Thank you MSI for helping justify to potential customers why RazerBlade's price-point is soo high......

    Quality!

We have all seen the NUMEROUS threads and posts about people complaining about both the Razerblade & Razerblade pro's price-point. However nobody ever disputed the fact that their is a market for a thin gaming laptop. So the first of the Razerblade knock-off's have begun with the MSI GS70 17' gaming laptop.

Just as everybody had always said slap together a 17 inch laptop using the same internals as Razer ditch the tacky Switch blade UI and price it for $1400-1600.

Well MSI listened and did just that and the feedback is in:

    • Laptop runs much noisier than the Razer Blade pro, with almost constant fan noise!
      [*]
[*]Laptop runs MUCH warmer than the Razer Blade pro, with serious concerns noted about over-heating during long gaming sessions.
      [*]
[*]Gaming on the battery results in severe performance drops, and lasts only a fraction than that of it's counterpart "Razer Blade Pro"
      [*]
[*]Better keyboard than the Razer, with no Switch Blade UI which for many is a positive.

Moral of the story, yes folks having a machine engineered as amazing as the Razerblade or Macbook pro does cost $$$ and is definitely worth it in the end. Some of the issues plaguing the MSI GS70 are deal breakers for me.

On my extremely small Razer Blade 14' I can have almost 4 DOTA2 matches all on battery life with no drop in performance "Dota2 match = 25-45 min" . Also even my Razer Blade R2 didn't have any of the issues plaguing the MSI GS70.

There has been soo much talk about Razer Blade 14's screen, or Razer Blade Pro's price... At the end of the day we all need to realize is Razer has taken the most important electronic device many of us have and transform it into something powerful and wonderfully portable.

Remember us dorks are always ahead of a major technology revolution and this truly is. Gaming consoles have no hope with the direction I think this trend will go....

I never liked MSI with their cheap build quality and overly flashy glossy/plasticky designs.

But I don't agree with the biitching of not being able to game while on battery. If you are going to properly play a game that requires very good cpu/gpu with the proper use of a flat surface and a mouse, then you need to be plugged in anyway. I mean who the hell games while on battery using the touchpad and even if you brought your mouse with you, who would want to game while on battery when there is so much power being used that can degrade the battery performance and the laptop performance overtime.

There's a reason why Alienware, Asus, MSI and Clevo throttles performance while on battery. If that is what Razer is proud of then good for them but i'd rather game while plugged in and it's not like it's some kind of innovation that Razer invented with this being able to game in max performance while on battery, hell I had an m11x r1 that was able to do this too.

Now while on battery, I know that Razer 14 gave this laptop very good battery life of around 5-7hours (considering the tn panel does not burn up that much battery life compared to IPS/AHVA/PLS panels found on W230ST/AW14) so that is very good for doing productivity work and web browsing while on battery and even throw in some basic gaming that does not require the max performance use of a dedicated gpu.

    Huh ???

I game on the battery all the time :

*Waiting in the airport for a flight with no Plugin nearby*

*Gaming in bed for a hour or so before I pass out*

*Gaming on the airplane when no plugin is available*

*Gaming while I wait for my kids at a dentist or doctors appointment*

*Gaming on the battery for a hour or so at the campground outside at night*

How do I game on the go ??

    1) I can play Shogun 2 & Civilization using the touchpad no problem

    2) I game on 3d shooters either using my razer orochi mouse which gives me full range of motion on the razerblades palm rest or my wireless xbox 360 controller.

What you need to realize is Razer has made a laptop so portable that yes gaming with great performance on the battery is an amazing feature!

P.S in future posts try not to make an opinion and state it as fact. "If you are going to properly play a game that requires very good cpu/gpu with the proper use of a flat surface and a mouse, then you need to be plugged in anyway". I game playing Dota2 in competitive matches with my wireless orochi and my blade on my lap not plugged in..... This goes for starcraft 2 games also... and planetside 2....

I gamed on battery by accident this morning on my Blade 14... Didn't notice until I went to pack everything up and "oh, the power wasn't plugged in". Fooled me, Skyrim Ultra 100+ mods!

Thanks Nick11; having just ordered the Razor 14” yesterday this makes me feel even better about the purchase.

I really cannot agree with you Colpolite, I game on battery all the time.

There is another word for that my friend, it’s called a Desktop...

I think people have never even seen such a feature that they immediately discount it as weird, unusual and therefore bash said feature. It IS an innovative feature and I'm sure that Min (who has videos of himself playing games on long road trips) and his team engineers know how to handle the battery life and preservation while gaming on battery.

PS. Blade is awesome for gaming in the car. Hands down.

Attention to detail as well. Single combo mic/audio jack versus three separate audio jacks. I can't speak for the rest of you, but that alone was a big selling point for me. Just convenient.

Real question on my mind is was MSI thinking with the number of ports and the layout of the ports on that thing, more the layout than the number. I mean what right handed person (and most left as well) wants crap plugged in (especially the power supply) on the right side of the laptop (I'll excuse the card reader here)? Three video outputs?! 4 USB 3.0 is nice I can let that slide. I can even let the spdif audio slide as I can see a few cases where it could be useful but I would much rather have the consolidated head/mic combo jack.

Another issue I have with the MSI model, I want the letters on my keys to light up... not in between the keys and the entire room.

    Just my 2 cents.
