First off, just want to say what an amazing community there is here at NotebookReview.com. I have lurked for some time now browsing various threads and searching for answers when so called "techs" could not give them to me. I am personal friends with one of your major contributors Mobius 1 and i just want to say thanks for shedding some light on the many issues that seem to plague our hobbies.

I am actually immigrating from the Alienware world. I was a long time fan of them and have purchased multiple systems dating back to when Alienware was independent. They have fallen out of favor though, and I fear they will never regain my trust or my business. Dell in my opinion is just another example of a company (and I'll quote [email protected] on this one) "that got too big, and now relies on past experience that just isn't there."

Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself and say what a wonderful experience I had purchasing my new HI-EVOC P650RS-G from HIDevolution. [email protected] was my main contact and I have to say he is the straightest shooter I have ever had the pleasure of speaking to within the PC sales world. Yeah i am sure he will. HIDevo has had great reviews, so i am confident they will deliver great service.

Question: when Prema bios is available for this model will i be able to disable hyper threading, for battery extending purposes.

The Prema bios mod seems to finally be out for the P870 series machines. That means we should be sooner on the list. I've been waiting since like October... So get in line lol.

As for battery extension make sure your on MSHybrid mode and set your settings to power saver etc... You may already know all that.

Nice config! I'm assuming your installing your own ssd. That's the only must I see. Otherwise nearly identical to my specs in my signature spoiler.

 

Why did you pay for an installation flash drive when you didn't order an operating system?

You can tell the rep what kind of you will be using. Its useful for when you want to install your own SSD, and dont want to hunt down drivers and such. Install, update and stick in the OS code. Bam, done.

 

If you're using Windows 10, the only drivers you'll really need to update are for your GPU(s) and the Airplane Mode unit (for some reason). Everything else comes baked into a base install of the OS. But whatever you're most comfortable doing is what you should go with.

In my humble, the P6XXRS and newer HS models are about the best bang-for-the-buck gaming notebooks out there at the moment especially for those who don't mind getting their hands dirty, so to speak, working on the inside. Despite having a soldered CPU and GPU, everything else is easy to access and upgrade. It's pretty impressive that there were able to get 4 RAM slots, 2 M.2 slots, and 2 2.5-inch drive bays into a relatively compact form factor.

 

Yeah I'm very surprised on the storage slots they were able to cram into this thing. I've been reading decent things about its thermal capabilities as well.

Question: does this unit come with an unlocked VBIOS and if so what speed can I achieve? Also can the voltage be increased?

 

You'll need to wait for the Prema BIOS to become available. No telling when it will be ready at this point.

Don't agree there, the built in drivers in Windows are just for basic functionality, take for example, the Touchpad Driver, if you don't install the Clevo/Synaptics Touchpad driver, you won't have any options to play with for gesture control and whatnot, same goes for Audio, all Windows Drivers are just basic. It's best to stick to the manufacturers' official drivers for smooth operation.

No offense meant but people who just use the drivers with Windows are just too lazy to install a few drivers / reboot after each driver installation.

This is not how you get a perfectly working system

 

The Prema BIOS/VBIOS will be available for your system soon. Then HIDevolution will flash them for you remotely:

Benefits of Prema BIOS:

• Fixes the biggest issue with these Clevo laptops where they would throttle the CPU as low as 2.5 GHz the moment both the CPU & GPU are under load due to current issues with the Clevo Stock BIOS/EC Firmware.
• The ability to disable other drives connected to your system without physically removing them from your laptop, this comes in handy when installing Windows as you never want to have more than one drive connected at the time you are installing Windows otherwise the Windows setup will place the boot files on the 2nd drive it sees which hurts performance and makes it a headache when creating system images or restoring since the boot files are not on the main drive.
• The ability to overclock, increase Turbo Power Limits and System IA/Core Current Limits
• The ability to enable Intel Speed Shift Technology (it is disabled in the stock BIOS)
• The ability to run RAM with speeds higher than the standard 2133 MHz. I am not talking about overclocking here, I am talking about actual RAM sticks that are rated to run at 2800 MHz for example like the G.Skill 64GB 2800 MHz kit I have. With the stock BIOS, they will not run above 2400 MHz. In the case of the P870DM3, the stock BIOS now supports up to 2666 MHz. I believe but not more, so the Prema BIOS is a must again
• Fixes the instability with the G.Skill 3000 MHz. RAM using XMP Profile 1 with timings of 16-18-18-18 where in the stock BIOS you would have constant crashes or not be able to boot altogether so you’re forced to use XMP Profile 2 which is slower with 18-18-18-18 timings.
• The ability to enable CSM for those who want to install other OSes like Windows 7
• The ability to undervolt the CPU as the stock voltage is way too high which causes the CPU to overheat much quicker and thus throttle under load.
• The ability to enable or disable CPU AES instructions or Virtualization
• The ability to disable hibernation from the BIOS
• Sets the default keyboard lights from blue to white which suits more tastes

That's not true at all. The driver from Windows Update for the touchpad and audio are the exact same versions that are downloadable from Clevo. Now, I don't like how the touchpad control are integrated into Windows 10 settings, rather than being its own "program" that you launch from the classic control panel, but gesture support is there. From the audio driver, I get the Realtek control panel icon in the system tray, just as if I would have installed it on my own. Even the WU NVIDIA driver gives you the control panel just like you would have if you installed it yourself. It doesn't include GeForce Experience, but you can add it yourself.

 

Thanks for the awesome replies. About the drivers, i'm not too worried. I have restored everything from alienware m9700s, Alienware M15x R1(lightbar), M14X R2, all the way to current A13 R3's. Hunting drivers is a paint in the ass but doable. im sure ill find the right ones.

Donald told me the Guy who does these bios unlocks will be working on our models shortly, but does anyone have an idea on timeline?

 

He just finished the P870DM2/3 and P770DM2/3 so I am guessing that your model should be next. Timeframe? I can't tell but it shouldn't be long!

Question, im looking for a decent NVME M2 drive at 512 capacity. I know samsung makes a 300$ but that price i can get two standard M2 drives. Do you by chance know of any decent manufactures for NVME that don'd require a sacrifice to the central banker gods?

indeed I gave him a price much lower than what it retails for and he doesn't need to wait for shipping since it's already with HIDevolution as they removed it from your taptop, the SSD is in mint condition as you know I take care of my items (perfection OCD)

 

Overall a great deal. Its amazing that with these forums we can stumble into such a great opportunity. The machine has not even left the assembly bench and we can already set something like this up.

ZERO regrets on the purchase and to be honest i feel stupid for not pulling the trigger earlier.

 

talk about co-incidence man, if you asked me to sell the SSD yesterday I would've said no as the laptop was supposed to be sold as a full package. but I made an exception as @bloodhawk is my good friend to sell it barebone and was wondering where the heck would I sell those SSDs now since they are with HIDevolution now and baam! you show up and are the perfect buyer since there is no wasted time on shipping, the SSD is with them and saves you some money as it's in brand new condition

 

LOL. Yeah lets see how soon they take the parts and stuff out. I told them not to waste **** tons of thermal paste on the GPU's since i will be over hauling the whole thing as it is. But as of yesterday, it was in "Pre-Production" of sorts
But really glad it worked out for the both of us.

We don't put them on, the manufacturer does. You can simply peel off any or all of them.
