Before anyone complains about this not being official forums, shut it, give me a reliable eta of when they will be back up and I will happily complain there.

Secondly, If kobalt do not correspond within the next day or 2 then I will be forced to get a refund as I desperately need a computer for my university course.

I know that you can complain and get a reimbursement from a credit card company and then they shall deal with kobalt, but can you do the same thing if you paid with a debit card??

I still don't know why I didn't order from PC Specialist as they could have send me the same laptop within a week for not much more.

You should still have some protection with a debit card, assuming it is through a decent bank, but you should really consider using a CC on all internet purchases. You may very well be stuck carrying that debit charge for the next month until the bank straightens it out. Getting it resolved without the bank is definitely ideal. I would continue pestering the company even after you submit it to your bank...

AMEX, for instance, immediately removes the charges from your account, and they are simply more aggressive with this stuff. Its a nice piece of mind.

This isn't exactly true. More often than not, I've seen people get their issues resolved with Kobalt by posting here. From all the posts I have seen over the last year or so, many customers tried reaching Kobalt first, and finally only saw results after posting in this forum.

On a bad note, with the announcement of Kobalt closing their doors, I'm not sure if this is an option for you. I wish you the best of luck.

On a good note, Kobalt is closing their doors. Since I started browsing these forums I've heard nothing but bad things from people about that company. Before someone states that only angry people post and rant, not once have I heard someone defend them in these posts either.

I just wish these buyers found this board and did their research BEFORE purchasing a system. I've found everyone here is helpful and knowledgeable, and regardless how many of the same questions pop up as new threads again and again, people are still willing to answer them without any sort of snide remarks.

In my opinion, this shows an excellent community and I thank everyone who frequents this board.

    Wow I can't believe they've shut down.

Kobalt Systems - Performance Notebook & Desktop Computers

There will be a lot of people who have just bought laptops there or have warranties still running that are going to be pissed. I really feel for those guys and girls who can't get charge backs

I was considering getting another Clevo, but got an R3 instead. But if I did get a Clevo it would have been from PCSpecialist, as Kobalt had far too many on-going complaints. Pity they folded though.

Yes it's true Amex levy more interchange (merchant charges), but to say "few" companies accept it is not true. 95% of my monthly spend is on my Amex be that shops/restaurants/internet purchases. You'll be hard pressed to find a major UK retailer who doesn't and whilst smaller independent retailers may not they are still in the minority.

PC Specialist take it though, so I get a sweet new system and 2% cashback woop woop
