Holy crap. This thing looks epic. The only question I have is if the msata will be user replaceable.

I will be waiting for the Broadwell refresh and then I will be definitely getting this beast. It is simply amazing but at a premium price. :)

OK, now I'm willing to dive back in. A new display and the updated GPU/CPU may make the difference.

    Hi guys,

Just saw the news on the new 2014 razor blade. 3200x1800 touch screen looks awesome! (I have the Yoga 2 Pro now). I am thinking about selling the Yoga 2 Pro and get the new razor blade when it's out.

My question is, will we be able to put a second SSD into the new razor blade? If not, are we able to upgrade the stock SSD with a normal 2.5 SSD?

Since the new razor blade is not out yet, I realize it might be impossible to say for certain now.

But any educated guess is welcomed!

This is the only thing holding me from preordering it. Non-upgradable SSD is a deal breaker for me.

    Thanks!

The 2013 Blade 14 had two mSATA slots, not sure if this one will. Time will tell.

And no sign of UK availability still. *cries*

The 650M is getting really long in the tooth now. Looks like I'll be stuck with the GS60 Ghost Pro with 860M.

may keep the Aorus X7 as well, use it at home. The Blade will go with me EVERYWHERE. What sold me on the Blade 14:

-build quality, every Razer notebook I've owned (Blade, Blade Pro, Blade 14, Edge Pro) has been top-notch.
-tech support (they are the best in the biz)
-IZGO display. I found the original 900p display to be perfectly fine, so a 250% contrast ratio bump will be great
    -battery life.
-870M is crazy fast (was expecting an 860M, but this company is "For Gamers. By Gamers," remember?

Now if Razer would pump out an Edge 2014 with an 850M I'd be in gaming nirvana.

love how they took the weakest point of the laptop last year (the screen) and have made it one of the strongest selling points... Guess who listens to customer feedback? And yeah, Min-Liang Tan personally keeps up in notebookreveiw forums wanting feedback from laptop enthusiasts.

Man the new 14" Edge looks fantastic now I just hope it can handle the thermals of the 870M if the TDP is higher than the last GPU (765M).

    I wants it. ._,
The 14 looks incredible. I don't know how well the 870m will perform at 3200x1800, but that screen is going to look gorgeous. I would've been happy had the resolution stayed the same, with the panel going from TN to IPS, but wow. Hope the laptop doesn't get too hot, being that thin and that powerful. Shame I can't afford it. I've never wanted a laptop so badly. ;p

    It does look pretty amazing.

I'm considering it for work as well as playing games.

Question to those who may know... it is a 3200x1800 display and I'd often want to use it for business type tools (ssh command line stuff and programming IDE tools, etc), I would need to adjust Windows DPI setting else it would be way to small of font. Is that correct?

With that in mind, what if I also had it connected to an external 2560x1440 display? In Windows 8.1 is it possible to have DPI settings for each individual display? In other words, I wouldn't want to change the DPI on the laptop display to be at 200% if that will force the 2560x1440 display to also be at 200%.

Else, I may have to go with a normal 1920x1080p res laptop for that reason.

But I really really dig this little powerhouse.

I'm thinking of getting the new Razer Blade, but does any one know the battery lifespan on these notebooks or if Razer replaces the battery for you? It would suck if you dump 2.4k on something only to have it stuck to the wall after a year of usage.

I was under the impression that the 870 and 880m were Kepler rebrands and the 860m is the maxwell card. Any truth to this?

That does seem to be what everyone's saying.. Which means 870m might run hotter than the 765m, that could be a real problem

Wow, maybe I can finally ditch my 6 year old Dell laptop for this 14" beast. I was about to pull the trigger and pre-order it, but I think I'll wait for more in-depth reviews. I'd like to see what the battery life is like with normal non-gaming use, and of course gaming benchmarks (specifically BF4 and Titanfall).

Pre-order price in Australia for the Razer Blade 128Gb SSD version is AU$3,199 which is roughly US$2,900.

