Top of the afternoon guys, just got a quickie question. I know that Sager does not check or guarantee that the screen will be perfect w/o any dead pixels when they ship it out to the customer the first time. I know the 30 day warranty, Sager will replace free of charge the lcd display even with a single or more dead pixel on the display and Sager even covers 3-day 2 way shipping.

Now here is the confusion, when a customer returns it back to Sager for RMA, will Sager check and guarantee that the new lcd they are putting on doesn't have any problems at all? Or is it going to be the same way when they first custom build your Sager just slapping on another newer screen and then shipping it out? Because if that's the case then it'll be a lot of wasted time going back n forth until you get one w/o any problems.

If you get the guarantee the first screen will be visually inspected by 4 techs and a software program will be ran on it which is designed to check for dead pixels. Doing that will be the best possible way to avoid it shipping with any dead pixels. If during the first 30 days a dead pixel does develop then they will repair it for you. They will also check the new screen the same way. The guarantee is good for 30 days regardless of how many screens you may go through.

Hi Hutsady, so what you're saying is that if we buy the $35 dollar 30 day LCD guarantee from any of the above reseller I mentioned, SAGER will thoroughly test and check it before shipping it out? So the people in the past or people that buys SAGER laptops without the $35 30day guarantee will get their laptops without SAGER checking the display out properly??

I'm assuming it's something the retailers do, not Sager.
    Just a guess though.

If you do not get it they do not check it as much. There is a term in the LCD industry called "within tolerance" which basically means if a computer does have under that set amount they will send it anyway. Sager does require 5 total or one in the middle to consider it a bad panel, which is one of the best policies out there. If they are building a computer and notice several dead pixels which go beyond the tolerance level that screen will be replaced before the computer ships out.

For $35 it's a steal and definitely not something you should cheap out on.

Also, can't remember where I heard this from, but apparently if you buy the guarantee, there's a higher chance you'll receive a Class I LCD panel. No dead pixels aside, I suspect that these Class I panels are built to much higher tolerances -- the AUO B173HW01 v4 panel I have in my P370SM can be overclocked to a ridiculous 113 Hz refresh rate even though it's "only" rated for 60 Hz. No doubt I definitely got extremely lucky with this panel, but I speculate that part of it may be due to it being a Class I panel (or perhaps it's just my wishful thinking :D)

Just a note to say that this 30 Day No Dead Pixel Warranty that this thread is about is now $25. It was lowered a couple of days ago.... :)

A lot of people will tell you to skip the dead pixel warranty. As someone who ordered direct through sager, didn't get it, and have exactly 1 dead pixel, I urge you to get it. It's not that expensive, and while you can feel that it should be free (you wouldn't pay for a new car with a scratch, unless previously agreed upon), I would go ahead and get it.

Is it just me or does this warranty have terrible optics? If I were buying one of these machines and I didn't pay for the warranty, I would suspect that there would be a greater than random chance that I would get a panel with dead pixels. After all, what's going to happen with all the rejected panels that are still "within tolerance?"

That definitely is a possible side effect.

Wow Interesting thread, does overclocking void the warranty? (Not that I have any clue how to do this LOL)
Seriously if you pay the $25, then develop a bad pixel at day 20, then does the 30 day period kick in again, or are you left with the remaining 10 days for warranty? TIA , Josea

    Thanks Hutsady

Overclocking will not void the warranty but any damaged caused by an improper overclock is not covered.
The 30 days is from the day it ships, it doesn't start over unfortunately.

Yes Sager will have 4 techs visually inspect the screen as well as running software made to specifically find them. If one develops within the first 30 days Sager will replace the screen for you.
