This thing is HOT (and not in the good way)

So my first impressions after owning this for all of 24 hours are this:

I love the laptop. Gaming at QHD+ is awesome!

The laptop runs HOT AS ALL HECK though. I was playing some Heroes of the Storm earlier and it was uncomfortable for my palms to rest on the laptop. The keys were hot enough to be uncomfortable. I will say when the fan hit full blast it wasn't annoying and the real "hot spots" got cool, really fast.

What can I do to alleviate this? Needing a notebook cooler defeats the purpose of having this as I got it for its slimness and I may as well go for the Alienware 15 which may be warm/hot as well but not remotely as much as this gets.

    Any ideas?

It's a thin and light Razer, they run hot. By design.

Make sure you have decent airflow around all sides, and that you're not closing the lid while gaming (if connecting to a monitor or TV). You can even try getting a cooling pad or propping the laptop up to give it more height off the surface it's on, this allows more air to circulate underneath. I know myself and a few others have seen lower temps when replacing the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU as well. It'll always run warm to hot when gaming though, it's so thin there's just no way around it given its design.

I have it sitting on a glass desk so it's definitely not being caused by insufficient airflow. I was thinking about re-pasting but that wouldn't help with the surface temperature. I haven't seen any reports of it being this hot. I have an IR temp gun so I will take temps later but it is above being bearable. All reviews I read said the keyboard stays relatively cool and the "hot spot" is the part of the laptop near the screen whereas this is heating up all around.

Hmmm. Where I rest my palms usually gets pretty hot, especially if I'm playing a graphics intensive game for more than 30 minutes, and at times the whole chassis will get pretty warm, but not to the point where I'd say it's uncomfortable to the touch. Does it get very hot right away, or only after an extended period of time?

That's pretty quick. I know mine definitely doesn't get so hot that fast, even before applying different thermal paste. Can you log the temps during a game to see how hot your CPU and GPU are getting?

So this refurb one I just got I've been testing out. The keyboard area doesn't get as hot as the last one did. Testing temps in Furmark produce the same temps. Not sure what the deal is. I can put my hand on the keys without it getting uncomfortable. In fact the left side of the keyboard stays cool the entire time. (guessing that's the CPU side)