This is US$700 above US pricing which is a total rip-off, even factoring in shipping costs & local taxes - I estimate these at US$400. The extra US$300 either represents the cost of an Australian power cord (which costs $10) or pure profit (am I too cynical?).

Razer CEO, please take note that Australians are sick of unjustified higher prices!

Damn. I knew they were going to improve the 14" blade with a refresh, but I didn't realize it would be such a significant improvement. I was considering buying a used 14" blade because I'm sure they'll be much cheaper, but I don't know if I can resist this new model.

I am now going to cancel my zenbook infinity and order this... just waiting for student discount code to come in today :D

Wallets going to cry.... bought new components for my desktop as well yesterday.... GTX 780 Ti and 4770k.... :(

:p Honestly, its still not quite there yet. Should switch to a displayport over hdmi. Personal gripe with my Blade is also the speakers are subpar. They sound like cell phone speakers. Going to be interested with replacing my first gen blade with the third. Can't wait to see how tech changes within the next year.

I can appreciate you wanting DP connection but I for one am glad they use HDMI. All of my devices are HDMI, all of my cables are HDMI. I hate it when they change connections just for the sake of changing it. I have adapters for the few times I've needed to connect to a DP device.

Curious, as I have no idea if this is actually true, but I have read that Australian laws require longer warranties from manufacturers on consumer products? IE, over on the Microsoft Surface forums I frequent, it is said the Australian's get an extra free year of warranty coverage from Microsoft as required by local rules. Here in the US we only get one year of warranty and must pay extra for longer coverage.

Just a thought as to another cost of doing business that might factor in if this is true.

Really fighting the urge to pull the trigger on this thing... if it was Maxwell I'd have already done it!

Since we already have a similar thread title for the 2013 model, can we update the title of this thread to something like: " 2014 Razer Blade 14 w/ GTX 870M, 3200x1800 IGZO IPS" ? This will catch people's attention when they browse through the threads. :)

I have no experience with Microsoft's Surface but the longer warranty issue relates to phones bought on a 2 year or longer contract while the manufacturer provides a 1 year warranty. The consumer law here protects the customer on a contract that is longer than the warranty in the event that the phone stops working. This would not apply to laptops and, especially, software which are 2 examples of IT items sold at a price above other countries because Australian consumers are a small market. Unashamed daylight robbery.

I've been a Blade owner for a few months now and before I ordered I was skeptical about the 2013 model's display. Sooo glad I decided to get my blade, but now I think I need to sell it so I can get this new Blade. The specs on this thing is epic! The screen and GPU is insane!.....Razer definitely listened to their customers feedback, and that my friends is a true company that values its customers.

My only question now is.....do I go for the 256 gb or spend the extra for the 512gb.....decisions, decisions :nah:

Don't go with either, get the 128GB and upgrade it yourself.

I love the look of this machine. I've always been meaning to downgrade to a smaller laptop but never found a good one. This looks good, shame I can't get it in the UK. I may need someone to help me out here...

I've read on other forums that it's a big no no to upgrade it yourself due to the fact that you will void warranty if you open it up. Otherwise, if this were false I would do exactly what you recommend and upgrade it myself. An extra $200 for 256gb or an extra $500 for 512gb is a pretty steep price.

When I get it, I shan't be playing games at native but rather at 1600x900 because that res scales perfectly so it will be reasonably sharp and give a good boost to frame rates.

So one other feature that hasn't really been talked about much is the new Nvidia battery boost on the new 800 series chips. Razer claims that the blade will still maintain 6 hrs of battery life even with the high res display. My question on this is, are they taking the new Nvidia battery boost technology into consideration on the Blade's 6 hr batt life claim?

If Razer isn't counting the battery savings from Nvidia's new technology then have they gone with a larger capacity batt thus potentially going beyond the 6 hr batt life quote.

The 6hrs is for when websurfing or other low power tasks. The power saver won't help in that case.
