Hi guys,
Since there aren't too many posts about HID's RMA experience I thought I'd give some honest feedback here.
Contact initiated May 10th, laptop received back June 15th. (I shipped it to them on like the 15thish of May)
The mobo was messed up, @Zoltan@HIDevolution tried to remote in (hence the lag, HID didn't like waste 5 days I was too busy to do a remote session for a few days) and also found that we couldn't update the bios because it kept hanging. I'd been having other weird issues like screen flashes and stuttering etc...
So for the most part I'm very happy. I requested to get the back lcd panel changed which they did for me (to change the custom engraving I got to a plain one, as I'm gonna sell it soon to upgrade machines) for a bit over 100 bucks. Which while kinda expensive is mostly reasonable considering it's an unusual request that requires sourcing just a back plate. The unit appears to be new as well, doesn't really look like my old Clevo. Maybe @Donald@HIDevolution could help me out if I'm wrong there, but certain minor scratches from use appear to be gone.
Any way so they had to send it back to the manufacturer hence the long wait, they shipped it back on Friday and Fedex then screwed up the shipping label which delayed it for a day (huehue Fedex suks) and it got here today.
My constructive criticism is in HID's proactiveness. I personally didn't care all that much as I didn't need the laptop for anything important at the moment, but I know a lot of people would appreciate updates (even just weekly). But, part of the reason I really don't care is that if you reach out the them the turnaround is insanely quick. I'd ask Donald or Juan to get an update and get it in like an hour. So HID's service is crazy responsive just reach out proactively yourself!
Otherwise it was a great experience, I spoke with Zoltan, @Ted@HIDevolution , Juan, and of course the venerable Donald over the course of this ticket, and as usual they all reeked of competency and class.
One thing of note is that temps are warmer than when I originally got the unit though. CPU under 100% load hits the mid 80s on the stock fan while they hit like 75 initially (though full fan lowers this obviously). The gpu is also hitting 85C on stock settings vs 79C originally. So that's a bit disappointing as the temps were incredibly impressive when I first ordered it. But they're totally fine under max fans, not an issue (In the 70s on both). I use headphones anyway.
So a positive experience! HID did some custom stuff for me and also processed quickly from their side when they actually had control over the machine. Overall I'm pleased.
Oh and a note: 27 messages were sent back and forth over the course of the ticket (much of it involving scheduling a voice chat session, and ordering the back panel) Plus one pm here to Donald for good measure. So lots of communication if you want it!
