    Hi again all,

I'm having trouble playing Witcher 3 on my Razer Blade 2015 QHD+. The game starts with sound but all I see is a black screen. I managed to make it work once after uninstalled the latest GeForce experience upgrade meant for the Witcher, but that only worked once and hasn't since. I also went to the NVidia website and downloaded the latest driver from there.

Any suggestions? Basically I'm wondering if theres anything I can do besides waiting for a patch or update from either the game devs or Nvidia.

Has anyone been able to play Witcher 3 on a Razer Blade? Maybe its just me...

EDIT: Just tried to play WoW after not having touched it for a while and it had a black screen too! though for some reason I could still see the mouse cursor. WTH! I've been playing Witcher 1 and 2 without issue and they still work...

I have no issues with Witcher 3, aside from that I have to run it at 1920x1080 if I want a decent framerate. No black screen issues or anything with any games. Sounds like a setting somewhere is awry (or worse, a defect maybe?)

Please let us know if you solve this one.

Crap...so its just me huh? I chatted with NVidia support last night and tried a bunch of things but nothing helped so they escalated it to a Level 2 Technician and will get back to me. I really hope its not something that will require sending the Blade back... I just find it weird that my other games work fine, including Witcher 2 (if that means anything).

Anyway, thanks for your response. I'll follow up once I know more.

If it's any consolation, if one game works in 3d and another one doesn't, that doesn't exactly point to a hardware issue... Also, don't be surprised if they ask you to do a factory F9 restore to rule out software (if they haven't already).

I know Optimus isn't perfect (Optimus is the technology nvidia uses to switch between Intel GMA and nvidia discrete graphics).

I initially had issues with display scaling. The fix for me was to disable the touchscreen in the device manager. I would definitely try that to see if it changes anything.

I just gave disabling the touchscreen a shot but not luck either. I made sure Witcher 3 was using the Nvidia high performance processor in the NVidia control panel so I assume that would avoid issues with Optimus. I tried some other tweaks I found from other people that also had Witcher 3 related issues but also no luck. I get the distinct feeling that its just some stupid minor thing that's causing the issue, like me somehow having deleted something or accidently disabled something else, and the only problem is figuring out which one it is!

I decided to email Razer support too to see if they had any insight. Fortunately I already have the recovery usb at least so restoring wouldn't be the end of the world.

And yes, that is consoling! At least I can still play some other games. Gives me time to try a different path in Witcher 2 on Dark difficulty haha

@Kelevrav - I was doing a search for optimal graphics settings for Witcher3 on 2015 QHD, and found someone else with a solution for what you might be experiencing --

"Running a Razer Blade with a 970m Witcher 3 was hanging on startup when reshade was installed with the 64bit dll as dxgi.dll.

Renamed the dll to d3d11.dll and that seems to have fixed the issue and allows it to boot up. So far just verified that it's running using the monochrome setting but will check out more when I get home.

Hope this helps some folks." -- http://reshade.me/forum/troubleshooting/682-solved-fix-for-970m-and-witcher-3-hang-on-startup

Thanks for the tip though I cant find a file in the game folder with those names. I think reshade is some sort of texture upgrade pack, a sort of mod?

Well razer got back to me and suggested things I already tried and then also a full recovery. If that doesn't work I'd have to send it to them for replacement.

EDIT: just realized I haven't been posting from this account. Oops. I'm the same guy as OP!

Well, I did a factory recovery and the game works now. So...now what? I cant update drivers? Or should I be ok?

I updated mine without issue... I'd say go right ahead.

I did and all is well! I asked NVidia beforehand (though I didn't wait for their response...) and they said to only use the drivers that are on the razer support site (which are not up to date) as those are the ones they've tasted on the razer. Oh well!

I used a 2nd, 1080p screen for The Witcher 3 and used GeForce to optimize (set to high and ultra, good). Later, with those same settings still activated, I played on the laptop itself and decided to see how badly it would run on 4k resolution. The result? Not bad at all! Probably not close to 60fps (noob here, don't have anything to check actual framerates) but still perfectly playable! Everything was still set to ultra and stuff. Was that your experience too and you just opted for 1080p for a better framerate?
