I am in the UK and need to a buy a new 17" laptop and all the off-the-shelf ones don't really appeal to me so will have a custom-configured one.

In the UK it seems the 2 main sellers of custom laptops are MySN and Eurocom. Is there any big difference in quality between them? Price-wise it seems Eurocom is slightly cheaper but not a by a long shot so what is more important for me is which one is more reliable when there are problems. I need my laptop to be functioning flawlessly the majority of the time.

I have tried to look through various post but it seems people post mostly after they buy the laptop and get it delivered - I am interested in experiences from people who had laptops from these companies for a while already (especially if they had any issues that needed resolving).

    Thanks

    Hi

I'm sure Eurocom won't mind me saying this as I would expect them to point out the same thing if the roles were reversed. Just to clarify, Eurocom is based in Canada and we are based in the UK so technically they're not a main seller in the UK and we aren't a main seller in Canada :)

When comparing prices, bear in mind that u will havto pay 20% VAT on a purchase from outside Europe and other issues like warranty coverage. For these reasons, I would always recommend people to buy from their local sales area so they have the best experience and support available.

I could go on to say how amazing we are but you've asked for neutral opinions so I will leave it there - if you do have any questions however please feel free to contact us directly.

Probably a bit late now, but for anyone else coming across this thread from the UK, there's also Scan 3XS systems and PC Specialist who both sell Clevo based laptops. I have personal experience of a purchase from Scan about a year ago, which was generally excellent.

He probably saw the name Eurocom and assumed that Eurocom would be located in Europe, not Canada.

Yes, I saw it around here and the Eurocom website was even happy giving me prices in GBP so I assumed they'd ship to here - would they not?

i think they will ship to uk but it doesnt work out any cheaper as you will have to add the 20% vat import duty.
then if it ever had to go for service the owner would have to pay shipping costs.

you bought from the right place so welcome to the XMG family.

    Great to hear :)

Eurocom would indeed sell to anyone in GBP (I don't know if they actually accept GBP payments/cards or if it's just an exchange rate calculator on their website) and they will ship here and worldwide just like we do. It's just that it doesn't really make any sense to buy a laptop from a different continent unless you have a specific requirement or reason to do so. You'll still end up having to pay 20% UK VAT and any warranty work would need to be done in Canada, plus the support is 6 hours behind the UK. Same the other way round, if a customer from Canada bought a laptop from us then we would need it back here to fix any serious issues and the support is 6 hours ahead!

I think one of the owners of Eurocom is European, that's the only connection.
