After much going back and forth on which laptop to buy after my AW17 bit the dust, I ordered with @Donald@HIDevolution. Great guy and awesome service.

As the title suggests, went with the 6th generation processor since it was on sale. Got it with a 1070, 6820HK, Liquid Ultra, Windows 10 Pro, 256 M.2, Intel 8265, and the 3 year warranty.

@Phoenix I would love your help tweaking it if you don't mind. I've not used Windows 10 yet as I stuck with 7 on my last laptop. @Donald@HIDevolution told me to reach out to you.

Thanks for all the input from everyone in deciding, whether I took the advice or not.

Can't wait to get it and see what she can do! To satisfy my feening for my new toy, any forums that I should read up on to get better informed while I wait?

Welcome to the EVOC Team bandwagon.

Here is what I'll tweak for you

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct expirements on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling cortana, etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly
6- Restoring the classic Windows 7 Calculator and Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu

Wow, that's just awesome man. That's amazing that you offer those services to strangers. Means a lot to me especially as I'm not savvy enough to do a lot of this myself. I can follow guides alright, but this is on another level! I look forward to working with you man!

I know I'm a couple weeks out from getting the laptop, but is there anything I need to do to get ready for the tweaks @Phoenix?

    Tools you will need:

    TeamViewer
Skype installed on both your cell phone and your laptop
Spare USB Flash Disk with a minimum size of 8GB just to place the latest Windows 10 ISO on it for the future (not mandatory)
    a speedy internet connection

The rest of the tweaks/apps, I will transfer to you over TeamViewer

In fact, you can start right now, download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, and let it do its thing to download and burn the ISO to your USB Flash Drive:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I highly recommend you buy a license for ESET NOD32 Antivirus if you value your security and want to have an AV that has 0 impact on performance: https://www.eset.com/us/home/antivirus/

Sorry, for some reason I didn't get a notification that you replied. I'll get started on that ASAP. My laptop got started in production today. I'm assuming it will not get shipped out until Monday though.

    Thanks again!

Just so I make sure I'm fully prepared for your mods, let me make sure I'm on the same page.

I'm looking for a Thursday delivery. When I get my laptop, just start it up and activate Windows? I'm going to buy a license from a site @Mr. Fox shared with me, I just had HID install a copy of Pro without a key. Then just install TeamViewer and Skype on my laptop. Should I use a USB 3.0 flash for the ISO you think?

I hadn't heard of ESET before, I've used BitDefender on my last machine for a while. I'll look it up and try it out if you think it's worth it. I usually am a cheapskate and go free versions, but it makes sense to protect an expensive laptop for sure.

that's all you need, make sure you do not connect to a wireless network during the initial Windows setup welcome screens otherwise you will be forced to login with a Microsoft account which I highly advice against.

As for the AV, you see what you want, if you value your security AND performance and want to have an AV with 0 false positives, built in HTTP scanning, that is light as a feather, be prepared to spend 40 USD for 1 year or 60 USD for 2 years

PS: your signature says EVOK, it's EVOC bro not EVOK :D

You can find NOD32 pretty easily for less than that. I paid $36 for two years from a local big-box store.

Thanks @saturnotaku I just checked Amazon and they have 2 years for about $39. Not a bad deal for peace of mind.

@Phoenix will I still need to put that ISO file on a USB if they already installed 10 Pro for me or is the USB for the mod version you are doing?

Do you think it matters which year the program is, or do I just need the code to activate the program after I download it online?

won't you have an OS preinstalled already? then you don't need any ISO/USB Flash Drive. You can keep one handy for me to make you an ISO for future installation but not needed for now. Don't worry too much about all this, all I need is your TeamViewer ID/Pass man

a license for any year for ESET's products is valid to be activated on the latest version so ignore the product year you are buying

Thanks again, don't mean to ask so many questions. I just wanted to make sure I have everything lined up so I don't waste your time. I bought the Windows 10 Pro key and the 2 year ESET so I should be good to go. Haven't used TeamViewer before so I'll have to set it up on the new laptop as I'm without a machine at the moment. Only have my wife's MacBook and my computer at work right now.

Speaking of NOD32, I just opened my Twitter and NOD32's HTTP scanner blocked this shady connection, probably some tracker....... that's why you only want the AV and not the security suite, it's more than enough to block bad connections/downloads:

Ran the setup, they really do want a lot of access to your information. Whenever you get a chance to run your mods, I've got TeamViewer and everything ready to go.

Sorry, I'll try to catch you on later when you have some free time.

Should I run some stress tests or just install a game and monitor temps?
