Don't know if this is the proper area for posting this. Just wanted everyone to be aware of the bad experience I had with Donald@Hidevolution. I almost ordered a laptop with them a few months ago and ended up going a different route and had a pleasant conversation with Donald about it. Today I asked Donald about purchasing the new Aero 15x through him and this is the response I got. I see so many people recommending them on here. Just wanted to share my poor experience with them. Fyi I never gave him my info because I didn't know if I was ordering through them yet and don't like handing out my email and name without a reason.

I created an account on the HID site in order to save my shopping cart so that when I was ready to purchase I could discuss the options I chose when calling Donald.

When I was finally ready to start negotiating a purchase with Donald I emailed him to ask about the NBR discount and he apparently searched my name pulled up my information and saved shopping cart. How did he find me in the system? Well, for one I signed my email with my name because that's just what you do. Secondly, not only was he proactive by pulling up my saved shopping cart to see what I had chosen, it allowed him to have several recommendations and questions at the ready so that I got the best price and computer FOR MY NEEDS as well as the best discount possible and didn't OVERSPEND if it wasn't necessary.

Giving him basic information and having a saved cart let him know that I was serious about buying a computer from "somewhere" and wasn't just asking random questions while price shopping various retailers.

Obviously, Donald can very well defend himself on these forums but I stand by my assertion that he goes above and beyond for every single customer when he has the proper information to work with. Plus, I have a feeling that your post above doesn't contain the entire conversation thread but that's just my opinion. [Mod removed the conversation in the OP]

I’m glad you had a decent experience. I am just sharing mine. I don’t think the lack of personal info before I had made up my mind would justify his response. That’s definitely the entire conversation. I could upload screenshots of my inbox if you’d like. I understand your skepticism.

Fair enough but you still didn't provide your name and create an account after repeated requests and then you kept asking additional questions. Having owned a retail store in the past, It's difficult to build a quote when you don't have the required information and if I had asked for it multiple times I would have shut you down too. Sometimes you gotta give to get, especially in this software-driven world we live in.

I think you’re a little confused. I stated I wasn’t sure if I’d be ordering the laptop or not. He said to let him know when I decided. I asked a question about a different laptop and got that terrible response. My info was really just asked for once. It was a copy paste added on that he sends to everyone. I figured after I gave the response about not being sure it was apparent..

Ahh, well that kind of defeats the purpose of showing how bad some instances with them can be! I do understand though.

I won't argue semantics. The bottom line is that he asked who he was speaking to and you didn't provide the info. I won't belabor the point any further.

    Have a nice day!

Let me see if I can clarify.

When any prospective buyer approaches me anonymously in a PM, asking for details on the Notebookreview discount, I provide that information and ask them to either email or call me if they have any other questions.

Decency and politeness would usually lead the Member to do so. However, anyone is entitled to hide behind an anonymous USER ID if they like, but if they choose to do so repeatedly in PM, I am equally entitled to ask them to either call me, or email me with any other questions they might have...and refuse to continue the dialog in PM.

I am very busy all day, every day, helping customers who call, chat in from our website, or email me. I simply will not take the time to continue to answer repeated PMs from someone, after I have asked them to either call or email me with any additional questions they might have.

If this is offensive to some, I understand. However, anyone who would be so offended, would probably be better served by buying from someone else anyway.

Further, etiquette on this forum would typically call for tagging the Member ( @Donald@HIDevolution) when making comments about them so they are alerted. It is kind of like, if you have something to say, say it to their face.

Well technically you were arguing over semantics. I do love hypocrites. Pretty sure it's because I proved my point.

"When any prospective buyer approaches me anonymously in a PM, asking for details on the Notebookreview discount, I provide that information and ask them to either email or call me if they have any other questions."

Ok, then you definitely shouldn't have continued a conversation with me lol. You didn't express that information was need for questions, just the discount.

"Decency and politeness would usually lead the Member to do so. However, anyone is entitled to hide behind an anonymous USER ID if they like, but if they choose to do so repeatedly in PM, I am equally entitled to ask them to either call me, or email me with any other questions they might have...and refuse to continue the dialog in PM."

Like I just stated, you still continued to do so.

