Hi Phoenix, it seems you are very active on the forum, thanks for helping people out with their laptops :)

Got some news from Ted, seems like the 960 pro is over-demanded and they won't get it before mid-december :(
It would mean being in the middle of the christmas fuss, for production AND for delivery...
Now I'm hesitating with taking a simpler "HIDevolution Approved 512GB M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD" to not be in that situation. Would I even notice the difference of speed ?

Ask Hide what SSD it is.. Probably the SM951 and if its that, I would take it tbh.. You won't notice much difference..

Bro, from personal experience, you won't notice a difference between SSD A vs B. Only in synthetic benchmarks would you see a difference.

If I was going for a 512GB SSD right NOW, I would choose the 512GB 950 PRO which you see in my signature. It's very reliable and fast. If you want 1TB, then go with the SM961.

I would recommend the SanDisk X400 1TB also as it's cheaper and very good, but it's not NVMe if that matters to you.

It's actually the PM951. I'll wait for the 960 pro, I don't want to regret any rush. They said they would prioritize the order, so I'll trust that :)

But XMG in Germany offers a single GTX1080 Clevo machine in that exact spec for 4000EUR. Your configuration is roughly 4150USD, but you'll have to pay ~20VAT on that once it gets to France, making it a $5000 (4700EUR). Even with the forum discount, you've paid more than what you should've and any warranty concerns means extended downtime since it has to go all the way to the US...

XMG offers a single GTX 1080 only with the clevo P775DM3 (XMG U717), not with the P870DM3 (XMG U727).

I actually asked them if they planned to offer a single GTX 1080 with the U727 because I wanted the P870DM3 case.
Their response was : "We don't understand your question, U727 and U717 have the same case".
    I then responded : "No they don't".
They then responded the question : "U727 only comes with SLI 1080"

Hence the choice of another reseller.
As to VAT HIDE has ways.
I was also happy to find a delidded CPU option at HIDE.

So you are paying more for a cosmetically different case? Okay, that's perfectly okay, to each his own.
As for VAT, may I need to remind you that knowingly dodging taxes is a prosecutable offence in both the US and the EU.
Now that you've said it in a public forum, this is proof of intent and can be used against you.

I was just looking for a thicker case, for better cooling. I sense animosity, did I do something to you ?

That doesn't sound sketchy at all...

What you buy is completely irrelevant to me, you can get whatever that pleases you from whomever or wherever you want.
However, it is your civil duty to pay taxes as a resident/ citizen of the EU, and I don't take too kindly to people that don't pay their taxes. Those of us who do pay our taxes inevitably end up having to pay even more taxes to foot the bill for the the benefits that you enjoy on a daily basis.

I don't have a complete record fo the whole conversation in front of me, but the guys in sales would be correct in that at the moment we only sell the U272 with SLI. Regarding the "same case" comment, this must be a typo from them or something - trust me when I saw that they know the difference!

P.S. RE tax please be careful with this - no matter who you purchase from there is no legal way to get around VAT. There's no arrangement that legally allows a company or individual to bypass the law in the UK or anywhere else in Europe.
