P650HS purchase from HIDevolution

Hi,

Just ordered the below P650HS-G from HIDevolution. Sure this will not come as a surprise to many, but the service received to date from HIDevolution and especially @Donald@HIDevolution has been first class. From spending about an hour on the phone running over options (and saving me cash), to promptly answering follow-up queries and also a subsequent minor change to the order after purchase, the whole process has been hassle free and I would highly recommend them!

@Phoenix - very kind offer, thank you! What tweaks are you recommending and how do I (we) go about it?

 

You need a fast internet connection, and TeamViewer installed on your computer, then I will PM you once you have your laptop with you.

Here are the tweaks:

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling cortana, etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly
6- Restoring the classic Windows 7 Calculator and Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu

 

What kind of help did they give you over the phone? And how did they save you money?

 

@McToweleee - sorry for delay in replying, been away. The help was focused on knowing what I would be using the laptop for, explaining the differences in components and then tailoring the laptop spec to suit my requirements. That led to savings from my original spec to the tailored spec.

@Phoenix - thanks for the info and offer. Sounds good; the laptop is almost here (see below), so I'll give you a shout shortly.

In case it helps anyone who's keen on purchasing through HIDevolution or has just done so and is interested in the order stages, my order experience was as follows (note: I went for rush order (1-5 working days))

Aug 9 - Ordered the laptop (~8pm UK time)
Aug 10 - Pre-production
Aug 10 - Had a change of heart overnight and wanted a larger SSD. Contacted @Donald@HIDevolution who put the change through straight away, no issues
Aug 10 - Update of Pre-Production following change
Aug 16 - In-production (~8am PST)
Aug 16 - Awaiting shipment (~3.30pm PST)
Aug 16 - FedEx had picked up the shipment (~5pm PST) and I received tracking details
Aug 17 - reached UK at ~6pm UK
Aug 18 - reached Guernsey today at ~10am UK

Unfortunately, that's where it's got complicated... Small island customs attitudes have kicked in and despite the local carrier for FedEx (Guernsey Post) and Guernsey Customs themselves both acknowledging that the duty payable on a laptop import from the US is charged at 0%, they have to go through duty declarations and the like. In short, it's unlikely I'll see the laptop till Monday 21st now.

Obviously, that hiccup is nothing to do with HIDevolution, who I've still been very impressed with.

I'll update again once I receive the machine.

 

I take back what I said about small island attitudes; they got the customs stuff sorted and I received the laptop Saturday morning!

Been somewhat limited to installing games, etc. so far, but initial thoughts on the machine itself (rather than performance) are:

• Laptop received well packed and in perfect condition
• Despite knowing the dimensions and weight it actually felt thinner and lighter than expected
• Screen looks lovely - vivid colours, good viewing angle
• The lid and areas around keyboard are fingerprint magnets - I really don't care about this, but I see it mentioned often in reviews so there are obviously some people who do

As said, haven't done enough gaming with it yet to discuss thermals, noise, performance, etc.