"I am very busy all day, every day, helping customers who call, chat in from our website, or email me. I simply will not take the time to continue to answer repeated PMs from someone, after I have asked them to either call or email me with any additional questions they might have."

If you're that busy, you just shouldn't have responded. I'd hardly call one pm with a question, then another question a month and a half later "repeated'

"If this is offensive to some, I understand. However, anyone who would be so offended, would probably be better served by buying from someone else anyway."

I'm 100% positive anyone that saw your message would take it as being offensive.

"Further, etiquette on this forum would typically call for tagging the Member ( @Donald@HIDevolution) when making comments about them so they are alerted. It is kind of like, if you have something to say, say it to their face."

I have no problem saying it to your face. I also have no problem letting everyone else know.
So Donald, do I have your permission to repaste our conversation that the mods deleted? I think everyone would benefit from actually seeing the conversation and making up their own minds.

@childprotectorofthenight you're not alone, I had a very similar experience with Donald when trying to ask some questions about a laptop, including the verbatim canned responses and feigned indignation, as if it was somehow my fault for "being rude" (seriously?) in not wanting to surrender personal information to a stranger on the Internet. Oh well, on to the block list he went.

I had a feeling that he'd done this before. Thankfully this happened before I purchased. Exactly why customer service is always #1 when I purchase something. I don't think I've ever encountered terrible CS like this before. I literally had the same experience.

Had a feeling he's done this before? Really? Asking a customer about his name now is such a bad thing that requires a public post on a forum?

Anyone would've done the same as no company has the time to sit there and answer questions to people who are not serious potential customers. If you feel like you don't want to give some stranger on the internet your name, then maybe it's best for you to go to Best Buy or some local retail store to buy a laptop.

Everyone here knows the great reputation of HIDevolution and in particular Donald where he always treats customers with respect and wants the best for them. I cannot count the times and threads I've seen of people saying that they called him to buy a certain laptop and he actually talked them into buying something a bit cheaper because it matches with their needs and saving them money.

HIDevolution has a great reputation on these forums of their superb customer service, build quality, myriad of options to customize laptops and special mods to cater to enthusiasts. It's a shame you made such a drama out of this where you could have easily handled it in a more mature manner and if you were serious, simply given him your name or email he probably just wanted to create an account for you to make it easier to build your laptop and keep it in your cart for when the time that you are ready to purchase. I certainly wouldn't be answering questions to random strangers and wasting my time as well if I were in his shoes.

Again, it is NOT allowed to post private conversations or emails as per the Forum Rules [IMG]

It does require it when the service is terrible and you're sharing an experience so others on the site are aware. Yes I don't just dole out my FIRST AND LAST NAME PLUS EMAIL when BROWSING a purchase site. I don't remember Gentech, Xotic, asking for this so yeah. I'm sure Hidevolution went above and beyond at the beginning like any company would to build their reputation. Just as they have great reviews, they also have less than stellar reviews like any company. Well Phoenix. I don't really trust your opinion of Hidevolution now. Thankfully I had this terrible experience and now am aware. I know you go around praising them on these forums and I have pretty strong feeling you have incentive to do so. I'm sure they offer you special service seeing as you're a well respected member on these forums. I definitely trust you on anything software or hardware related, but don't think you should go around defending a company without seeing the conversation. Hmmm I do wonder why posting my inbox is NOT ALLOWED. Maybe because it would actually shed light on how terrible their customer service is. I still stand behind my claim and would be happy to PM you the messages, maybe that'll help lift the Hidevolution is "all great" perception

Lol I apologize. I mixed you up with Mr Fox. That was an honest mistake. Glad you avoided the rest of the reply. It seems like GIFS are your only method of communication. Your Hidevolution logo is showing. Do you even know what that GIF is from? Probably not seeing as it wouldn't make sense if you did. Educate yourself on James Spader while you're at it.

If you had an issue with HIDEvolution, fine, detail it and share your experiences in a constructive manner. Even better if you tag Donald and discuss it with him too, but posting private conversations and attacking other forum members is rather childish and unconstructive.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm pretty sure it was in a constructive manner. I'm just pointing out his GIF makes no sense if he actually knew where it originated from. He obviously didn't refute that. Donald has already seen this thread and it was a basic conversation. I wanted others to be aware. I'm glad you see it that way :)
