A skin/wrap for top/bottom and around screen and keyboard will help keep it looking nice and new underneath. Not many zipper neoprene cases out there that fit but I found a 13" MBP one to fit good (and tight). I have posts on both somewhere on the forums. I can find links to both if you have any interest.

Other than that my 2013 14" was solid for the short time I had it. Never overheated or locked up. I had great luck with Bluetooth and the wireless n. I only used it laying flat on a desk, no additional cooling or fancy stands.

Don't put laptops on soft surfaces, intake is on the bottom so make sure air can go in freely. -buy a notebook cooler.

It's not a tank, don't drop it. Don't drink or eat food near it.

    Buy virus scanner like nod32.

Don't download crap you don't know.

Use a laptop backpack to carry them for long distances.

    Backup important documents somewhere.

Be prepared for repairs, it'll eventually happen.
