me in Germany, perfect packaging
Installation: As simple as simple could be, uninstall old drivers using DDU, remove old card, install new card, install modded drivers with windows driver signature disabled
Performance: around 11k 3dmark11 on stock clocks & stock vBios, around 13k 3dmark11 on stock clocks and Prema vBios 2.0
Temperature development: 60s-70s on stock clocks and stock vBios, late 70s-80s on Prema vBios 2.0 - Dunno if it is ****ty AW cooling or these cards run hot with the modded vBios (Reverted back to stock vBios because the performance increase doesn't justify the high temperature delta and the provided vBios isn't so bad)

Overall experience: I can't help but say that I am amazed about how smooth did this transaction go especially with the overseas shipping and the amazing price. Thanks @woodzstack & I hope we can do further business in the future.
