    @bloodhawk

Set the profile to 15 (3000 MHz) and was able to boot and complete the benchmark.

CPU @ 4.5 GHz on all cores, Cache Ratio @ stock 4.1 GHz

    3000 MHz.png

Now, let me play a game of Need for Speed to ensure the FPS doesn't dip to 5 FPS after a while as was the case when I overclocked my Samsung 2133 MHz RAM from 2133 MHz to 2400 MHz

well @Prema said the Prema BIOS supports up to 3200 MHz memory, how is that the case when the max profile I was able to select is profile 15 which equates to 3000 MHz on my system?

Maybe multipliers arent as drastic? I dont remember the math right now. I saw it somewhere.

You can't just increase the multiplier, you have to tweak timings as well.

Okay maybe I should have reworded that. Yes you can to a certain point. Then after that when you're no longer stable, you need to tweak timings.

Pretty much. Usually changing the first 4 numbers is enough.

Also @Phoenix, are you planning to grab a pair of 980 SLI once that is available?

It's interesting seeing contradicting things about 980 SLI.

@XMG says we will not see it happen.

Yet others are saying HIDEvolution/Eurocom will offer it soon.

    Will be interesting to see.

Looking at the existent of the m5500m, I think it would be most certainly be possible. Whether the issues surrounding it is worth it or not its another question.

These only come in 2x16GB kits for the DDR4-3000 16-18-18-43
Would 2x of these kits work fine?

most likely yes, although I have contacted HIDevolution and they said there are no plans or anything in the pipeline so far.

so this will all depend on the Pascal availability. I'd rather have a single Pascal than to deal with SLI headaches again. If there was no Pascal coming soon though then I will bite the SLI bullet again to play my benchmarks. Nothing is clear at this point so I cannot give you a proper answer.

I asked HIDevolution about one user claiming he got word from Ted that they will offer it. He told me that was not true. He said they are looking for ways if this will be possible but nothing confirmed yet to make it official

Probably it is not going to be possible since the cooling would be a bit insufficient as even now . Adding two GTX980 180W would mean melting the thing down.

Why not 2 of the MSI GTX 980s? Honestly don't see how Clevo can't add those in the P870DM? They are like 125/140W GPUs so should be fine.. If GT80 can cool it, the P870DM can do so too!

MSI GTX980 does not work, and neither cools off, and neither is able to power them properly.

This is the problem. When they did this, it drain from the battery, instead of having enough current.

It is rather like they did it, but it does not work to full potential.

Thats due to the single 330w charger. Not the design of the GTX 980 SLI cooling system.

Why was a single 330w adapter used? Who knows.

The fact is, GTX 980 is extremely power hungry under constant load especially when overclocked. The stock vbios just hold it back to an acceptable level, thats all.

Even with the power limitations, a single 330w is not going to be enough.

I imagine a heavily OCed phoenix with dual 980s might even have problem with 2 x 330w.

I run 408w from a single PSU in 3DM Firetrike with OC'd 6700K and Gtx980(desktop version) http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8110562 I can just forget to run 3Dmark11 with the same OC and a single 330W. 2x 980(Msi card) with a single 330w is a joke. And a nice Oc on those cards is even a bigger joke, more like a scary horror novel
