What's the fan volume like on the Razer Blade 14" (1060 GPU/late 2016) when doing basic tasks?

I'm seriously considering getting one of these soon, but I'm curious how loud the fans are when I'm doing simple tasks like internet browsing and word processing. I'm fine with the fans working loudly during gaming (headphones block it), but if I'm just sitting at home or somewhere at school working on simple stuff I don't want it to be distracting. I am a person who tends to have lots of tabs and programs open at once, but so long as I'm not doing anything really intensive, what do you think I should expect?

    Thanks in advance!

There is a quiet fan profile in razer synapse which sets the fans to run near silent. Pretty much can use it all the time unless gaming. At least I do. Laptop stays slightly warmer but still comfortable to use.

That sounds good to me. Is Razer Synapse some in-house software they have onboard? Is it relatively easy to access? Thanks,

I have the model, with the latest EC/FW update and it will likely be the case that any new unit you get at this point is going to have this updated version, with updated fan curve. On initial release, idle fan speeds for <50C were set to a 20% spin, but due to throttling occurring under heavy loads, they bumped the fans up ... across the board unfortunately.

On the razer forums, there is a 32,000+ view thread where I've chimed in stating that for idle/low work loads, they have to set the fan profile back to where it was ... the near silent 20%. I have messed with various apps to force the fans down, where the temperature clearly remains stable, yet there are bugs which cause the screen to dim/brighten or the system to hibernate randomly. (Uninstalled!)

Now, this being said, if you lie it on a flat surface, I find it acceptable as is. Expose the fans underneath via stand, or not being covered and you will hear them. It's not terrible, but it would stand out in a meeting or quiet space unfortunately. We're talking, audible in a silent room from 6-8ft. away if you have normal hearing.

I should also add that as @Firebat246 mentioned, the quiet mode in Synapse really does do a great job. I've not tried any long term torture tests, but in short ones, and normal use I'm not seeing any throttling there and the noise I find to be good, given my expectations for this tiny machine. Noise development can be controlled to what is frankly nothing short of amazing in quiet mode + utilizing some sort of FPS limitation, or enabling V-Sync to keep you from going over 60FPS.

This is why this laptop is great, IMO. When you want mobility, use the laptop with frame limitations it's decent performance with moderate noise. When you want to turn up the juice, hook it into a Razer Core with a GTX1070 and you'll see a CPU @ 50C (because it now has two fans cooling it by itself), and the external GPU at 55C. Noise stays like it does at idle! Pretty nice combo for having all your work & play in one location.

Missed this. Yes. It pretty much has to run all the time if you don't want your keyboard back-lighting doing the default on/off/changing colors thing. As such, it just sits in your system tray. I see no reason ever to take it out of quiet mode the way I use it. Temps are fine and noise is great as I said with some kind of frame limitation or v-sync when gaming.

Out of curiosity, does the RB Stealth have this feature as well? Thanks!

Yes. I don't have one to speak to its fan noise, or options to control their speed in synapse, but it must certainly have it to control the keyboard lightning and other handy game related things.
