I started shopping around for a workhorse laptop for gaming, CAD, FEA, CFD, and rendering about a year and a half ago, or around when Skylake launched. I was about to pull the trigger on a MSI during Black Friday until I started doing more in-depth research.

I was originally going to get the P755DM1-G, but had trouble sourcing it in the US. HIDevolution said they were able to get it and I was about to pull the trigger, but...the new Clevos were announced followed up by the Pascal release. I was originally waiting out for the FHD displays to get G-sync certified, but it sounds like that's going to be awhile so I went for the 3K. I should be taking delivery of the barebones laptop this afternoon and then building it tonight! Details of the build are in the signature.

    10/27/16 - Ordered

    11/3/16 - Pre-Production

Whoa...I must've posted this before I had my morning tea...

    I ordered the P775DM3-G....not the P755DM-3... o_O

I installed the SSD, CPU, and RAM last night along with Win10. I read in the P775DM3 and P870DM2/3 threads that in order for 3000mhz memory to be recognized, the memory profile must be set to XMP1 or XMP2. I tried both and the laptop would not boot. I reset the BIOS by removing the battery and power cord and disconnected the CMOS battery for 30 seconds. Is there a step that I missed?

As for the 3K screen, I can see the lines if I'm within 10" of the screen, but they are not noticeable from further away. Text is slightly fuzzy at 125% scaling, but looks fine at 150%. Not a deal breaker for me.

I reported your initial post to have the title corrected.

I will receive my laptop tomorrow to advice you about the RAM profile. On my current P870DM-G, I have to set it to XMP Profile 2 to have it run @ 3000 MHz not sure why you can't boot.

@Prema any comments on this bro?

The RAM slots under the system are the Master slots, use those if only 2 sticks are present. The slots under the keyboard are the slave slots.

Yup, I got them both installed in the master slots. It's currently running fine under the default ram setup. I didn't get a chance to check what speed they're running at in HWMontior.

@Prema why do you think he can't boot under XMP Profile 1 or 2? Is the P775DM3 not compatible with 3000 MHz. RAM?

Last I recall is that HIDevolution were only successful with that RAM on the P870DM but not the P775DM as the latter could only run 2666 MHz. RAM Max but his laptop is the newer P775DM3 so I'm not sure if it's still the case.

It should take the 3000mhz. From Clevo's website for the P775DM3:

    • Dual channel DDR4
    • Four 260 pins SODIMM sockets, support DDR4 2133/2400 MHz
(Real operation frequency depends on processor)
    • Expandable memory from 8GB to 64GB, depends on 4GB/8GB/16GB SODIMM module
    • Support XMP 2666/3000 MHz (XMP support depends on processor and works in dual channel)

I'm running the 6700K. I'll double check HWMonitor when I get home tonight. It should show me the speed it is running at right?

yes please do and let us know. HWiNFO should show you a speed of 1500 MHz. which means 3000 MHz. effectively

Please load a screenshot of HWInfo main screen. Current timing, memory and cpu clocks are right there. Did you set XMP1 or XMP2 in the bios?

So in the Memory Modules section, doe it just show what's installed? Under memory it shows the current performance, so 2X1200 = 2400mhz?. Is that correct?

This is under the default profile. When I set it to XMP1 or XMP2 and let it sit for 10-15 mins, the system wont boot. Just a black screen.

Put in your old RAM back in and boot up. Go into the BIOS and be sure it is set to the default memory profile. Save and exit the BIOS, let it load Windows and the power off. Insert one stick of the new RAM into DIMM slot #0 (first slot) and let it boot from the default memory profile. It will be 2400MHz. Let it go to the Windows desktop, then shut down. Power up (still with one stick) enter the BIOS and set XMP1. Once it powers up and boots to the desktop, confirm it is running 3000 (1500*2). Shut down Windows and install the other module in slot #1. You should have slot #0 and #1 populated under the bottom cover. Power up and everything should be fine. If you are using 4 sticks of RAM you can use the slots under the keyboard. If only using two sticks of RAM those slots should be left empty.

So tried Mr. Fox's method of starting it off with 1 stick with no luck. Neither stick would boot in XMP1 when inserted by themselves. Could it be faulty RAM?

Unfortunately, I only have the 2X8Gb sticks of g.skill 3000mhz handy.

Do the G.SKILL 3000 sticks boot with the default 2400 memory profile (not XMP)?

Try setting the timings manually with a single stick. They should be listed in the memory page for you to set.

I think you have a problem with your RAM bro. I just got my laptop a few hours ago

I set the RAM to XMP Profile 2 and it's working at 3000 MHz with no issues and it booted right away:

The systems a little bit different IMO. That could also be the reason.

Currently running the custom profile with the values of XMP1. I also tried XMP2 values. Booted fine, but still running at 2400mhz on both settings.

Before I set the custom values, I ran 1 stick in the top slot under the bottom cover. Booted up fine in 2400mhz. I changed to XMP1 and I was able to boot to 3000mhz! I put the second stick in the bottom slot and no boot. Had to reset the BIOS again. I ordered up 2 more sticks of 8GB g.skill 3000mhz to test with for a total of 32GB.

I still have a feeling that you have bad sticks like @Mr. Fox

I have one of the first badges of the 3000 MHz 64GB Kits and I have 0 errors with em even with a TM5 memory test

The part number on the old sticks that you and I purchased from HIDevolution are a different part number that those I am having trouble with now. I am comparing them to the photo I took of the RAM you and I purchased and it is not the same RAM.

I ran a memtest and came up with 26 errors in 1 pass. The new sticks should arrive tomorrow. We'll see how they fare. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

I think I am going to be able to get my old Kingston HyperX Impact to work with XMP 3000 @ 1.300V while we get this G.SKILL mess worked out. I imported the CL18 3000 profile modded to 1.300V from the defective G.SKILL onto one stick of the Kingston and it tested fine. I'm flashing the other three sticks now to see if all four of them work at 3000.

So the new RAM showed up today. I took the old ram out and put in 1 stick of the new. Booted up in XMP1 and confirmed it was running at 3000mhz. I shutdown and then installed the next new stick. Turned it on and no boot. I reset the BIOS and changed to XMP2...still no boot. So I decided to put all 4 sticks in, reset the BIOS, and all 4 booted up in 2400mhz. I changed to XMP1 and no boot. I changed to XMP2 and I was able to boot in 3000mhz! Not sure whats going on with the ram and slots. I'll see if I can put the ram through memtest's paces. Thanks for the help everyone!
