Thinking of grabbing my first Razer... Thoughts?

Hey guys, I've never owned a Razer Blade, but I'm seriously considering making the leap. I've got around $3500 to play with currently, and I love what I read about the build quality of the system.

The biggest things for me, when dropping $3500 for a laptop is

Performance

Fan Noise/Thermals

Build quality

With that said, is the Razer Blade Pro (2019) the way to go? If so, where would you all suggest buying from? It'd be great if I could get a Kryonaut repaste for the CPU and GPU, but not sure of anywhere that offers that.

I'm coming from an Asus RoG GL502VS, so a pretty thick 15", that's dimension wise, pretty similar to the 17" razer blade, just in a thinner profile.

Anyone have any thoughts on the RBP? Or any other suggestions? I'm going to go w/ a 2080 Max Q. Pretty easy to move to the 90W VBIOS?

 

Has any one had issue with thermal throttling at low temps ?

HID Evolution offers post factory modifications, i've heard good things about their LM Applications and warranty service.

The GL502VS is not a great laptop compared to the razerblade. My RB15 is an exceptional laptop. It's the best i've ever owned, and the ones with the 9750H in them should be even better (They can be undervolted to a greater degree and over much higher turbo boosts.)

I've never owned a RBP, especially not the new one, but all the reviewers i've read/watched sing high praises.

If you absolutely need a 17" laptop, the RB Pro is the way to go TBH. Can't think of anybody who is offering anything similar. Lots of thin n light 15" ... not too many 17" in this size category.


Edit: taking another look, it looks like Lisa at Mobiletech review got kind of a ****ty unit for thermals. If you get HID Evolution to apply LM, and you undervolt after you get it, you can expect maximum performance with minimal fan noise, almost certain of it.

 

So HID Evolution is a pretty good company to buy from overall? I read a post yesterday that was pretty critical of them, and the whole process , faulty unit. It's not that I "need" a 17" laptop either. I'm more than open to a 15", but I figured that the 17" was better in the thermal department. I'm "used" to the 15" laptop scene, but the new 17" due to the thinner screen bezels are pretty much the same size as this behemoth I've been carrying.

 

my biggest concern would be the RMA heard razer RMA is bad not sure how the RMA is if you buy from hid

 

I just bought a Razer Blade Pro 2019 from Amazon. I figure at least I know that Amazon will do me right in the event that I'm not fully satisfied with it. I guess other than the tweaking of the computer, HID wasn't doing "that" much more anyway for the cost associated. Seems as if the thermals are ok for the most part anyway, so we'll see how it goes!

 

Yes they can be a headache to deal with unfortunately. There is some better support on their website so you can actually talk to someone that knows how to help you. Talking to them by chat is really like playing russian roulette.

My recommendation is buy from a reliable reseller. Microsoft store and Amazon have 30 return periods compared to the 14 days if ypu buy directly from Razer. Plus if you're a student or in the miltary the Microsoft store will offer you a discount.

 

Razer thermal paste tends to be fairly good and Kryonaut isnt the lognest lasting paste (it degrades at 80c). The chassis quality of Razer laptops are on the outside pretty much excellent. But some models such as the Stealth models have issues with battery bloat after some time for a fair share of the users thanks to poor battery quality. The first generation R15s had a lot of problems with failing webcams. Still saw one case appear on the 2019 models. RB17pro is still too new to find flaws for.

 

Thermals seem pretty awful across the board with these super thin "desktop replacements" - I wouldn't read too much into that ...
